This one is nice video of cassette player with pre-amplifier, grounded all earth wire to copper wire so that there is no chance to humming sound to come through main amplifier and one can get cristal clear sound. So this is very idea to get the sound clear. Totally the video is nice. Thanks to share it.👍

It has a specific preamp for specific tape head but you can experiment with other preamps.

what would i need to do to make the tape head work with a pc usb sound card? both for playing and recording mostly to digitize old computer cassettes into an emulator.

You can use cassette to mp3 converter. Check this link czcams.com/video/YOGRiCXlGXM/video.html

Just plug the audio output from the tape player into your PCs audio input and thats it. Never waste money on an "MP3" converter for tapes. They do nothing more than any other tape deck. 3.5mm analog input > USB
You can record the input with Audacity and save it however you'd like

Dude. You used a mech with a plastic flywheel. The cheeziest of the cheezy cassette mechs. And that head. I am trying to hold back from laughing so hard I cry. If you were going to go through all that you could have at least used some mediocre tape transport. Not the worst of the worst. LOL
