  • My first attempt at a bottle gourd banjo, made for BHO member Tom Berghan. I'm kinda going out of order with the ones I've finished with this one. One-piece figured cherry neck with scroll peghead, walnut pegs, nut, bridge, tailpiece, and dowel. Goatskin heads with man in the moon sound holes. 26 3/8" scale. Tuning pegs turned out to be a little small due to placing them closer together than what I meant to, but work.
Strings were still settling in when I made the video, so it's tuned somewhere around cFCFG.

Sweet tune and sweet banjo!! I just put the skins on mine, so we’re closing in on it. Looking forward to reconnecting with frailiing after 40 year Scruggs-style hiatus, and I’ve got a bunch of your tunes on my list. But, here’s me counting the chickens and eggs aren’t hatched.😂. Keep up the excellent and inspiring work.

The moment I saw this the obvious thought that went through my head was 'that looks like Adam Hurt's gourd!' .. while it captures that vibe it also has its own unique sweetness. Glad I found your channel 👍

@@joseph2832 It's actually very nice, it has a warm and soft tone. It's definitely not my banjo of choice but it's cool to have, it's fretless and has a unique look and sound to it. You can do some cool stuff with it.

@@NoahCline No worries. I actually bought a pair on Amazon (!), and they cleaned up fine. If I can ever get this neck thing figured out, I'll be in business. Your builds have been really helpful as models.
