- An interview with Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation) on a now non-existent local station in Los Angeles.
The clips shown during the interview are from 3rd season's "The Best of Both Worlds, Part I". The interview itself took place during the filming of 7th season's "Parallels", and was aired on October 14, 1993.
This was originally on a VHS tape recorded at the 6-hour speed, so the quality isn't THAT great, but it's OK.
Interesting that the interviewer doesn't seem to know Riker's rank after all this time, referring to him as "Lt. Cmdr. Riker". Heh...
Enjoy! - Zábava
"Return of the teenage sex symbol"
Lieutenant commander riker it's Commander Riker
Actually, for Generations, (at least for the toys,) they had Riker credited as Lt. Commander Riker. But, you're right, he's not Lt. Commander. He's Commander
His transporter duplicate is a lieutenant.
That wasn't who she was referencing though.
Technically, in this episode, it's Captain Riker.
As an adult I've learned that Wesley was a much better character then I thought when I was a kid watching the show on its first run. I'm glad Will has found a place to celebrate his relationship with Star Trek.
I was born in '89 so missed the first airing of TNG. I know Wil copped a lot of hate from from fans who were actually adults. I find that unacceptable, he was a child when he started on the show. I'm glad that as an adult you are mature enough to use your brain, unlike a lot of other 'fans'.
The whole ‘hate Wesley’ thing was stupid for different reasons. I never bought into it but some people are sheep and go where the heard goes.
Data should have grabbed Wesley in the first TNG episode and shoved him out the airlock.
I was born in 68' and now to look at the 70's , 80's . 00's...sigh. I feel your pain. Welcome to the club.
Cheeky Wesley Crusher 3:25 "they wanted me to wear your dress.. I said I'd only wear it if you were in it"
What an inappropriate thing for him to say. No wonder they got rid of him.
They're filming Parallels!
"the teenage sex symbol." "He's always smiling." "He's a kid." Sus AF from frakes in 2023 but in the 90s no one cared
Currently watching a Star Trek : TNG marathon on TV to celebrate the new Picard series coming out!
Btw, Wil Wheaton was (and still is) a babe!
Young Wil was shooting his shot with Marina. Straight savage!
He said, “They wanted me to wear your dress for this shot. Yeah. I said I’ll only wear it if you were in it.”
🤣
He had a shot back then. Apparently she shagged quite a few guest stars from what she said in an interview I watched.
@@lewstone5430 lol if we're thinking about the same interview she said "in the first season" though, because she had met her husband by the time they shot season 2
4:30 "And I have a feeling that in over a decades time, Wil will later go on to make recurring guest appearances as himself in a sitcom called The Big Bang Theory. Debuts in 14 years time on September 24th 2007."
Wil was good looking when he was young.
Weren’t we all? 😂
Actually, I have to offer a correction to that. :) Yes, "Future Imperfect" did have the altered communicators, which is where that style originated. But the episode that was being filmed at the time of this interview was 7th season's "Parallels", which has Worf moving through several parallel universes, at least one of which has the alternate communicators. The one where he's married to Troi and where Wesley Crusher is the tactical officer is one such universe.
Thanks, glad you all liked it! :) James, most of the interviews came from the news that aired on the UPN station right after TNG. Since they were right there in LA, they got to do a lot of interviews. A lot of the rest is just luck that I found! :)
That was a fun episode to watch. And right in the middle of it, wait, that's _Lieutenant_ Wesley Crusher? Full Lt. too, apparently. Wow, apparently in this universe, he must've passed his first entrance exam, and was probably out of the Academy _before_ NOT-Tom-Paris could get him in trouble. Contrast that with '616' Star Trek (really called Prime Universe, but hell, I can make random Marvel references sometimes too) where at the end of it all he's a Lt. (jg) who apparently just STOPPED 'Travelling' at the age of 28 or so. Looked good in the Lt. Cmdr. uniform for that (non-canon) Star Trek The Experience video though.
LOL, "not tom paris" That was pretty funny.
Well John in JJ Abrams version of Trek Kirk went from Academy cadet to Captain of the flag ship in ONE day so you must’ve been completely disgusted at that turn-of-events huh?
@@lewstone5430 No, I'm completely MOCK disgusted at it :P. Or more accurately I'm perfectly fine with it.
Thanks so much for adding, you have such incredible rarities as I have said many times!
Parallels was is one of my favorite episodes, it was really well done.
Strongly worded email if I hear Trak once more
I don't remember 1993 being so... old.
it's 4 years later how do you feel now
But my school video camera in 1992 was more colour accurate than this.
@@raccoon681 It's now 3 years later since your 4 years later comment.
@@Network126 Yes and im still waiting for this guy to reply what gives?
It’s been 10 years. I need an update.
hahahhaha Worf dancing at 2:38
?
I’m gonna go watch Star Trek on Netflix now
so good wil whaeton
His name is so funny to say 😂
lmao Ricker actually calls him the teenage sex symbol XD
Yeah, that verbiage was definitely a thing in the 90’s. Hella cringe now.
Well he was right.
Daniel Hill - wrong. This is from Parallels, filmed in 1993 for season 7.
2:00 Lieutenant Commander??? NOPE.
I feel kinda bad for Wil in a weird way. he seemed like he could have gone somewhere in his acting and then it didn't happen. and apparently around this time he developed depression (according to the interview he did about it a little bit ago). idk man, feels bad. he's definitely more dull in the eyes than he was before in this interview. and like the happy bits seem so fake on his part. maybe I'm just projecting because I have similar issues but idk
Lol, you’re projecting.
