They would probably be paying a 100 times more if the guy wasn't in a piss poor area but $1000 is a lot to someone with nothing so they skimped hard and hoped it would work out in their favour.

Some of these sort of shows make criminals look smart - but in fact, criminals are stupid. As Mr White the comedian says "you can't fix stupid."
It would certainly be interesting to know what cartel these individuals are involved with. The arsenal of weapons tells me this is a much deeper operation than what the weapons indicate.

they use the same sound track in multiple videos of the robbers shouting "go, go go" and background noise... very cheap production. probably only person paid anything is narrator and everybody else gets minimal fees as "extras".
