As Greece's third-largest city, Patras boasts a rich tapestry of experiences, from historical landmarks to lively waterfront scenes.
It has a population of 216000 inhabitants and lies 215 km west of #Athens. The city is built at the foot of Mount Panachaikon, overlooking the Gulf of Patras.
Patras has a #history spanning four millennia and had become a #cosmopolitan center of the eastern #Mediterranean. Dubbed as Greece's 'Gate to the West', Patras is a commercial hub, while its busy #port is a nodal point for trade and communication with Italy and the rest of Western #Europe.
In February, the city hosts one of Europe's largest carnivals. Notable features of the Patras Carnival include its mammoth satirical floats and balls and parades, enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of visitors. Patrino #Karnavali is an everlasting ritual!
The orthodox church of Saint Andrew of Patras was founded in 1908 by King George I. It is dedicated to Saint Andrew, the patron of the city. It is the second-largest temple of #Byzantine style in the Balkans (after the Cathedral of Saint Sava in #Belgrade). According to the Christian tradition, Patras was the place of Saint Andrew's martyrdom.
The Roman #Odeon, the most significant ancient monument, is in the upper town and was built around 160 AD. It has been restored, and is used as an open-air theatre for performances and concerts in the summer.
The Patras Archaeological #Museum focuses on the exhibition of various archaeological finds, from the Mycenaean to the Late Roman era, discovered in Patras and the wider Achaea region.
The medieval #Castle, in the ancient #acropolis overlooking the city, was built by the Byzantine emperor Justinian.
The stairs of Agiou Nikolaou Street are leading to the castle neighbourhood and offer unlimited views!
#Psilalonia is one of the city's most visited and bustling places, in the upper town part, with the homonymous square linking people from all ages and walks of life.
The municipal Theatre #Apollon, built in 1872 designed by architect Ernst Ziller. The building is characteristic of the 19th-century neoclassical style and is in the Georgiou Square, central square of the city.
While #Gerokostopoulou Stairs is a meeting spot, full of cosi cafes and clubs.
Riga Fereou street is a pedestrian full of positive vibes, fun and delicious flavors.

Of great importance for the area is the swamp of Agyia, a small and coastal aquatic ecosystem and park, north of the city centre. Next to it, the beaches of Agyia and EOT is a convenient escape for those seeking a quick dip in the #Ionian Sea.
The #Achaia Clauss wine industry and tasting center, which is on the outskirts in Petroto village. It was founded in 1861 by the Bavarian Gustav Clauss and is most famous for its #Mavrodaphne. A breathtaking place that looks like a palace, it also houses the oldest wine of Greece, the old mavrodaphne of 1873.
Rio-Antirrio Bridge, is a modern landmark of Patras region and one of the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and longest of the fully suspended type.
The castle of Rio offers a fascinating journey back in time!
Kalogria Beach rewards those who venture to its shores with a mix of sand and pebbles. The beach is known for its calm waters and is ideal for families. The forest and wetland is of great beauty!

When I watch your video presentations, I can feel what the Harmony of Life really means. You present everything that our beautiful Greece is known for and that is really worth it. I have been to Kalavrita and I can say that it is a beautiful mountain. I rode the train through a narrow canyon that looks Divine. The recommended hotel on Kalavrita is Filoxenia. The hotel is located in the very center, and there are also bakeries and nice coffee restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. The atmosphere in the hotel is very friendly, so I sincerely recommend it from the bottom of my heart 😊😊

little finger and portion of the skull (relics) of St. Andrew are inside the cathedral. very special pilgrimage place for Christians. the relics were returned to Patras from Rome about 60 years ago. there's a portion of his cross in the church as well.
