Great tutorial! I would have never thought of making the coil a separate piece.
This is really so cool. I had bought a ton of ear wires when I first started getting into making jewelry, but I hadn’t known it was possible to make them yourself. One day I’ll play around with it, but until then, I enjoy watching you! Thank you for sharing! 💜
I think this is rhe first of your videos that I've watched. So easy to follow. Thank you
Thanks so much Joy. I post every Tuesday and Saturday and do Livestreams every Wednesday at 1pm EST. Please come back often and don't hesitate to make special requests for tutorials!
Thanks so much for the tip@ Heather! Hope you are well! Much 💚
Heather, one of the things that I have realized is that I can watch six tutorials on the same subject, then watch yours and see that you add an elegance and refinement to your design that others do not.
Thank you JoAnn for your thoughtful comment. I really appreciate it. :)
Wow. That's so cool.. I make a very simple ones with the headpins.. definitely gonna try these.. thank you 😊
Awesome Neel. Are the headpins silver? I only have generic metal ones. Can't wait to see what you create!
@@HeatherBoydWire no they are not silver.. they are aluminum I think.. need to buy some silver ones asap
Didn't really know that it could be so simple .... Thanks for this video... 👍👍👍
Cool I like these. I made some but your pattern works good. I'm learning a lot from you.
Nice!
You're the best you helped me thanks for your help and also you remind me of my grandma she is in my hometown and I can't meet her because of what is going on ,bye
Wow! I never thought to add a colored bead to my earring hook! That is such an adorable addition! Great tip, Heather! Thank you!
Ty I’ve been trying to find a video to teach me how to make my own simple type.Ty I’ll let you know how my turned out! Great videos .ty ,Robyn from So Cal
So easy to follow, thank you, Heather, you are so kind as to share this. x
Yes good
Fantastic thank you for sharing. Now I know what to do whenever I run out of fish hooks for my earrings.
@@user-dt4eh1vp5v Personally I wouldn't put copper wire in my ear. Surgical steel and sterling or Argentium silver are hypo-allergenic
We can use silver steel wire (or) 20 gauge wire for hooks
Yes, sterling or Argentium silver or surgical steel are all good! 20 gauge is perfect.
Nicely done Heather! Close up and simple directions!
I thought, however, that metal wire needs to be hardened. Am I wrong?
Each time I try to make jewelry I get set back with all the steps (& equipment) I think I don't know. Some jewelers show having to use a hammer and block. I'm just afraid to put my "shingle" out and find out I'm making shoddy/unprofessional pieces. Oh, and I went with brass wire, findings, etc. (I think the brass wire is actually copper with a plating.)
Thank you. You can work harden the wire with a mallet if your wire is soft. I generally use half hard Argentium wire to make my own earring hooks and they are fine. Good luck Heather.
Its very nice...............Can we use silver craft wire in it please tell me
I wouldn't use craft wire to go in your ear. I use stainless/surgical steel or Argentium or sterling silver.
Love this video! I want to make earhooks in gold color. Is there a "hypoallergenic" wire i can use?
You can use gold or niobium is hyper-allergenic. I will be experimenting with wires as I also have sensitive ears www.creatingunkamen.com/en-ca/products/niobium-wire-hypoallergenic-you-pick-23175
Thank u iv gone all over looking for hooks and can't find locally will need to try out this one looks easy ...what is the type of wire u used
I use 20 or 22 g half hard Argentium or sterling silver wire for the hooks. You need something that is hyperallergenic. You can use surgical steel.
Hi Heather. Can you please make a video of of that ear wire that is safe? The one i was wearing when i was 16 around 1986. That had a circle at the bottom and the pendant or stone or whatever was sitting in there and there was not a chance in a million years to lose your dangle. They look like the small kidney ones exept that the kidney dont have that turn wire to create the loop. I hope I make any sense !!! X
@@HeatherBoydWire not that one. It look like this one but instead to have an open eye on the bottom it had a closed one with the wire comming out of the loop and became the pin to secure the clip. I wish i could send you a picture. I can find them to buy but only in real gold :( My jewellery will cost an arm and a leg if I do in gold x
Does it have to be Stirling silver? I some, but it's dead soft and doesn't hold shape.
Hi Peggy: You can use stainless or surgical steel. I wouldn't put copper in my ear because they are sensitive, but it really depends on you. You are right dead soft would not hold it's shape.
The Second idea I didn't get did you say that your going to put it on your ear like that or were you just making a ear hook plz tell me 🤗
These are earring hooks that you can add dangling beads/wire designs to.
I brought some earrings off someone and they were wire hooks and gold tone I had them in for a few hours and they went black I see loads of people making these types of earrings and wearing them but surely I should be able to wear them longer than a couple hours?
Hi Amy: I use surgical steel or Argentium silver wire for earrings hooks. Other metals can cause allergies or turn colour.
