Way before the current boom in live-action Disney reboots, the company extended their most beloved movies through direct-to-video sequels, prequels, and mid-quels. Starting with 1994’s Aladdin sequel The Return of Jafar, Disney made sure their straight to DVD releases were there to give fans more of what they wanted. And what an amazing number of titles there are to choose from!
In this video, we’re ranking Disney’s straight to DVD movies by just how weird they got. Sometimes the movies were simply odd choices for sequels like The Fox and the Hound 2 or Bambi II. Sometimes they just didn’t add anything to the original story like Cinderella II: Dreams Come True or Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. And sometimes the stories were just odd like Leroy & Stitch. Some were even pretty solid efforts like Aladdin and the King of Thieves and The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. No matter what, though, before streaming services came to be, these direct-to-video movies were all the rage. Click play for our ranking of the weirdest entries in Disney’s straight to DVD collection.

Even when the choice to do a sequel was weird, some of the sequels e.g. Bambi 2 was incredible made. The story was simple and sweet with heavy moment which shows the grows of bambi. Also the animation is just beautiful, it is like the original just with upgraded animation but still beautiful landscapes and drawings.
Same with the Ariel Movies. It doesn't have super complicated stories (never had), but the presentation, pacing, animation and characters made it entertaining, true to the original and are perfect examples how to do a sequel.
I wonder, will the direct-dvd(blue-ray) sequels ever come back? Or maybe we really missed some for the series like Tangled.

Just a little bit about Bambi: In the books he does end up living with and learning from his father after being wounded as a young adult. In his youth he and his mother had met up with and even travelled with other deer in leaner times (which you do get a glimpse of in the film) and one of the older deer they knew was named Ronno. Initially Bambi had looked up to him but as adults Ronno confronted Bambi over Faline and lost.
In the first film the larger deer he fights is also named Ronno. Since the midquel lacked any major enemies outside of man I guess they just wanted to work that rivalry further into Bambi’s past. Being a much more kiddy movie they made Ronno younger than he was initially let on to be in the first film, given the three pronged antlers.

I've watched a lot of these old movies back when I was younger, most of these were pretty much my childhood. They weren't bad and they were pretty apart from the original versions but the plots were okay. Didn't matter to me that the movies were low quality and stuff back then. lol
I think I still have these old movie, though they're kind of scratched up.
They were entertaining enough and believe it or not, taught me some morals that I still remember to this day.

I knew about probably 3/4 of these movies. And I'd probably seen a little over half of them. Diehard Disney fans would know every one existed, but I'm sure that a large percentage at least learned of one title (at minimum) that was unknown to them.

Im definitely subscribing after seeing this video. I've watched a few on this channel before and liked them, but I think this video is a perfect example of how these types of videos should be. each segment is short and to the point, but gives you enough information that you could decide whether or not you would want to see the movie if you haven't already. and despite the fond feelings I have for some of the movies that were called lower quality in this video, I feel like it was done in such an unbiased way that I don't feel offended on their behalf, and I can just enjoy the commentary for what it is.
