Typically I hate the idea of shipping but when I watched this show I understood lol, by season 7 I felt so bad for Chakotay because she seemed to be flirting with him in like every episode but basically dropped the idea of being with him at the end of S2. Big bruh moment for him
Personally I don't think she dropped the idea entirely, but being Captain of a Starship lost in the Delta Quadrant, she thought it would compromise their mission if they were anything more than friends. But deep down, she always thought "when we get home, Chakotay, when we get home..."
She was obviously in love with him just as much as he was with her. She was just waiting to reach Earth
I totally shipped those two. Janeway lost her fiancee to moving on, while Chakotay's lover turned out to be a Cardassian agent. Soon as Voyager returned home, they should have snogged each other senseless while the bridge crew applauded.
You are 100% right and in my mind that's EXACTLY what they did ❤️
In the Voyager books they do get married once they return to Earth. I'm not sure if they are canon still but they are written by some of the show writers!

I must say before I watched voyager I thought people shipped them just to ship them as fans often do but after having watched 7 seasons I can totally see why and I too ship them tho I understand why they didn’t get together.

They definitely should of ended up together. Chakote dating 7 season 7 was the dumbest thing ever. Janeway and Chakote during endgame should of finally kissed like on ds9 when odo and Kira got together even though the on screen chemistry wasn't great with Rene and Nana it was definitely there for Chakote and Janeway
Because she was in love with Seven of Nine 😏
