I went looking for PC Parts in SCRAPYARDS in Taiwan...

- Scrapyards, some say these are the epicenter for getting a deal... and after today I certainly have to agree. Where we go through some places that are quite far out of Taipei and look to see what PC parts they have - mainly motherboards and Hard drives, since the other parts, like CPUs and GPUs are usually melted down for rare metals.

It's the "Trash YES City"
Or in my eyes, Golden Ticket! XD
This was essentially your trip, Mr. Tech YES Man.

i wish that i was a madman like him
Lol
Me too so long as I'm not forced to work there and burn the parts to retrieve the gold
there is an area of Seoul SK with tons of resale/junk shops, it would be awesome to see someday
Sadly a lot of times people throw away PC's simply because their OS isn't working like it did when it was new. My neighbor threw away a perfectly good laptop a few years ago, one that was socketable and about a 2013 or 14 model, and the ONLY thing I found wrong with it was Windows 7 was completely locked up from viruses and junk/malware etc. He had stuff pilled up in his truck ready for the dump when I happened by and offered my help. I instantly noticed 3 printers, several old TV's, two computers and a monitor thrown in his truck along with lots of other junk. I took the printers (all sold together on craigslist for $100) and kept the laptop and monitor and upgraded it with Intel wireless AC and a SSD + more ram and a much faster CPU. Total upgrade cost was about $70 considering I already had a spare Samsung 840 Pro SSD. The stuff people throw away jeez. Oh, and my Father just threw away a HP 7520 AIO printer all because it had a paper jam (not joking).
I used to get everything like this too. Furnished a home with stuff people discarded once, complete with two workstations. I had so many computers too, which I fixed and gave away.
That's how I found my gaming laptop
Neighbor threw a way his laptop 3rd gen i7 8gigs of ram all it needed was a new hdd
After that I added a egpu dock and a 1060
Still works great till this day
I'm always on the lookout for hardware
So far I'm up 10 pc's 2gen i3's ll the way up to 4th gen i5's
People will throw away anything
Specially rich people
My buddy went dumpster diving found a perfectly good working intel nuc all it needed was a fresh install of windows
Workplace at dominos is upgrading the computers on the 3rd. Iâm gonna score 2 core2duo hp computers (ainât much). They were a bit slow in the store but those fuckers were never cleaned out.those will be caked(and are) in dust. I think a clean up and they will run fine for some old PCs. I donât expect much from the gpu because they would mainly need the cpu power from just running programs not too intensive(just under strain during heavy loads)
It's insane when u think about it. I got two Server Computers with ivy bridge Xeons cause they "didn't work anymore".... On one, the sata cable of the Hdd was lose and on the other the PSU was dead. So i got two dual Xeon Systems for free.... When u think about the fact, that those Processors were about 1500US each back in the day... PRETTY LUCKY DAY
I've gotten 1 desktop and 3 laptops that were "broken" and got them working. Desktop needed a virus scan and more ram. Laptops needed new batteries, ssd upgrades, and ram. The people gave up and bought new computers, let me keep the "broken" ones.
Always remember to scan old hard drives for Bitcoin wallet files ;)

Airport security watching the this guy's luggage go through the x-ray: everything looks like a bomb with PCBs everywhere.
Considering information you got on that HDD, it solely paid for trip and all, that information is that expensive lol.
Btw we have a similar flea market in Serbia on fridays and saturdays where you can get your weekly dose of trashed tech from Germany, Austria, Sweden etc, basically small scrapyards in its own.
i bought a used gaming rig a gfew months back and the guy didn't wipe his SSD, it had, shall we say, compromising pictures of him and his girlfriend on there...Plus Steam, Email and Premium Spotify accounts all logged in.
Did you message him? Y'know just for shots and giggles...
@@tristan6509 Yeah I sent him a message saying I was listening to his spotify playlists. I didn't mention the pictures, to cringe worthy. I also warned him about not wiping stuff if he ever sells another PC.