@@HeatherBoydWire Thank you I’m actually allergic to surgical steel unfortunately they seem to make my ears very itchy, also I would love to make my own jewelry, I was looking at wire on the Internet and I don’t really understand what wire I should be buying 😂, I have a lot of piercings but what should the gauge wire diameter be for the hooks? Thank you in advance I’ve had a look through your videos and you are very talented 😊 x
Good morning mam What kind pliers i used
Hi Janet: My pliers are very old, so the brands are no longer available. I use flat nose and two sizes of round nose pliers. Zebra is supposed to be a god brand.
can I go earring hooks from paper clips?
No, I would not use paperclips for earring hooks. The metal is not hypo-allergenic or safe for ear wires.
Could I use a wire paperclip
Hi Katie: I wouldn't put a paperclip in my ear...you might get an allergic reaction.
Hey, what brand round nose pliers are you using.
My red and black round pliers are no longer available. The red ones are Cresta brand that I bought in a hardware store 30 years ago. I am currently using the Xuron round nose pliers amzn.to/3xZK5GS and Beadsmith looping pliers for larger circles. amzn.to/3kfIj06 These are Amazon affiliate links but you can probably find them on other platforms as well. Good luck.
Can I use copper wire?
I can only wear surgical steel and silver but copper and brass may be OK for less sensitive ears.
what type of file are you using? Is it one specially for wirework?
I use the wire rounder by Beadalon amzn.to/42JyhIO or you can use a fine files amzn.to/49FB3ku bonus, there appears to be a flush cutter in the set!
Is it small pliers you use or are they called small round nose pliers?
Yes, they are round nose pliers. The brand I have is no longer sold, but it's possible they are fishing pliers...I bought them in a hardware store 30 years ago!
My bead comes off from the top??
Make sure the hold in your bead isn't too big also make sure you do a sharp bend above the bead so it doesn't slip. Good luck.
I am using copper wire is it okay?
I wouldn't put copper wire in my ear because it might change colour and cause allergies. You can use surgical steel or silver wire.
I use Chrome paper clip is that also okay.. 😅
I don't know if chrome is good inside the ear. It might not be hypo-allergenic.
@@HeatherBoydWire Guess it would depend on the wearer, nickel allergies are common and therefore nickel plated clips should be avoided. I would highly recommend stainless or silver for any ones you intend to sell
@@meercreate I agree. Surgical steel and sterling are best. Some people can only wear real gold too.
Would it be safe if Its not real silver or-
It depends on your ear. Some people are very sensitive. I would only use surgical or stainless steel or silver!
@@HeatherBoydWire ill make sure to write/tell that to people if they want to buy from me (Im planning on setting a little shop in the summer just talking out some jewelry and paintings and see if i Can sell Them! Thanks for the inspo!
I just used a large paper clip cuz why not 😁🙌
Hi Lili: I'm not sure you'd want to put the paperclip wire in your ear. My ears would explode if I did that cuz they are very sensitive.
Are they safe to use tho
Yes, if you use hypo-allergenic wire if you are sensitive. You can use sterling or Argentium silver, surgical steel or even brass/copper if your ears are not sensitive. Do not use aluminum for these!
Aygulo kothy pabo
My only concern would be infection
It's best to use stainless or surgical steel or sterling silver for the hooks.
Is it safe ?
You need to use sterling silver. surgical steel or hypo-allergenic wire for the earring hooks.
Finally imma make some lesbian earrings 🤩
I don't know if you already saw, but have the women symbol here: czcams.com/video/7UybXKLGmp0/video.html
Im about to make some lesbian earrings if you know what i mean , can i make the earrings with french wire?
Nice! I'm not sure what you mean by french wire. I use aluminum or copper for earrings and silver or surgical steel for the hooks.
@@HeatherBoydWire oh , thanks anyways , my dad got aluminium wire so im gonna use that :)
@@venypeny Are these the earrings you mean? Let me know how they turn out! czcams.com/video/7UybXKLGmp0/video.html
Good morning mam What kind pliers i used
Hi Janet: I use round nose and needle nose pliers. Unfortunately the brands are no longer available. I've been told the Zebra brand is good.
I went through 8 videos and all of those required expensive convoluted equipment and fussed around...found your video and let out a deep EXHALE - I found the most simple, no fuss tutorial with just simple tools that most people have. Thank You Heather!!! 🙏❤️😊
Wow, what a wonderful testimonial. THANK YOU Alexis!
@@HeatherBoydWire I was so pleased too. I ordered a batch of earring hooks from Amazon and they snapped in my fingers whilst assembling the and connecting the beads. I went to my local craft store and the findings were so expensive. So finding this video has given me the ability to make my own and also guarantee they will not snap off. Thank you again.
agree...easy and wonderful
