Haven't heard this in ages. It's also the first time hearing a female cover of it as well. I enjoyed the trip back to 1986. I'll quickly share a story of why this song is so memorable; after all that's one of the pleasures music brings to us.
This song was popular (and new) when I graduated from high school from a small suburb town of Northern Detroit; on June 8, '86. Our class song was Phil Collins' "Take Me Home", which was also new. This song "Sledgehammer" seemed to follow me along for an entire year. Two weeks after graduation I flew to San Diego, California to begin my training in the military. I remember hearing the song a couple of times on the radio (in the background) while in our company barracks. I couldn't enjoy it though because basic training is no fun. Everything is strict. After finishing boot camp I was sent to Memphis, Tennessee for 9 months to recieve more training. My very first night there (after arriving straight from California) a few of us went to a club. Sledgehammer came on and I had total freedom to enjoy it; mind you with a few beers already consumed :-0! Even when I hear this song now all I can think about is high school graduation, San Diego boot camp, and getting drunk in Memphis (more than once). I know, weird ; -}
The video of Sledgehammer won some awards I believe because of the stop-motion techniques used; a first of it's kind in the music video industry. At the same time I'm pretty sure that A-ha's "Take On Me" music video also won an award by using similar methods. Both songs came out at nearly the same time.

Good evening pretty Sarah. . In France, it is 11:22 pm this Sunday and I have just listened to your new sharing for which I send you a huge thank you and I will tell you why. It turns out that I love Peter Gabriel and his voice which is recognizable among a thousand. My favorite song from him? It's "Don't give up" accompanied by fantastic music in a magnificent duo that he formed with Kate Bush. You know what? The big boy that I'm watching 2 or 3 times a year "Wall-E and it's one of the rare films that I watch until the end of the credits only for the song and in Wall-E it's Peter Gabriel singing it! 😊

Sarah, I haven't heard (or seen) this since watching the Peter Gabriel video on MTV in the 80's. I'm paying closer attention to the words now, and with the help I'm getting from your magnificent cover work, those words are coming across more cleanly and powerfully than ever. Amazing, it was two years ago today you covered this gem! This is one of my favorites! I have 2 daughters, and this is their Birthday. They were born 5 years apart. I remember when I watched this cover. We remember how scary it was at this time in history. Then I watched you sing this super song. The bright light shining on you. The beautiful dress, the fun and fabulous rendition. I watched your beautiful smile, and thought bright times are in our future! I was correct! Sarah, a very special thank you for this upload!
