i think its a sport as long as the execution of movement greatly impacts the outcome in poker, it doesnt matter how precise your hands are, you just have to make the right calls (and more) table tennis is a sport cause the movement of hands and arms matter a lot darts is a sport cause the movement of your arm and hand matter a lot but calling darts players athletes is overkill

Snooker/pool - align yourself and deliver the cue as required to make the balls go where you want them to - a hell of a lot of technique Darts - throw the dart to where you're aiming - technique Bowling, Curling, Shooting, Archery... they all need technique. The question isn't whether they're sports, it's whether the people that play these sports professionally should be referred to as "athletes". For all of the above, they're sportspeople because physical fitness is helpful, but not required.

You live off of it and have to train for it regardless. I'm not 100% on how poker works, but Stephen Hawking could see the cards and then communicate to go all in via his machine, so he could legitimately play poker by himself. Therefore poker isn't a sport. Could say the same about chess, remove the time conditions and all you have to do is say "queen to E5" or whatever the chess notation is, so Stephen Hawking could do it. Therefore, it's not a sport. Stephen Hawking could not hold the controller to play FIFA competitively, and since playing FIFA has a competitive aspect, Esports is still technically a sport. Just because it doesn't involve MUCH movement doesn't mean it doesn't involve any. Stephen Hawking couldn't play darts, so it's a sport.
