  • On the occasion of the exhibition ‘Amy Sherald. The World We Make,’ Hauser & Wirth London hosted a conversation between contemporary painters and their students.
Debbie Hillyerd, Senior Director, Learning at Hauser & Wirth, welcomed Shannon Bono, Andrew Hart, Jerome Ince-Mitchell and Raksha Patel from University of the Arts London and their students to an informal discussion on painting, in response to some of the themes and issues raised by the work of Amy Sherald.
‘Painters on Painting’ are exploratory learning events where artists and students engage in a conversation around painting exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth London. The events aim to bring young voices into the conversation on contemporary painting and artistic processes.

Brilliant work. The simple presentation of Amy's work is thought-provoking and challenges observers to consider their own worldview and where the subjects of the portraits fit or do not fit into one's own preconceived notions about art, Black artists, Black people, and the Black experience.

As an artist I always think : "Great painting, why spoil it with words "... Never go to a show of your own art kids, you'll want to hit someone or cry...

Very boring paintings. Neighborhood murals. She thinks her Masters degree makes her an artist 😂 . I want to see her make a complete painting without copying directly from another picture.

She is an artist with or without any degree. Stop hatin on the Black woman for her creativity and success! Her collectors, museums, commercial galleries, clients and the art world knows she's an artist.
She's enough of an artist to make more on one painting than you'll make in a year. Why are you here if you don't like her or her artwork???
