While I was filming, the homeless people living in Venice beach bathrooms an unexpected police chase happen, and I choose to follow the police car to see what was happening. A woman got arrested for breaking into a house. I recorded the cleanup of some homeless encampments
We as a society still can't admit it was a big mistake to close down mental institutions, so know we see them living and camping on the streets. Either you can support and take care of yourself, or you belong in a government institution where they can shelter and take care of you, but they shouldn't be on the streets. They weren't perfect there was a lot of abuse in mental institutions but ultimately if you had a serious medical episode there were medical staff nearby where as here they piss shit and do drugs on the street and if they're lucky someone walking might call 911 if they notice them overdosing

'This' situation runs much deeper. Most of them are dr*ug addled add*icts and because of dru*gs have severe mental health issues.
Isn't it ironic? Ironic because some states are legalizing the same dr*ugs that are a strong factor in mental Il*lness.
Actually it was the ACLU that had the mental hospitals closed down. They were supposed to be replaced with community outpatient centers which to this day have never been funded.@@julietwotrees5665

That lady and many more like her need to be kept off the streets. Either in prison, mental institution, or forced rehab but not in our communities.
problem is the medical system, or police, or legal system can not take action until someone breaks a law or have been legally determined as a ward of the state or a family member gets power of attorney and takes responsibility. Very difficult and expensive.

Do people realize the people in city council are the problem then its senator's and govoners? The people have to take the power back by either lawsuits or recall the people in charge. But it's obvious nobody seems to care or doesn't know what to do.

Need mental institutions. In a way cruel to just have these people lose on the street endangering their life and others. People like that aren't just going to snap out of their situation.
What's needed is not mental institutions. What's needed is a network of state and local government funded and operated addiction treatment centres for indigent addicts who can't afford private sector treatment, and to change the laws to empower the authorities to forcibly commit addicts to detox and rehab.

It is, as cities up & down the West Coast face similar situations. Although not as severe, even Toronto has homeless in some of its parks. A lot of those people decades ago were confined to so-called insane asylums. Now asylums are located on public sidewalks & in open-air settings.

What I don't understand is why do homeless get everything so dirty and disgusting.

Because, for the overwhelming majority there, "homeless" isn't their problem. Its a symptom of a much bigger problem(s). That's why you can throw good money after bad at "fighting homelessness" and end up with nothing to show for it - like we are currently.
Mental illness..your home reflects your mind..may those derailed matter..and get the care needed now.
In a weird way it reminds me of how in Oregon you’re not allowed to pump your own gas, they have attendants who do it for you. When I asked one of them why Oregon does this, their simple response was that it provides jobs for people… I don’t know I feel like that’s enabling stupidity or something.
If all of these homeless people were gone there wouldn’t be jobs for all these other people who clean up after them every day. Just more enabling of stupidity.

The gov't should pay people to walk around, and then pay other people to follow people that are walking around. Keep hiring an equal amount, walkers and followers, until there is full employment! A chicken in every pot.

These are some real life videos! Good video GiV! My sister used to live down at the Venice boardwalk in the apartments right next to the sidewalk cafe in the early 70's. She has some photos that she took from her window. The grass looked so green, no homeless. We've always had homeless, but never ever like this. GiV, did you know there was a pier called P.O.P in between Santa Monica pier and Venice? Dogtown and zboys. It's hard to believe, it was such a huge pier, Disneyland on the beach! My older sisters went there, and grew up with the zboys...but I was too young. Venice used to be half way decent, Santa Monica was beautiful at one time, quiet. Every weekend we went to my grandmas in Santa Monica. Quiet beach town. You can see Venice boardwalk in the early 70's in the show The Rookies. You can see the old P.O.P pier in the Twilight Zone episode In Praise of Pip. Also, they filmed some movies there. They filmed an episode of the old Mod Squad there also.
P.O.P. Was Pacific Ocean Park, I loved going there!
Beautiful sunrise I’m glad I live in Arizona where if they come in my dog door they’re going out in a ambulance (dogs) pr a casket . Mental illness and addiction is not safe to bargain with when they enter my home uninvited.

I am a Santa Monica beach native. I get why you love the sound of the seagulls in the morning. The best part of living on and by the beach that I miss is the beautiful morning light as the sun comes up, the smell of the ocean and beach, the sounds of the pigeons and seagulls, and feeling the positive energy in anticipation for the day.
Really appreciate your videos and I know you have found your calling. You are a natural - great sense of humor!! Also amazing is your willingness to help the homeless man and actually collect money for him. Perhaps you can eventually set up a non-profit; because there’s a difference between working behind desks in politics, where self-promotion and gain is more important than knowing the needs of a very sad and homeless population. You are action-oriented and that’s what gets the job done.
Btw - why did you mention you won’t be on CZcams for awhile - or at Venice Beach? Meeting up with mom?

Remember when part of serving certain minor offenses was picking up trash with Cal Trans by side of freeways…a long time ago…today one might do well to send crews out to clean up these situations..

I use to live/work in THE JOLLY ROGER down in Venice in 95 thru 97 and it was awesome. Go say hi to Mr. Gorby for me. He's the owner. It was madness every day and I loved it. The vagabonds in Venice suck. They ruin everything because of their selfish ways. Love the Channel. Keep up the good work.

The 1st thing I learned when I HAD TO secretly move out of my Family Home (since the 70's) to stay away from Abuse.....I learned that the "Freaks DO" come out at night 😢 I now take advantage of my showers at the 24hr GYM at 6AM.....cuz at night (like 7pm even) my fellow Homeless folk that use drugs (drugs are NOT for me) sure are not in their right sober minds 😢😮
Not all of us Homeless are drug users 😪 but we do have "selfish FAMILY" in common....and Abuse! 😢 #NarcissisticAbuseSurvivor

l was adopted but my biological mother lived on the canal in the 60's. She was an ACLU attorney and early greenpeace alumni. Hippy for life. She had the Tiki-hut house if any early canal people remember it. lt was in several movies back in the day.
This is by choice for those camping in venice, it’s a drug problem. Nothing to do with mental health.
