  • This is some of the progess done to my e28 over the past year or so. Nothing too crazy just a budget build that I get to work on from time to time that’s now my daily. No where near finished so subscribe to the channel. A lot has been missed like starting motor change, alternator testing and swap, Lowering spring install, and interior replacement pieces. But as parts come in I’ll try to post more videos. Leave a Like 👍🏾, post a comment, and don’t forget to hit that Subscribe Button and support small CZcams.

    I miss my 83 533i. Awesome cars. Really love the e28 chassis. I have built some sweet customer 5er's before and they have always been one of my favorites. With proper mods and 3 pedals and an lsd you can't go wrong with them. I would throw euro smilies on there and shadowline it, oh and you can drill out or shorten the three rear bumper pistons, and paint it body color or satin black. Bumper tucking is mandatory if you keep the OEM 'diving boards.' Before you painted, you could have filled in everything sheet metal wise where the bumper was if you aren't going to get some euro ones. I can't tell on my phone what color it is.... at first I thought Diamond black?? My screen protector is really scratched and yellowed out. The style 5's also looked good on there

    • @RAMelloh-ij5sl
      @RAMelloh-ij5sl Před 4 lety +1

      Mark, leave the springs and ride characteristics alone and see how you like it. E28's are at or near their best left stock. A lot of the renowned E28 ride characteristic is derived from the higher sidewall height of original spec tires. Those sidewalls are part of the suspension. If you absolutely need to go to a bigger wheel size, try a 16" rim with 60 series rubber. It looks a lot better than the stock 15's and really fills the wells without rubbing, but you won't lose too much of the original ride characteristic.
      One of the nice things about the E28 in standard configuration is the excellent ground clearance for a touring/sport sedan. I like my E28's exhaust system and air dam right where they are, attached to the car, not peeled off on a curb cut. I don't get flats either. I run 16's in summer and studded mud and snow 15's in winter in a rugged environment.
      Ireland Engineering made a great SS aftermarket exhaust, not too loud, a nice, noble rumble that turns a head now and then. My system must be 15 years old and still sounds and looks as if new. Not sure if the system is still available.
      Enjoy your 528. I have loved my '87 535is since 1999. My next upgrade will be Bilstein B-6's all around and fresh OEM springs in the rear, along with a refresh of the front bushings and center link, maybe the idler arm and tie rod ends while we are in there. The car is old, but all that stuff is still cheaper than car payments and new car insurance.

    • @markwerner7297
      @markwerner7297 Před 4 lety +1

      After owning the car for almost 2 months I totally agree with what your saying. I’m probably not going to do much with the considering it’s got over 200k miles and the body would need a lot of work before I started even doing anything else. The car handles bumps great and the feel through the wheel is great already. I also live on a dirt road that gets ruts and lots of mud in the spring so lowering my car would make it nearly impossible to get through it.

    • @RAMelloh-ij5sl
      @RAMelloh-ij5sl Před 4 lety

      @@markwerner7297 Sounds like you know what mud season is all about. Low riders need not apply in this vicinity, and the ubiquitous razor sharp granite curbing around here is not kind to low profile wheel and tire setups.
      Front and rear bushings are consumables on the E28's. Keep an eye on them. If your steering wheel shakes under heavy braking, the bushings are probably overdue. They aren't cheap, but they aren't crazy expensive either, kind of like a brake job. I am on my third set in 21 years.
      I have an E34 3.5 liter engine stuffed in my E28, along with a outsourced short shift manual tranny. It's a nice, modest upgrade. It required some motor mount mods and one has to use the original fuel management for clearance purposes under the bonnet. Good to know, if you get that far with yours.
      My dashboard "blew up" years ago. How about yours? The dash was a mess in 1999, when I bought the rig for $3500. I got a dash cover from Bavarian Autosport long ago. I hate looking under the cover. It's so sad under there. My E28 has always had to live out under the sun and stars, no garage. The sun is cruel. The car is beater chique.
      I could use to replace every last door and side glass seal. The wind noise is getting ridiculous.

    • @markwerner7297
      @markwerner7297 Před 4 lety

      RA Melloh my cars almost completely stock except for some Hella halogen lights and a aftermarket radio. Paints seen way better days and more the wind noise is pretty bad in my car as well. Dash is pretty good but it is cracked in a few places, but it is kept in a garage now, but before the car was always kept outside as far as I’m concerned

      You basically tap into the ignition switch, I’d start by studying your vehicles schematic at the ignition switch. Identify the correct wires and the switch you order should give you some type of instructions on how to hook up your wires. If I remember correctly a ground, always hot, positive when in ignition position, ignition wire, and a relay. Super vague but hopefully you get the idea.

    Das war die mieseste "Restauration" die jemals gesehen habe. Federn abschneiden, Lackierung in einer Garage. Das geht gar nicht. Den Wagen hätte der TÜV in Deutschland sofort aus dem Verkehr gezogen. Schade um dan BMW.

      That was the worst restoration ever seen feathers cut off, painting in a garage that's not the dare the tuv in Germany had immediately pulled out of the traffic. shame about dan bmw

      Thanks man I really appreciate it, got into this car not knowing anything about older BMWs and definitely very satisfying seeing the progress. Doing a m52 swap is something I want to do down the line, I have never done a motor swap before so it will take a lot of research before I jump into that project. For now I’m going to try to get 400k+ out of this m30. Andthank you again for the sub I really appreciate you support the channel.
