- Felipe Massa’s latest actions regarding the controversial 2008 championship and the Crashgate scandal have evolved to the point of his lawyer firm sending an official letter to the High Court in London, and the man who was in charge of the sport back then, Bernie Ecclestone, has responded to the Brazilian driver. His response is definitely what we wouldn’t have expected in times like this, but the more important question is whether Massa is in the right to ask for such a resolution after 15 years, and what is the domino effect this could have on the entirety of the sport?

If this can be overturned then 2021 should be overturned as well.
Firstly, the whole season can't be deleted and secondly, if Abu Dhabi results were deleted, Max would still win, because in case of equal points, he would have more wins (9 wins for Max vs 8 to Lewis). So #teamLH fans sorry, nothing gained there.
Not the same:
Crashgate
- there was planned and deliberate action from Renault to affect the circumstances of race using illegal means: this was established with evidence
- F1, as the main organizer of the sports had gained knowledge of this conspiracy, and instead of resolving the case in a transparent and appropriate way, they themselves conspired with Renault to cover-up the incident. That's the reason why F1 had become complicit with the act.
2021
- Masi was pressured to provide an entertaining race to end a very exciting season and set it as the goal of Formula 1.
- Masi communicated this goal to all the teams, gaining their vote of approval and consent, giving Masi the authority to make decision which prioritize entertainment value during races. There are many interviews with team principal including Toto Wolff and Christian Horner that convey such meeting happened
- Investigation of 2021 result yields that team principal, particularly Wolff and Horner, tried to influence Masi to make calls and decision to their team's favor during radio communications.
This affected Masi's ability to response promptly and effectivly to what is happening on the track (he failed to give timely order for the lapped cars to unlapped themselves).

So difference is that
in Crashgate:
- There was a malicious intent to affect the result of the race and there was a malicious attempt to cover-up the said conspiracy by the governing body.
in 2021
- There was no such malicious intent in decision making involved.
Masi, being pressured to provide an entertaining finale to an exciting season, was compelled to make decisions prioritizing the entertainment value of the show.
He communicated this to all the teams involved and they all agreed to support when such decisions are called.
- That Masi's ability to make decision effectively was compromised by the TPs bantering and pressuring him to make decision favoring their own self-serving interests.
Mercedes wouldn't be able to claim that Masi was at fault when they were part of the reasons why Masi failed to make an appropriate timely decision at that moment.

they need to invalidate the entire Abu Dhabi race (not just Max winning the race).
Just like what Bernie said during the crashgate incident in Singapore (total invalidation of the GP's results).
Either way Max would win the championship, not Lewis

Both as bad as each other.
- Both Horner and Wollf tried to influenced Masi's decision to their favor, all throughout the race.
- Masi just want to end the season with an exciting race, a goal he communicated to the teams and all the teams unanimously supported.
- There was no evidence of cheating or conspiracy.
Why wait over 15 years? Is it just Sour Grapes. If he wins his claim, then pay compensation, but standings should stay. If not then Hamilton and Mercedes should have the 2021 changed, as Rules were Broken by the FIA for Verstappen to Win.
This case can the potential of opening a can of worms that can change the sport it self. The FIA has heaps of wrongs to answer for ..the question is how far back is anyone willing to go?
Outside of the Renault crash, both Ferrari drivers did everything wrong and lost fair and square.
If Alonzo’s team intentionally crashed Pique then their results should have been tossed. Alonzo off the podium and Hamilton to P2. You don’t cancel the existence of the whole race. You penalize the perpetrators. Ecclestone needs to go away, be banned from F1 and ignored. Massa, it’s just too late man!

That's not true@@philmark2296 . Suits happen all the time for the ruling rather than the money. Suits are often about establishing precedence and setting up lawfare wins which are useful rulings to have down the road in other claims. Maybe not this one?

Massa lost simple sore loser.
Firstly, I fully support Massa in his quest, this was blatant fixing by the FIA, the Singapore GP result should be annulled and Massa awarded the championship, secondly, The FIA did not break one it's own rules when Verstappen won his first championship, it simply didn't employ the rule that would normally have been employed for reasons which had been discussed and agreed with teams previously. They actually implemented the rule from the rule book that gave the race director the final say on how a restart would be run and that was to ensure the race didn't end under a safety car as agreed with all teams.

Massa is in the right. Hamilton is in the right (for 2021). But thing is Hamilton won't win his title with it. And Massa might. And if Massa does, Hamilton will loose another one. Bernie needs to shut up. He changes his tongue every few weeks.
