Daniel, the Hyperion series is epic and fantastic. My favorite by Dan Simmons, however, is a duology of Illium and Olympos. It combines Greek mythology, the Trojan War, AI, Shakespeare, Proust, dystopian future Earth, and the 144,000 Jewish Remnant. I am the person who sent you the Magicians Triology a year ago. Love ya, Blue Eyes!

“I am Cassius au Bellona, son of Tiberius, son of Julia, Morning Knight and my honor remains.”
One of my favorite scenes from all of Red Rising.
For most people Iron Gold ranks lower on their list of RR books, but I think each book in the series is better than the previous. So Iron Gold is my second favorite book in the series. However, when I first read it I was kind of disappointed. It wasn't until my second and third reads when I finally saw how amazing it is. I think the hype of waiting for it to be released, and then reading it in like a day kind of hurt my opinion on it.
The quality in Pierces writing really takes a step forward in Iron Gold. Pierces prose is my favorite of any author. He gets my heart thumping like nobody else, except maybe Brandon Sanderson in the Stormlight Archive.

Linguistically... it's just grammatical regularization of the paradigm based on the fact that the word prose has a phoneme that's typically used for plural. The only reason you wouldn't assume it's plural is if you know that noun typically has no plural (because it's uncountable), which makes it irregular.
