    As a Canadian I remember watching this game. It killed me at the time. But looking back on it now I am happy for Sweden 🇸🇪. The better team won on that day. 👏👏👏

      As a Russian I also remember that day :)) I supported Canada and felt very disappointed. It took me a couple of years to realize what phenomenal talent Peter Forsberg was. His later performance for Colorado was so memorable. And Paul Karia just took his first step to glory.

    Swedens first ever Olympic gold medal! And what a final game it was!
    Sweden was loaded with both past & future NHL top players;
    Hakan Loob, Mats Naslund, Tomas Johnson + rise of Peter Forsberg, Tommy Salo, Kenny Jonsson, Andreas Dackell and more. Also Sweden had many international top level players with experience like; Jonas Bergqvist,
    Charles Berglund, Jorgen Jonsson (big brother to Kenny), Roger Johansson etc. so Sweden had a great mixture of experienced veterans and tallent-rich youth with them to Lillhammer.
    Interesting fact: Hakan Loob, who played 6 seasons with the Calgary Flames and became known as a smart goal-scorer and won the franchise's first & only Stanley Cup was regarded as Swedens best player not in the NHL, and yet he had originally declined to participate in the 1994 Olympics due to having a bad season with his native Farjestad BK in Elitserien and only after repeated pleas and begs from Sweden's manager Curt Lundmark Loob changed his mind -
    and the rest is history.
    Despite Peter Forsberg and Tommy Salo became the tournament heroes, Loob was Swedens best point scorer in the tournament and placed 4th overall with 9 points shared with Slovakias top 3 scorers (Zigmund Palffy won with 10, Miroslav Šatan & Peter Stastny with 9) and only goal differences made Loob not be 2nd.

      I watched it live.
      I think it was telecast about 3 or 4am P.S.T.
      So I had to get my breakfast and snacks ready the night before.
      Overtime and then the "Shootout" were very exciting. Felt bad for Kariya because he seemed like a pretty good kid, but some of those Neanderthals on the Canadian team caused me to root for Sverige.
      Always loved Mats Naslund, but while Forsberg was in the NHL, he was sort of a punk at times.
      Still a very exciting game.

    Except for the dirty less skilled Canadian play style, it was a great game when a Hall of famer was born, Peter the great. Pure legend!

    With a little of the famous Canadian or USA gonorrhea discharge (super luck) on the puck the Swedes will had killed the game and end the match in 2nd period with 3or4 goals to 0. Corey Hirsch is the only Canadian as deserve an olympic silver medal in this FINAL.

      Dude Sweden only got to OT because of a phantom penalty at the end of the 3rd. And even that goal was a broken play shot off a Canadian's skate. Then Sweden won in a shootout. At that point Canada didn't do shootouts in the NHL or in Jr. It was like a joke to us. Yeah the best players in Sweden took on a bunch of Canada college players and minor pros and best us with the refs help and a shootout.

    Sweden's team had scores of ex NHLers and even a few who had won the cup such as Naslund and Thomas Jonson. Canada team was entirely made up of fringe 4th liners, career minor leaguers and a pre NHL Paul Kariya. The fact it still took a shootout to beat us is a compliment to the level of secondary talent our country has.

    Penalty against Canada with 2 minutes left is criminal. After all they let go. Hlushko gets elbowed in the face no call, 3 minuted later Naslund dives after a small hook. There were 50 of these hooks in the 3 rd Period alone.
