    After graduating from Parsons School of Design, I began my career in fashion design and freelanced both in New York City, as well as London. I designed hand knits for Elle Magazine and was the editor of the Hand Knit Page before hand knits fell out of fashion in the early 1990's and the page was discontinued. In 2008 I launched my jewelry design business, designing fine jewelry in 18 & 20 Kt Gold with gemstones that I hand select for each piece. Several awards and numerous write ups & interviews in all kinds of magazines and online zines, I re-discovered hand stitching in 2015 and my life took another turn. I have been designing in some form since I sold my first felt embroidered xmas tree ornaments to a small shop in Northern California when I was 16 years old, and have never looked back. And while I've had detours along the way: had two children, worked at an advertising agency, got into acting in my early 20's, published some articles for various magazines and wrote for the Huffington Post for a few years, I have always come back to designing. It is my first love and remains so to this day.

    Thank You so much for this great video. I have done some Brazilian Embroidery years ago, but have developed a real interest in stitching with wools. In my search it has brought me to you. Thank You again. I think I need to sign up for a workshop.

    Brilliant Ariane. I included ribbons in my order to Stef Francis that they're just putting in the post to reach me in time for my birthday so that I can show my daughter what her birthday money to me went towards. I think I only ordered the 2 and 4mm though. Oh well next time! Still looking forward to the parcel arriving. I chose colours to fill gaps in plain shades so the hand dyed variegated ones will add more interest to what I am working on.☺ Thank you.

    I have Sue Spargo’s book and Judith Baker Montano “Elegant Stitches” . Did some Brazilian embroidery stitches years ago when I was a member of EGA. The Embroiderer’s Guild of America here in Long Island. A beach scene or underwater scene would be great for your stitches. I went to Massachusetts’s years ago too to take a class in a school held in Winslow Homer’s former home. It was beautiful. Elsa Williams was the owner then. I did an underwater piece in canvas with a seahorse and coral and colorful fish. It was 3 dimensional piece. Put it in. A frame which I attached to a wood paper town holder. What a fun day that was. This class included lunch. Cold delicious cucumber etc soup. Her wingback chairs were all crewel embroidered by her and her dining chairs were crewel embroidered to Mach her China on her clear glass table. Unreal beauty. To look at her beautiful China and look through her glass table and see the chair seats matching. Ugh. She ran a school from that home. Her shop was next door in a small building. Each bedroom was decorated in different sewing techniques. Needlepoint, crewel, quilting, etc. such beauty. Students stayed for a week and received a gem stone the last being a diamond. It was such a classy small school. Your stitching reminds me of that fun weekend one day class. I loved her catalogs and was thrilled to be able to go there for a one day class. My husband made a vacation out of it. He and my daughters enjoyed the hotel pool that day.
    Getting her catalogs was wonderful. I would sit with my coffee during the day and enjoy looking at it.

    Lovely colour Ariane, could you share a picture of the silk ribbon floss? that you tried but didn’t like how it turned out please. I can’t visualize what you are speaking about.
    It is raining heavily here right now and imagining all the snow that is falling in the city. Stay safe, be careful when you go out when the snow stops.

    • @ArianeZurcher212
      @ArianeZurcher212  Před 3 lety +1

      It is the Painters Thread ribbon floss. It’s made of cotton and so is bulkier.
      It rained here over night, making things a bit more treacherous. 😱

      @@ArianeZurcher212 I guess I heard silk not cotton because that’s what I was envisioning you used. Sad to hear about it raining.

      @@sandih.5798 Well I'm not sure that it actually did rain, that's what the weather forecast said it would do, but now it says that it's cloudy and it's actually snowing again pretty hard, so I have deduced from all of this that I cannot trust the weather forecast to necessarily predict or even say what is actually going on.❤️

    I notice your fabric is a loose woven one. Would this work with quilting cotton?

    • @ArianeZurcher212
      @ArianeZurcher212  Před 3 lety +1

      It would, it just won't be quite as easy to stitch through, but yes, you certainly could use cotton. Just not a pima cotton or batik, which are much more tightly woven and therefore would make the stitching really difficult.
