Clint Gibbs was talking about people riding surons at the local trails almost took his yeti riding friend out when the surron was riding up a downhill trail. He said that his friend could've gotten hurt and I would affect his livelihood because he works of his hands. He said his friend was a dentist. And I was thinking I'll know he fits the stereotype and it was a completely serious video too so I couldn't even comment on it.
We do this in construction. If you walk into the site with anything new, boots, tool bags, power tools etc. people will immediately accuse you of being rich.
I witnessed a 50+ year old electrician talk shit on himself for walking onto my job site with brand new bags. He was having a battle with himself and himself only.
Thats not how you should do it brake the brakes so people think you just crashed and now you cant brake so they will move out the way to show you their respect
I ride a lot and so I clean my bike a lot. I always get called out at the start of a ride for having a bike that looks like it doesn't get ridden. I just tell people that I actually look after it.
Best advice: just don't care what others think. Do I need a 15k bike? Hell, no. Did I buy one anyway as a 45th birthday present to myself? Sure did. And now, one year later, it still looks new despite logging almost 12,000 km to this point.
Same here, except I got one in the same pricerange for no reason except wanting it (at 33). I'm gonna wrap it, put all the bougie parts on it, clean it and still have fun with it. Having things is nothing to be ashamed of. It's a hobby. If you have the money, you get to decide how and where to spend it.
Just trade it in for mine..guaranteed to be full of everything a mountain is made of. You can't even read the schwalbe logo because of all the dirt. I'll leave the zip tied light + cardboard mudguard on for authenticity. Guaranteed eye catcher
You can ignore them, or tell them to go buck-off. To do something like that, says that you're so insecure about yourself, that you give value to the words of the insignificants.
True, but I only clean the drivetrain. I like the frame to be dirty to discourage theft. Some people even use duct tape or spray paint to make their bikes more ugly. I can't bring myself to this though.
This is the truth.... Got to keep mine clean, so as to save the bearings and bushings for as long as possible... Can't swing the replacement costs of a new bike... Maybe one day!!
I can probably just take off some worn out stickers from my old bike to new ones so it looks like it was used without doing any scratches to the frame.
I have no clue how this is targeted at Dentists specifically.. But as a Dentist, my E-MTB does sit in garage most of the time 😅, as I ride my Gravel Bike most often 😎, to work 😂..
When I was 8 I rode the bench in midget football so my helmet didn't have a single scratch on it. One day I snuck it home and scraped it all over the concrete. Next day at practice I thought I looked like Brian Urlacher
I bought a YT Tues during Covid and didn’t ride it for a year and a half. The first thing I did when I got to the bike park was ride through the dustiest dust pile I could find in the parking lot.
Don't seek the approval of people that would otherwise mean absolutely nothing to you. Its a bike, ride it how you see fit. If anything, you get to brag because you can still get joy out of riding in ways that aren't a coin toss away from killing you
My bike has been covered in mud for literally a decade never once cleaned. Sometimes I clean the wire cables but that’s about it. Not even chain or derailleur
Don’t forget about the stickers, go to your local bike shop where you acquired your rig and get stickers to slap on your rig to be your key word guide when talking to more experienced riders so you appear as if you know your shiz.
own and ride a nice bike. it is almost 20 years old. (before disk brakes were on bikes). i have a bit of ti, carbon fiber on the alu frame. a full boinger that tips the scales under 25 pounds. (no judy on it) but at now 63 i am not as reckless as i was back then. many trails i do not know the name of, but did the flume trail many times, even did mr toads wild ride back when you had to fly more than ride. quite a bit of down hill speed runs. and many a mt climb. lots of flooded back country. even rode the rubacon a number of times.
It's said that dentists have a high rate of taking their own lives. That being made fun of by other bikers must really take a toll on the mental health of dentists!
I get it, its silly but when i forst started skateboarding id run my board on curbs and rails to make it look like i was doing stuff i couldnt. Wasnt long until they were totally authentic however 😊
as a dentist, it really hurts...
to see my bike sitting in the garage

Don't dentists only work 3 days a week???😮
Do you look at it at 2:30?
Is dental school worth it?
Well since your a dentist, you have enough money to buy a dirtbike like a real man

In the motorcycle world we call these types of bikes Harley Davidsons.
I worked at a gas station once and we used to call other brands that look superficially like Harley's "Hardlies".

How to make your friends to stop making fun of you: get new friends
that’s what friends are for! to convince you to stay healthy and tease you about things.
Something along the lines of "with 'friends' like that, who needs enemies?"
Best answer ever.. Abundance mindset is a key to our peaceful life.
That’s not a yeti😂
