Absolutely! I worked at a middle school in Daytona (CMS) for three years and it was honestly the best three years of my life! The kids were awesome (and very accepting of an “outsider” like me) and the parent/guardians were just as great! I still keep in touch with many of my former students and try to help em along the way, and yes….some are incarcerated, but I still try to make it a point to visit them and touch base when allowed (Covid stopped a lot of that for a while). They were accepting and trusting of me when I was a fish out of water, and I feel it is now my duty to do the same for them…regardless of what mistakes etc they may have made, they are still my “Soms and Daughters” (as Dr Jerry Picott would say!)

That's the diversity in mindset a metropolitan offers. Daytona is the last major 'southern' city heading south. People are more down to earth in Daytona and that goes a long way. That competition they were talking about in the video, thats what would make a person from Daytona thrive in a bigger city IMO. I feel like if you can stand up in Daytona you can straight take off anywhere else.

If you really wanna make it you gotta leave Daytona if you're from the streets at least.

I relocated to Daytona Beach in 1995 with my family from NYC. The pace was slower and to get a job it wasnt about what you knew but who you knew. It took me a minute to figure that out. I did succeed and went to DSC and achieved my degree and my kids thrived in the safer enviroment down here compared to NYC. Life is about making positive choices and getting positive results.
All the development now is along LPGA...shopping and high-price apartments. Inner-city may be seeing some, but nothing compared to the edge of the city.
Its soo sad man... it looked NOTHING like that in the 90's. I went to BCC, baby..President Bronson years, and walked the Ave with no fear. Volunteered once week at the community center in the project's. Never had an issue...it blew my mind having young dudes with gold grills, hold doors open for me, leaving the Bethune Market...bags heavy, and help me carry them to down to Lincoln. Splash nightclub and Twin Cities was the weekend clubs. Damn.

Ive been living in Holly Hill for 2 years. Been coming here, to south daytona to see family since i was a kid. I love it here. Its hard to find a job but once you get one then more come along and its all about who you know. The pay is not the same as up north but we gotta pay the sunshine tax somehow.