Here in the Philippines there is a huge market for surplus computer components and systems. Almost all of them come from scrapyards and recycling centers like this, with most of them originating from Korea, but parts from Japan and Taiwan can also be found too. There are thousands of internet cafes and businesses that run with imported computers or systems built with used components. From motherboards, power supplies, graphics cards, laptops, monitors, peripherals, you name it. Almost anything computer related that's used can be bought.
You can pick up a used mining RX 570 for around 70-80 USD, motherboards from 775 to 1151 for 30 USD, or even a 500-600w power supply from a name brand such as FSP, Seasonic, and others for around 12 USD or less. Now these may not sound that good of a deal to those who watch this channel on a regular basis, but take note that there are so many shops here in the Philippines that sell these components making them extremely accessible and readily available. Even those who live far from Manila (Where most of these shops are) can order them online via Shopee or Lazada (Equivalent to Ebay, Amazon, Aliexpress) for the same price plus maybe 1-2 USD for shipping.
Where is this market?
@@rencm04 Ah sorry. When I meant by market, I mean that selling used computer parts is a big business in the Philippines.
But to answer your question, there are many shops all over the country where you can buy parts. Places such as Gilmore are a good example. However, the best deals can be found online on Tipidpc.com or Facebook Marketplace. I would suggest looking online first before buying as that's the way to get the cheapest prices.
A note for the kingston life time warranty. It is covered as long as they still have available ram sticks to replace them in stock. I had a conversation with one of the warranty guys on the phone, they did also replace an old DDR2 1gb 800mhz ram stick that died on me from an old pc. They will ask you to send in the faulty ram stick also, but I didnt have to since it was DDR2 and they just wanted to get rid of the last few sticks they had.

Tech YES!
Great video Brian, thanks ! Like these longer format vids
Great vid! Love watching these kinds of videos! Keep it up!!!
THIS! This is the Tech Yes content I like to see. Would also love to see what those final configured "gaming pc's" used parts are, prices, and game benches next. Was that a Maxtor drive I saw ??? Those were my "go to" HDDs back in the day.
Nice deals. I Like those parts. As a tech enthusiast I'm happy that you saved them, and someone will be happy to use them.
This video was awesome, thanks for all your creative ideas you put into videos
Loved your idea to venture off from computex into the junkyard ! Very original fun and refreshing !! If I'm in Taiwan ill go do that
I was wondering why so many second hand motherboards from the east had all their vrm heatsinks removed. They are being taken for scrap.
A lot of cheaper boards don't even have heatsinks. The VRM isn't producing that much heat that one is needed, only a bit of airflow will do the job aof cooling.
Iâm quite aware. I was talking about p67,z68,z77 etc. boards that I know came with vrm heatsinks being sold on eBay and similar from China and the like without vrm heatsinks on them. Listed as refurbished usually.
I love your channel, you are a real enthusiast ready to go even to a scrapyard to do a build!
I wish we had places like this where I live then used PC Part hunting would be so much fun! Great Video :D Keep up the excellent work!
There are Ewaste centers all over the world do some research you will find them.

That Tech Yes City music playlist, where is it? Music is always on point new aswell as older videos, goes really well with the always happy positive attitude with everything. Awesome video, thanks for making this and sharing! đ
This is awesome! We have junkyards around me in the states called "U pull it", which has the same setup. It's nice to do if you are handy, as you can work at your own pace and often get all the little odds and ends that usually get thrown away, like interior pieces or something as simple as a hood prop. Sure you could buy new but why when you can the fully functional OEM one for 1/4th of the price.
Hey Marco,
thanks for the trip man. You are cool
Thank you!
very cool content and I look forward to seeing some builds with these boards.
From about 15km far from me is also a scrapyard, it's a tech guy's paradise. I know the owner and I just LOVE going there from time to time to check the PCs people throw away, I've found pretty awesome retro tech.

I go to my local recycling centre all the time in the UK I have had some amazing deals on used parts and everything they sell is 10 GBP so I've built some really good machines on the cheap love the scrapyard :)
$3 1tb harddrive would make a great free Nas system
Wouldn't that be kind of risky though?
You can assume thise hard drives are at least 6-7 years old and add to that all the bangs and drops they suffered during transport and while stacking , i wouldn't trust anything important to them.
Verliebt yeah maybe best for steam game storage or back up of back ups
I was in Taipei city back in 95. Itâs amazing how they have dedicated areas arranged in several blocks with common electrical items such as cables, motors, electronics and so on. You just tell the taxi driver what you want and he will take to the specific area that only sells the item you are looking for. A real eye opener.
Oh yeah. Since Guanghua is for computers. I've been calling everything else 'Guanghua' to mean specialised shopping district.
Wedding dress Guanghua on Aiguo road. Car Guanghua on Chengde road, Jade Guanghua on Jianguo......
Theres a Chinese guy that sells out of his house in the same scrap yard(Garages under cover), He is in Burwood NSW. He also has working cyrix, Pentium ones, old servers, 486, 386 everything new and old.
Oh i love that store. I bought about 55 vintage CPUs. Saved from the horrible hell of the smelting factory. They're worth much more than their weight in gold. Gonna pick up more later.
Good work guys.
Those places look Iike my backyard đ
Scrapyard searching is my dream, but my local scrapyard won't sell anything.
Yeah same in aus, they block it all off....
I haven't tried it yet in the Netherlands but I am pretty certain that a recyling center would send me away. It would be fun, saving old hardware from it, building systems, selling those for a fair price and helping the environment, the buyer and myself in the process.
Us asians will sell anythinf. Need a kidney?
Mike Dg and Iâm sure itâs not your kidney either đ€Ł

