- Hello 👋
Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm
This is Sam and Oliver plus 4 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.
We are first-generation farmers, and we've had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.
We are both from farming backgrounds. I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I've learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15. We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to where we are now. We took on a 500-acre hill farm in 2019, currently 5 years into the tenancy.
Also, here to show people women can be useful in the agricultural world.😉😁

Can I a silly question 🙋
How tall is the grass when ye cut it
@SeanieD1968 knee-high and above ! Depending on growth rates and weather 🤣 hill farms knee high down 🤣🤣
Great part 1 , can't wait .
@@Sam-shutt

Great video Sam 👍
Thankyou
good filming; you are good with the drone!
😄😁thankyou 😃
good on jo and sam. two smileys.
Class video
some serious kit there.......takes a brave person to go contracting these days with the cost of everything. never seen trailers being tipped on top the clamp like that they generally tip it up out the end of the pit and push it in with the buckrake. your fella knows how to smooth talk the ladies doesn't he😂😂
It's compact and safe. 👍 yes it does unbelievable the cost of things !! Scarey!
Excellent video again thanks for sharing great drone work
Thankyou 😃😄
Wouw what a wonderful sight getting al the gras in Hope it stay,s dry for a coupel of days Farmers are Unbelivebel hard workers😮 thank you take care
They are really hard workers. Long hours every day. Geting this grass in to feed their cattle in winter months. Thanks
Awsum all the equipment gobbling up ground
Great video, good to see your sister. Everyone was hauling ash in and out the fields.

It sure does and the next vid iam even happier 😄😄😄😉
Great video Sam and great drone footage 👌
Glad you enjoyed it
i have been watching your videos for a while now, as an office worker now and ex miner a long time ago i have to say the grass team is one of the smoothest operations i have seen. your drone footage is amazing as well. i watch a lot of TP videos and realise now is grass cutting operation looks tiny at the side of this. mowers on all parts of the tractor, hope you find the calf soon. looking forward to tomorrows footage. just dont put yourself at risk for the footage. and as a grandparent to 1 we will have her all day and even some nights thank you and Oliver take care with the long hours.
Yes, you have been here from the start . Its a brilliant operation to watch ! Especially when it all goes to plan.! Every farm and team are different. Calf update on next video 😉😁 i just sit in my car and film🤣 its great . Thanks for the comment 😃
Sam, you were in your element!! Nice video, a lot of work, well done! Thanks!
I sure was 😄 next vid iam on cloud 9!
Great video! You re not afraid to get stuck in...Oliver always seems to be mean to you but im sure you both get on great.
He's not mean it's his banter and have to watch him with an open mind 🤣 laughed when I said Al Cart, yet 5 mins later, he wanted a leg stretch, so he doant mean anything by it 🤣 nos iam good at most things lol.defo not a want to be on the chopper seat 🤣🤣
Great video again.
Thankyou 😃😃
Brilliant 🤩
Thanks kimmmmy

The calf was found and i bet sam got to drive the machine that fills the trailers with the grass.great drone footage.
That would be an absolute dream!!! One day, maybe 😍😍 calf info on next vid 🤣😉 thank you 😁
Hanging Joe, mom minding the kids❤😂😂😂😂
She's a star 🌟 🤩 🌟
Great video can't wait for tomorrow for the 2nd part I really enjoyed you all working hard together 💯👌👍 and you had to have a go I am sure your trying to bounce the baby out 😂 how are you feeling Sam not long now xx
Even I am looking forward to tomorrows and not edited yet 🤣🤣 teamwork makes the dreamwork work, haha iam trying to bounce it out 🤣🤣 iam feeling great thankyou, ready for out tho!
The big machines came in to us today to eat up the acres. We are retired but the big bales go to feed dry cows. Can somebody find Oliver a happy pill or something - or is it all an act? Still enjoyed the sister act.👍
It's his banter. You have to watch him with an open mind. He jokes a lot 🤣 ah good 👍 we round bale everything
I did a 23 hr day farming n silo got changed n did another 18 hr day now im knackered arthritis n angina after 40 yrs farming
Ye a blessed with great land in that part of the world
Definitely!
👍
Nice to see another different contracting outfit, not too far away. Theres not too many silage pits like that. I've only buckraked two farms like that in 20 years.
No offence, but oliver looks a right plonker with that front weight on the puma. Just wearing tyres off quicker, and it's harder on the front brakes if its 50kph.
Yes, 50k it's come in very handy on the next video... part 2. I havnt a clue about pits ect thanks for the info 👍👍
Hope the calf turns up. 🤞
Watch this space 🤣😉
Great video ❤ did you find the calf?
Wait till the next vid 😉😇 hehe what's it called.... cliff hanger.? 🤣🤣
@@Sam-shutt 😁🤣👍🏼
Money in bank❤
All helps and enjoyable 😉
Carting silage be lucky to get more than 20 pounds an hour and the customer supplies the diesel so one major mechanical problem and the job is a complete waste of time
@johnmchardy4502 man tractor and trailer is a bit more than 20 an hour. But yes, chances of breakdowns is a risk but us hill Billy's have to try ! 😁😅🤣 and its a very enjoyable change
Yes you have to try and get forward and wish you luck but remember you will get 12 pound an hour for driving a tractor at least with no risk
@johnmchardy4502 what I used to get 👍
how much per acre do they charge for the complete job ?
Oh god, now you're asking ! I haven't a clue ! 🤣🤦♀️
Bankrupt in a week 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s odd the way In lreland they fill the trailers on the other side
Yes, so I heard ! We did a bit on other side, and I find it easier to look out!
Yes a sure look it’s what ever your use to but I do always wonder who’s actually right the Irish way or the uk way 😂
@@JamesCrampton-mz9vu I need to research this 🤣
I could not fill from the side u do in the uk .........so used to looking over my right shoulder ........
@georgedoorley5628 seems easier, like anything you do in the tractor I always look over right shoulder to look back, this is opposite way 🤣
Make me laugh when . Utube farmer buy a 10 feet mover.
I no ! Different world 🌎 ours is a10ft and nackerd 🤣🤣
Great video
Thank you really enjoyed making it
👍
