      Hi Barbara, yes you can although bear in mind that you have used a very dry medium (pastel) so getting the glue on it might be a bit tricky but it can be done. I wouldn't used the liquid gold leaf but any of the other two should work fine 😁

    Hi Emma, thanks a lot for the information. Just curious that there isn't any difference in the look of imitation vs real gold leaf.

    • @EmmaRave
      @EmmaRave  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes there's not too much difference in look which is why the imitation leaf is so popular. The only difference I can see is that the real gold leaf looks richer and warmer in colour and doesn't show creases and texture as much as the imitation leaf.

    Hello , Emma!
    This is wonderful.
    What is the best adhesive to use for glass and gold leaf. I need to burnish the gold to create shades. I am not very good at using the gelatine (mental block) and as my mirror is already up I don’t want the adhesive to run. I thought of using Japanese oil? But I still need to have shades unless I use a colour for glass underneath ?

    • @EmmaRave
      @EmmaRave  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      I don't usually work on glass so I may not be the best person to ask but the adhesive size (glue) that I use shouldn't run as you only need a tiny bit which you can paint on with a paintbrush.
      I found this page here which may be helpful for you - barnabasgold.com/gold-leaf-on-glass/

    @janemccormick2932 Před 4 lety +1

    Thanks so much for the information! I would like to use imitation gold leaf on a purchased canvas. When I put the sizing on , it seemed to absorb into the canvas so I had to put a lot on to reach the tacky stage. It said to wait 20 minutes but it seemed dry in that time. Is there anything to put under the gold leaf so the canvas texture doesn’t show, and the sizing doesn’t absorb? Also, what do you use to varnish it so it doesn’t tarnish. I bought Golden GAC 200 but it took some of the shine away. Thanks so much for your help! 🤗

    • @EmmaRave
      @EmmaRave  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Jane, because the sizing company is probably assuming you're put it on paper the timing will be different for a canvas because the surface is different - it absorbs more than paper. You could prime your canvas a few times to get some of the texture to go but you'll still see it a bit - just the nature of painting on canvas. You could maybe also try priming with a water repellant type of paint. The best way I've varnished imitation leaf is by using resin however it's really expensive and comes out shiny - it does make the gold leaf look amazing though. I've also found it difficult finding varnishes that don't tarnish the gold leaf. Hope some of that helps :)

    • @EmmaRave
      @EmmaRave  Před 5 lety +1

      No you shouldn't draw or write over Gold leaf. The leaf is really delicate and fine and it will either damage the leaf or it will just soak right in. You could probably use ink over the liquid Gold Leaf though. I haven't personally tired it but I imagine it would work with just normal black Indian ink.

    I’m working on canvas and painted the bottom with acrylic. It dried for the best part of two days just to be sure it had dried, but when it came to putting on the gold leaf it’s stuck to the canvas where I haven’t glued it. Trying to brush off the excess but it won’t come off. Why is this?

    • @Azulaela
      @Azulaela Před 3 lety

      Imitation gold leaf

    • @EmmaRave
      @EmmaRave  Před 3 lety

      @@Azulaela When you're brushing off canvas it's slightly harder because it has a rougher texture than paper so it can get stuck in the fabric easier - it won' be due to it not drying correctly if you've left it that long.
      I would suggest putting it down in smaller sections and when you're brushing it off, hold the canvas facing down at a slant so you are not swiping across the canvas but just straight off. it may also be an idea to try with a harder bristle brush so it picks up more flakes. Hope that helps. Otherwise, stick to liquid leaf on canvas.

    • @EmmaRave

      I don't think super glue would be a good option because it could get stuck to the brush or any utensil you're using but also it's got quite harsh chemicals in it and gold leaf is so fragile so it would probably disintegrate it.

    Sorry, imitation leaf is not stronger than Gold leaf, it is harder and thicker and more brittle, it cannot be beaten as thin as Gold leaf, if it twas tried it would just turn into lots of thin metal flakes, that´s why it is so cheap in comparison to real Gold leaf.