Bryan, just a recommendation. If you ever buy a hard drive again and see that there's still data on it, it's better don't ever look at it and wipe it right away. There are things in this world that you really don't want to see. Trust me, I've been through this and some of the things I've seen still give me nightmares.
I've had that ram issue on an Intel H55 board before.
Good parts hunting!
Now I understand why motherboards from aliexpress are always slightly rusty/dirty.
Cause it's bloody humid here. My drill bits turned red after 6 months of being here.
But the things on AliExpress are from China not Taiwan
@@loserbear0103 Some people from Taiwan do sell on Aliexpress and Alibaba. Some people from Taiwan do send those motherboards to China for either recycling or resale as well. But yes. It's humid as hell here in Taiwan as well as southern China.

I have more problems with the asshats that throw luggage around than security. Security has literally seen EVERYTHING. They know what motherboards and hard drives look like in xray.
TAIWAN IS TECH CITY
I once had a DVD writer in my checked bag, and the guy at the x-ray asked me what i had in the bag, but as soon as I told him about the DVD writer his colleague said, "those look ugly" and everything was cool, they didn't even ask to have a look inside

just a fun fact. if some motherboard dony post or anything at all. wrap most stuff in foil except the chipsets and bake them in the oven for 7 mins at 170c (200c if first time doesnt work) alot of boards have lose north/soudbridge solder joints and this would probs fix it too
4:32 Tech Yes Scrap Yard~
THE OLD INTRO YESSSSSSSSSS! thankyou
This is one of the best tech videos ever!
The 15 dollar X79 build I got from my local recycling center that I thought was totally dead finally is finished. Based tech god, couldn't have done this truly wild and unpredictable build without you chief.
This is where i get a lot of parts for resale, my local scrap yard. or night before garbage goes out,
take a drive and see what's outside waiting. surprisingly most parts i find do work.
best deal i ever got was a EVGA 1070ti for $10 2 years ago. think i got $100 for it which was a great deal at the time.
fantastic video, I don't think any other tech channel has done this. Several PC's worth of mobos for the price of one!
Thanks for the win7 pro license, works great!
I always thought the Taiwan/china recycle centers would be like the literal gold mine of old pc parts... but that looks just like the ones i have around here. pretty cool!
Check the AsRock board again with both sticks in it and look if the amount of RAM is right. The board probably just used the memory installed in B1 and didnÂŽt recognize the stick in A1 as itÂŽs probably dead.
A lot of dual channel boards will want you to fill the 2nd slot first.
Thanks Bryan, Yep Old windows 7 pro key worked for my Win 10 Pro install... Thanks bro.... đđâ€â€đđ

Since I have an access to the "pc scrap room" from where decommissioned PC is going to the kind of facility rhat can be seen in the video, I'm usually getting those kind of parts for free, generally there are mostly socket 775 that I can't see a point in taking, from time to time I'm finding 1156, 1155 custom PCs and oftenly a dell or lenovo prebuilds with 1150 socket and an i3 4th gen, usually without the memory or storage drive, but still worth taking.
I've been doing this for a few months now. My recycling center receives mostly older machines though, I've only found one lga1155 motherboard so far
I'm a Taiwanese. I don't even usually enjoy dealing with scrapyards business people. They are sometimes not so friendly with outsiders. You and Marco were doing so good.
Thank you! It helps when you know the language and they don't have to deal with an arm-flailing idiot pointing and grunting because of the language barrier.

I got an old PC from a scrapyard recently but they're actually not allowed to sell or give out anything. Still on the lookout for proper places that sell PC junk in Austria, all I know of is a center that already resells old electronics which I haven't checked out yet.
Man that place is a paradise for hardware lovers đ
those prices are insanely good :O If i had the contacts i would get a full container worth of parts, especially the drives :O
Thank you
I wish they had scrapyards like this in Illinois. I could start my dream job of just repairing computer parts all day. lol
Hey @techyescity, Regarding those Windows 7 license stickers with keys, they're technically not permitted for use on other computers as OEM licenses are formally tied to the hardware with which they're sold. (That's essentially the Motherboard & CPU combination, though I've seen even things like an SSD swap break an OEM activation. Microsoft's exact definition is a mystery to me)
While those keys may still activate an install, it is no more compliant than a basic activation crack. So people may as well use a crack.
