Hello,
In today’s video, I’m showing you how to crochet a miniature granny square. To make the square, I'm using a 0.5mm (no.22) hook and DMC's Special Dentelles No. 80 thread. The thread, hooks, and scissors are available to purchase from Claire's Lace: www.claireslace.co.uk
If you enjoy making dolls house furniture and miniatures, you might like my books; I've published 5 so far and they're all available to purchase from Amazon - just search for Julie Warren - or from my Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/bitsandp...
I also have a Patreon page, where you'll find more great videos every month. Patreon is a paid membership platform and your support means I can continue to make video tutorials, not only on Patreon, but also here on CZcams. Thank you for watching and Happy Miniaturing!
Julie. xx
Hey Julie just wanted to say these crochet videos that you have are just fantastic. I just ordered some of the DMC special dentelle can't wait to get it. Thank you so so much👏🏻👍🏻💕
In the US, we call these stitches DC. For TC, we yarn over twice at the start and pull through 2. Then yarn over and pull through 2 two more times.
I'm UK and always think US because it just makes more sense.
I crochet all the time but not so tiny. I would like to try to do miniatures. My mom, who we just very recently lost suddenly, loved your channel. I was going to by her a doll house to decorate just like yours. We’ll do it for her. You do beautiful work. Thank you for making my decision for me.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. I hope you'll spend many happy hours building a dolls house in her memory. xx
Thanks for re-teaching me granny squares!! Perfect for my doll’s cottage!
In the USA I call that a double chrochet
I did miniature needlework in the 1980's and this is so inspiring to take it up again! I made a granny square afghan with crewel wool threads and have also used sewing threads, fine crochet cotton, etc.
Tried the back of the thread and it makes it tighter and I love it, what a great idea!!!
Hi Julie. You’ve got that mixed up. It’s double crochet in US and Treble in UK
What a great tutorial, very detailed/explanation, thank you
Julie you do beautiful work on everything you make you are very clever 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Oh that looks so tricky to do,but i will try and see if i remember knitting 20 years ago at least, this trigged me a lot and i loved the video,so adorable, tiny and cute plaids, love it a lot
Thank you so much, I hope you'll give it a go. :)
All you have to do to really value the quality of Julie's videography is find a video that is constantly going out of focus and where the person's hands are in the way repeatedly (No offence to those folks. It is, I think, very difficult, to get the quality you are seeing in this video.) Not only are your miniatures fantastic, Julie, but the quality of your videos is also outstanding. Especially appreciated in such close work as this. As always, thank you.
Thank you so much Mary, that's appreciated. :) xx
If you yarn over once it's a single crochet in the us yarn over twice for double and three times for treble ❤
Sorry I said that wrong if you yarn over once and pull up a loop and go through two then the other two it's a double crochet 😂
It's interesting that you go behind the thread for a double crochet. Here in the US, we go under and then pull the thread through the center, then through 2 and then through the last 2. Where do you buy your Size 80 DMC thread? I'm having a hard time finding it.
We call the stitches different names here in the uk. I buy my thread from Claire’s Lace.
I ca crocet but wodnt ha e patience so s.all l will just buy yours from ersy well done love your tutorials❤
I watched your first tutorial. Figured out I really needed to learn how to crochet is real world size, before doing miniature. Well...... I fell down the crochet rabbit hole. Still can't see for tge minature. But I'm getting much better at normal work. In US. Double, in UK treble. But no biggie.
Where do you get needles this small?
The box that you made to sort your supplies
Hello Julie, Tulip hooks are great I have the full set of the steel ones, they are the best ones I have used after buying various hook sets with the smaller sizes, plus they're the only ones I found that go down to 4mm,
You seem to have mixed up your stitch names , you are using a US double crochet / UK treble, I learned to crochet using US stitch names about 12 years ago, it was confusing at first when trying to follow a UK pattern, it's easy to spot the difference now I have been crocheting all this time ,
Best wishes from Yorkshire 😊
Hello Diane. I'm in the US. Do you know where I could find Tulip Hooks?
Etsy has them and Amazon
Hi Julie! I am new at crochet however I am doing pretty well following your tutorials! I really want to accomplish this blanket so I will keep at it! However my squares look big?? I am using the dentelles and the 0.5 mm needle. What I could be doing wrong? Wish I could send a photo
It's probably down to your tension. Try to keep the stitches a little bit tighter, but not so much that the cotton is 'squeaking' on the hook. It's tricky I know, but it's all down to practice. You'll get there! :)
What are the dimensions of your bow that you made?
Where do you find the size 80 DMC cotton? Unable to find it here (US)
I use Claire’s Lace here in the UK. www.claireslace.co.uk
