What’s the movie Battleship about?
Pacific Ocean... Off the coast of Hawaii, the US Navy is deploying all its power. The young and impulsive Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch from Friday Night Lights) is close to resigning from the US Navy. His brother Stone (Alexander Skarsgård from Melancholia and Generation Kill), who is a higher ranking officer than he is, laments his many antics. As a large part of the fleet, mobilized for a full-scale exercise with ships from different countries, leaves Pearl Harbor, a strange and threatening shape emerges on the surface of the waters, followed by dozens of others with an unimaginable power of destruction. Who are they? What were they doing, hidden for so long at the bottom of the ocean? The stunned soldiers soon realize that the mysterious visitors, who have come to plunder the Earth's resources, are also motivated by hostile intentions. Aboard the USS John Paul Jones, young officer Hopper, Admiral Shane (Brooklyn Decker from Just Go With It) and NCO Raikes (Rihanna) discover that the ocean is not always as peaceful as it seems. The battle to save our planet begins at sea.

I dont care what anyone says. I loved this movie. I just wished there were more scenes with the burke class destroyers kicking ass.
Definitely my favorite movie. And I really don’t care what people think of it
It's definitely one of my own favourites. Its just a good old underdog film. And it's great to see old fellas can still kick ass.
Agree
I love ur name lmao
then watch the series The Last Ship.
This is one of those movies where you turn off the brain, sit back, and enjoy the spectacle.
Very much agree
So much fun in this movie
Yes, this movie has flaws but witnessing the battleship Missouri blasting its earth-shattering main guns in all its hellish glory more than made up for it. :)
It's fortunate the Missouri is kept with ammo for those 16" guns
@@kenp7814 Well, in the movie. Museum ships don't really have ammo.
This is true........
@@rutabagasteu that you know of.
@@mattgaming8717 I know how they are put into the Navy mothballed fleet. No ammo, no oil, no food, etc. is left on any ship. Same with museum ships.
If you're trying too hard to find ways on how things need to be perfect then you're never going to enjoy anything that way. This was a fun movie to watch and had some cool scenes. I've watched it a couple of times.
nowdays people have problems with everything. they want everything perfect. its a fkn movie who cares what happens in it. all the action scenes were cool as fck and yes I have watched it couple times as well.
@@zabiarayyan7056 thats what i said this movie has been on my top ten for years its an amazing movie even if it had its flaws but some people don't understand that
I must admit, this film is a guilty pleasure.
No pontificating, no sexual politics, just some good old fashion fun!
Exactly.
Well put
true
We will most likely never get movies like this anymore
Also they put the fucking board game mechanics in the movie without being totally ridiculous, shotting blindy to a literal grid, the fucking alien shells that looked like the "bullets" of the board game, brilliant.
This movie takes the time, effort, plot, pseudo-science and CGI explosion just to make a realistic live action version of the freaking BATTLESHIP BOARD GAME.
If nothing else, you must give it credit for that.
This is the movie man which comes to my mind when I think about Hollywood
This movie is cheesy, makes no sense, is cinematic hyperbole-on-steroids...but it has a special place in my heart. My brother took me to see it on a US military base when it came out. The cinema was packed. Lots of families, lots of cheering, good times abounding. He passed away very unexpectedly two years ago this October. I think of him all the time. And when clips of this film show up in my feed, I always watch them and smile. Thank you, Peter Berg.
I keep thinking to myself though - man, someone had SO MANY BUOYS that they decided to put them in to a perfectly square grid like that. That's fortuitous.
Japanese, of course (if they exist)
I remember that, there it was used to detect tsunamis
I think it was NOAA. And there are buoys like that to track wind and waves. But I doubt if they're in a perfect grid like that.
The movie's story was silly, but rule of cool drives it and I really loved it!!
universe's most advance ships vs one drifty boi NAILED IT
Man I love those Arleigh Burke class destroyers!⚓️🇺🇸
Iowa Class Battleship is still the best though.
I love this movie
Wish there was a part 2
Lot good people in this movie
The ending made it seem like there will be. Alien landing in Scotland.
Imagine reverse engineering their tech and upgrade it to the battleship
This is a great check-your-brain-@-the-door movie.
70 year old technology took down the new technology hell yeah
yea.. According to hollywood.. Logical they travel light years to use simple "newtonian" physic... Beat that.
Except that is true in real life. If you let any of the Iowa class battleships fight you in a broadside, you will lose.
They aren't used anymore because their effective range is shorter than current ships but if they get into range, you 100% lost.

You can tell he wasn't feeling that "nincompoop" line, and I don't blame him.
The Aliens didn't expect the unexpected - a retired mothballed relic battleship rained hell down on their "advanced" wingship ekranoplans! Then Missouri went on to cripple two plasma shield ships and then took out their Telecommunication system!
The Aliens were like "WTF" just happened!

