  • The United States Park Police is charged with protecting our nation’s monuments and landmarks in our national parks as well as in the metropolitan areas of Washington D.C., New York and San Francisco.
To help in this mission, more than a dozen all-electric cars and motorcycles have recently been added to their Washington D.C. fleet.
The Hyattsville police also acquired a zero electric motorcycle to provide pedestrian-friendly, quiet, go-anywhere capability in the town’s parks, bike paths and public areas, and have enjoyed the same success as the U.S. Park Police, on a more limited scale.

Very cool! Police and mail delivery vehicles should be EVs whenever possible.

A tesla recently ran out of battery power during a high speed pursuit. It had to be towed back and rebooted. Keep police, fire, ambulance, and just about literally any public service in business by purchasing gasoline and diesel engines. EVs dont even have a place in regular traffic, let alone chasing down bad guys.

@@Lrules364 1. The Tesla was not properly given a full charge in this instance. 2. What percentage of police chases involve only one pursuit vehicle? 3. What percentage of police hours are spent in high-speed pursuits (or even what percentage of driving time)? The answer to the last question is way, way, way less than 1%.

@nunchaku101 Demonstrably false, and proven so by numerous sources.

Sounds like a good use of electric vehicles. As long as you don’t travel more than 230 miles in a shift. I remember my dad driving an ev for the City Fire Department in Greenville SC in the early 80s. Maybe not so feasible for rural areas.

probably because most folks are used to cars with gas tanks and a small battery rather than a large battery and no gas tank. if it was the other way around people would be scared of having gas tanks in the cars. it has to do with what we are already familiar with.

Where do people think the power to charge these electric vehicles from?

Dave Pawson as long as they can suck their own farts out of the air with their own mouths, they dont care where the materials come from, or even how they are produced. These uppity ups just wanna feel good about themselves and brag to everyone about their new rides, and then beat them down with propaganda about how much better their electricity grid relient vehicles are.
I cant even fathom being this stupid.

Sunshine and Unicorn Farts bro. I happily charge with American produced energy predominantly from Nuclear and Natural gas, with some coal and solar being tossed in the mix I'm sure.

Electric motorcycles not making any noise puts the rider at risk. Loud motorcycles are safer due to the noise alerting other drivers, especially non-observant ones. If you can’t get them to see you, at least get them to hear you. Motorcycle companies should put more R&D into audio development if they make electric bikes. I’m sure they’ll be mandated to soon anyway.

The bolt is made in China, with chinese money. And then shipped here for assembly. Motorweek, this is a very sad time for your publication. Id expect better research from you all. These electric heaps are a waste of time and effort. They will need replaced in just a few years.
