This video looks at reducing the size of a Dwarf Korean Lilac tree, where we take off many branches to reduce the tree size making it easier to maintain.
Hi Hike, love your videos excellent quality - just wondering on what pruners you use, they look to be Felco; but i know Felco have different pruner designs and associate numbers for each different design. I will be working mainly on fruit trees like apples, pears, plums in the future - as well as berry plants, haskaps, thornless blackberry, raspberry, currants etc - which Felco pruner do you find the best for these kinds of jobs?
I use the classic Felco 2. It’s perfect for my hand and fits in a holster or pocket nicely. I switch to a lopper for larger brances the 2 can’t handle. Bahco is my favorite brand for loppers and shears. Happy to hear you enjoy the videos.
@@gardenhike Thanks Hike for the recommendations I'll be sure to remember them - and again thank you for putting 100% into these videos I hope your channel grows you deserve it!
If you don’t want to skip a year of flowering, yes, prune directly after the lilac is done blooming. The goal of this project was to reduce the plant’s size by half, so it needed to be pruned when dormant (rejuvenation/renewal pruning). It skipped a year of flowering, but the blooms were incredible in the second year.
Hey Mike I gave this exact dwarf Koran lilac tree 16 years old the branches are way to extended out, it’s very dense. The question is how far back can take the branches back to basically start again ??? Help
What they write about size for my Korean Lilac is way off.mine is closer to 15 ft ht and width. Appears happy where it is in moist sunny spot.