I heard his parents were awful.
"shields" shake! Lol
I admire will wheaton on stng
They spelled Jonathan's name wrong.
He had just ran a jonathon.
I like that commbadge design variant, because it integrates Starfleet rank pip system into the bars behind the Starfleet delta symbol.
In this scene, Riker's a captain on the Enterprise-D in an alternate quantum reality where Captain Picard was killed in action.
Riker was promoted from Commander to Captain and Worf was promoted to full commander, and they have Wesley Crusher on board, now a full Lieutenant, working alongside Riker, Data and Worf on the bridge.
And STNG ended 6 months later.
Marina Sirtis sounded more American in interviews back then, but in interviews now she sounds very English, so I think the producers might have told her to tone down the accent back then to not confuse the viewers.
Not really... during the show's run and even through the first 3 movies, she still sounded VERY British in interviews. Around the time that Nemesis came out, she sounded more American in interviews. That might have been because she was having to Americanize herself so much that it became more natural for her. But over time, the British started coming out again. Even now, if you hear her, she sounds kind of in-between. But if she's in England, for example, being interviewed on a British TV show, then she sounds VERY British again.
@@BryceNewall yeh it is more to do with where you live, if you live in America almost all the time, you are going to pick up the American accent but still sound words in English, not American-English.
@@starlight122012 Before Covid I spent A LOT of time working in the states and made a conscious decision to never lose my Australian accent, people seem to like it over there. Granted I haven't lived there for 30 years like she has, but I've found that some people are more susceptible to mimicking other accents when in another country than others. I worked with one Dutch guy and one Russian guy who both had perfect American accents.
JonathOn Frakes?
Hi are there any more behind the sceens footage of the TNG cast messing about like this?
01:26 "I got a call from my mom..." Does he mean Beverly? :-D
What, did they film this on a Motorola Razor!
Is she saying track instread of trek?
And Jonathan looks so done at 2:36. He just wants to go home 😂
Yeah she is
Who's Jonathon Frakes?
That's the guy that played Tom Riker, he looked so much like Will cause they're actually twins in real life!
Channel 13 in Los Angeles is still there, not what the description says. KCOP-TV Channel 13 is there to this day and has been there since 1948. It is now owned by Fox Television.
Wait...he was 20 in that episode!?
No 21.
2:04 - no he doesn't ... also, Jonathon? What is going on?
Yes, he was Commander Riker, not Lieutenant Commander. Research played no part in this TV program it seems.
Sheldon: WILL WHEATON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😡
2:30 Oh dear god no don't let them speak to eachother, they'll get started an never stop!
@TheSilverangel22 I'm sure there are, but unfortunately, the ones I've posted are all the ones I have.
How many times can she say "star track"?
Most scenes her from the filiming of the 4th season episode. "Future Imperfect." Look for the 'altered" Starfleet insignia on the uniforms.
Parallels
I look for Star Trek the next Generation to go off the air soon.
@birdman1604 Yes, you did hear that. Oops on their part. ;)
Lieutenant Commander Riker?
Jonathan Franks, Lieutenant Commander Riker?
Oh, the newscaster said "Star Track" at the end. Head low.
more like every time
omg @ 2:19 ...jonathOn ...fail. + the lt. cmdr. fail... somebody didn't like jonny.
Marina Sirtis seemed to have a little crush on Wil.
Lucky bastard, but the age gap is a bit... Concerning.
absolutely not
Well pretty sure she boned part of the cast
@@valiatus6719 Just a number 🤣
@@Network126 prison is just a place
he was written out? i thought he left?
Yeah i thought he left because everyone except him got a pay rise
HE DID.
They even misspelled Jonathan!!!! And got the rank wrong too. How pathetic!
Star Track
Cool
LOL man I love this. in Voyager the whole bridge shook. when the Enterprise D got hit all the actors did was shook lol. so stupid.
Really? the whole bridge on VOY shook?
@Kevin Howard you’re sensitive huh?
"Star Track" lol 0:38
Why is this newscaster wearing a Romulan jacket?
4:10 star trak knucklehead
The reason why the Wesley character didn't work was because it was so poorly written
Wil Wheaton is a really good actor
But the Wesley character was constantly being discriminated against
On the other hand they're not giving him a position that you would typically give a genius
He should have been the head of engineering on the very first episode
Or at the very least the number two guy in engineering or science
Copacabana on the Enterprise...…………… seriously?
Your a great actor Wil weaton always.
Can I have some of what you're on?
@@chrisarseneault5617 Yea sure. Are you being sarcastic or serious?
@@Happydude1183 serious
In this scene he is a captain.
no
In this interview he is captain.
Wheaton sounds so whiny at first, so self-pitying.
1:49 Wesley tells Worf it may take some time to get him back to his universe and Worf walks away in disgust at the idea of being stuck on a ship where Wesley is still around.
Lt. Com. Riker? Picard would never stand for this. Someone should double fist punch her into the next generation!
shut up, wesley
@birdman1604
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU!
They should seriously know better.
'TheTeenage sex symbol'
"Teenage sex symbol"
Anyone could do this.
''.. acting as a craft''. Yet he is completely talent less.
and then he grew up to be a pansy
Most annoying Sci Fi character ever. I wish they would have killed his character off. Like a really brutal death. Trekkies would have rejoiced.
There was a list years ago about multiple ways to kill Wesley. My fave: Give him a match on a hydrogen planet.
