  • I was on my way home from a good morning of fishing downstream and I decided to stop and see what the river was like closer to Portola.

    Best day of the year so far.
    DUDE! Exactly the reason I moved here.
    You are exactly in my back yard.
    Now I gotta call in sick tomorrow and hit it before the flatlanders get here! 🤣

      There are so many miles of river still to explore out there I think you are safe from the flatlanders. They haven't overrun any of the other rivers on my river fishing playlist. The thing about river fishing is it's hard to get around, the drive is usually far for most, and catching fish isn't easy. That weeds out a lot of people.

    Amani-
    Nice to see you got some good Trout. We always did well with a Gold Kastmaster in High Elevation waters. I would love to see you fish a 1/4 or 3/8 oz Kastmaster with a single barbless in your next Adventures, to see how it compares to using Bait. Just a thought... Good Fishing!

      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I don't use bait in rivers because I only do catch and release in that circumstance but I do throw lures in lakes sometimes. Especially around sunset or when I'm using my boat. I don't have any Kastmaster videos but I have them in my box. I think the only kastmaster success I've shown is on my ice fishing playlist but I can't be sure. I know they work though. You can cast larger ones a mile.

      Thanks for the kind words. Glad you found my channel. If you haven't seen a lot of it, I have hundreds of videos across my channel playlists. If you are mostly into catch and release my backcountry fishing and river fishing playlists are safe bets for that. I only fish artificial barbless in those instances. It's a mixed bag when I bait fish on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing and reservoir fishing, and ice fishing playlists. I love eating those pink meat rainbows. In those, if I can clearly release a fish safely I often do. Besides, I never really need to keep more than one or two fish even when I'm looking for dinner.

    Enjoy all vids. You fish waters I have fished and places I haven't, yet. We're chatted about the Cutthroat in Prosser Reservoir awhile back. You would have more advantage with a 6-6' Rod, making it easier to keep the fish away from snags, etc. I caught many fish over the years on an Eagle Claw and not an expensive rod. Today it's called the Crafted Glass Rod, and it's on Sale at Walmart for ONLY $19! Just a thought... Keep up the Great Vids, my friend.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I fish a 5' ultralight rod because I want less advantage. I like to feel like I could lose a big trout at any moment. Prospect of failure brings me the adrenaline rush. I often have to hold that little rod over my head to keep fish out of trouble!

      I appreciate wanting it to be competitive. I use a 7-0 Fenwick and a 6-6 Pflueger Medalist, but only 6# main line & 4# Leader. That way I get the best action from the Lure, and don't lose everything if broken off. Good Fishing, my friend 🎣

    What a Day Amani! Driven by that part of the feathers several times and always wondered. Spring weather & fish with serous girth a good day indeed. Not a lick on ice on Boca today, what a difference a week makes.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 7 měsíci

      I drove by the feather at Portola a lot myself and just figured, without any evidence or reasoning of course, that the fishing wouldn't be good there. Now that I know different, I have a ton of scouting to do. The canyon downstream from Portola looks interesting. There is good looking Feather River prospects all over out there. Snow is coming hard next week. Hopefully ice fishing will happen this year but if not, I have no problem standing on the bank and casting out.

    @JoeD.294. Před 7 měsíci

    Amazing what you can find by taking the time to explore. Fishing barbless is always the way to go. I see alot of jig fishermen who release but they still have the barb which tears the fish mouth up.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah, the barbs on those big jig hooks can shred a fish's jaw. I'm going to head out there and explore a bunch of new sections around the Portola area. Exploring rivers takes a lot of time and energy but I'm ready to attack when it stops snowing next week.

    Love fishing the feather one of my favorites!! Quick question, do you ever consider coming down to the foothills and fishing Folsom lake? I know you have a video on it previously but nothing recent! It’s my home lake and I never really thought of it as a trout lake but they do stock it in the winter when it turns over.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 7 měsíci

      I haven't fished much at Folsom lately but I want to fish it this Winter. My Cousin Lance and I were talking about fishing it when I come to town to visit family one. There are big trout in there and I know people get Salmon on boats. I hit a nice salmon once with a minnow and a bobber back when Wild Sports was still open for live bait. In Winter time the holdover stocked fish from the last year should be close to shore so now is the time. Lake Natoma has giant rainbows. 2 state record rainbows have come out of there and I have caught multiple rainbows at Natoma over 5 pounds since the mid 80's. Thing about Natoma is you don't catch a lot of fish there. Getting skunked is a major possibility. You might get 1 bite in an entire day but it's often a big rainbow. I haven't fished there in a while but I want to go this year. I also plan to hit nearby ice house lake as soon as the snow mellows out.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 7 měsíci

      It looked like a spawning Salmon! I got another one that was a little bigger earlier when I was fishing for my Patreon. I wonder if that is from genetics passed down through the generations of brown trout in this river system. That is a wild guess of course.

      I always try to throw in the off season regulation reminder. I found a jar of powerbait up at the bridge of Greagle. Really fresh so I could use it but so fresh it's clear someone was breaking the law. Judging by all of the line and tackle on the power lines there I'm guessing that is a go to spot for a lot of people.

    • @seantaylor2046
      @seantaylor2046 Před 7 měsíci

      That's exactly what I thought. I know you do Amani. Nobody's more attentive to regulations or conservation than you. I'm sure those hangers are old and from dummy anglers off the bridge. Love that place. Ya know I watch al lot of fishing vids, especially Trout. Few if any posters identify where there at. Some are CIA about it. As I have navigated your posts over the past 3 years, when I moved to Reno., I have never seen you encounter more than a handful of people (mostly viewers) and zero congestion due to your discloser of fishing venues. I applaud your frankness and acceptance of the world as it is. Your an Anglers angler Mr. A.@@wildernesswithamani1027