This movie's logic might've been horrible
But you gotta admit, the tension they create on fight scenes are top notch
Loved this movie, and the whole idea of it.
This movie is that cool imagination we made up while playing with toys
They are called destroyers for a reason.
Loved the movie, but there's nowhere near that many buoys out there lol. That was pretty comical lol.
Yeah and somehow all the buoys are lined up perfectly to form a grid.
Yeah and uhhh alien navy ships.
If you think about the name of the movie and the classic table game of battleship and electronic battleship it makes sense to use a grid (chart plot).
There are, in fact, many Ysunami buoy's out there in the oceans
@@ronniehooperjr1 Also, the enemy weapons look like the little pins from the board game.
People debating the reality of things like missiles and sensors, I am just wondering why they would stop the ship as opposed to turn it 😂
This movie reminded me of Solider with Kurt Russell. Had zero plot, but it was entertaining.
You think Soldier had zero plot? ...bro, what? It was literally about genetically modified soldiers outclassing veterans trained from birth, and how casually the higher command discarded those those veterans onto a literal planet filled with garbage - a metaphor for the treatment of veterans integration into real life. THIS movie was about nothing. Soldier was not.
@@RegularDude Soldier had no plot. It was a backdrop to one person fighting a group of people with guns and ingenuity. This movie had no plot. It was a backdrop to shoot people with ships. There's no fundamental story --- just enough background fluff to make it entertaining. Both movies have eye candy women to distract you from the fact that, in essence, the entire movie has no plot.

If only the ID4 sequel had been this good.
Anyone knocking the movie I have to say this is one of the best renditions of my childhood imagination while playing battleship I could think of.
The JPJ is such a spectacular instrument of war.
Nitpick: They depict firing Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMS), but that's not the purpose of that weapon, nor can it be targeted and launched so quickly. The correct weapon would be a blind-fired Harpoon Anti-Ship Missile (ASM), though you could point your fire control radar at the location you want to hit and have a SM-1 Standard Missile in surface-to-surface attack mode "ride the beam" to the location. You wouldn't be able to target two locations at the same time, though.
Still a fun movie, even if it offends the Strike Warfare Officer of yesteryear that still resides within me.
Underrated movie
I still don't get how some people kept trying to find the imperfections and inaccuracies of this movie. If a former navy admiral loved this movie, you should try to enjoy it too
really love this movie
ship drift
Tomahawks are radar guided and with active seeker and they dont miss the target unless active protection system of the opponent is not fired.
the tomahawk used on this movie is the land attack variant, the anti-ship variant is phased out in the '90s
I love this movie it's interesting
Imagine you’re an alien, with shield tech and a blistering arsenal of ships and weapons…
A slight gust of wind sends your missile off course as it’s flip tumble weed design literally doesn’t take wind resistance into account
And…did the Navy forget they had subs?
Subs still can’t pass through the shield dome
1. The technology the aliens have were designed on their planet. The conditions would have been different.
2. Blistering arsenal of ships and weapons" "I'm sure there was only like 1 type of alien ship in the movie lmao

I love how she magically determined that they have "four hours" before the aliens magically establish communication. Wouldn't that be rather instant?
@paul Provenzano How did said scientist know the time that the satellite uplink would occur? Does he read their programming language written in their obvious foreign language as seen from the cockpit of the ship? There's no way that they could know that.
They lost there communication ship earlier in the movie so they have 4 hours cause there using the satillite uplink that only comes around at a specific time of day
Man. U guys don't pay attention. That nerd knew when the up link time was going to take place. It's not hard for her to say hey, it's 2 am, the up link is at 6. That's in 4 hours.
@@dickie804 Such an advanced civilization would have their own satellite to deploy or use ships around the Earth as relays. Their programming language would not be compatible with the signals sent by our own satellites.
Those aliens still wonder what happend to their recon party. Last message received said "planet inhabited by armed to the teeth, huge steel monsters that can float on water, do NOT recommend to send settlement party"

Yess lets go and now is time to use battleship uss missouri for final battle
Consider the flying time, shouldn't Nagata order to pre fire a bit earlier? Like the hardest part should be him estimates the time the 2 alien ship half way to the next point, not when them trigger the sensor.
They tried it the scene before, ending up not hitting

Looks like a good movie.
enjoying this movie requires one to actually just turn off their brain and go "yay explosions, aliens, and cool futuristic gun" and look no deeper.
Great movie 🎥
I enjoyed it.
I wonder why the Navy didn’t fire these missiles during their first encounter with the aliens when they were all in plain sight. Instead, they took pot shots with one cannon per boat.
Four hours. No pressure!
Oh shit, hit sir hit!!
The alien weapon looks like the board game pegs!
I like watch this movie
I would eat a chicken burrito for that too.
i would like to see a sequel of this movie...but it sort of bombed at the box office...but i really love the Missouri battle ship stuff
That was a good movie, but left you hanging with the anticipation of a 2nd movie that never came.
It did good over seas but bombed in USA. So they maybe dropped the idea.
I'm still not sure if Hollywood trying to make a movie out of the game 'Battleship' was a desperate gasp and show they were running out of ideas, or just someone coming up with a fun idea and Holywood's current obsession with grimderp sucking all the fun out of it.
Cool, good. Yeo the satellites.
this movie was way more entertaining than it had any right to be.

What happens if water-skaters evolved to space travel...
1番カッコイイシーン✨
Im surprised that many didnt know that this movie was based on true story
Only one problem they used creative license with how long to fire up the engines on the mighty Mo. It takes much, much longer to even think about engine startup, especially if any battleship is now a museum. If you want more info check out the video clips for the battleship New Jersey, lots of informative clips on many subjects. Timeline for startup? try at least four to six months to reconnect, unblock things, and replace critical components removed by the US Navy.
Big Mo laid out an ass whipping well worth watching just for that.......
Proof u gotta go lan line and gears against alien technology
They made alien so stupid.. got the technology to travel between stars but jump on sea? And throw bombs like human? It's like super high tech but fighting using sword. Anyway it's just movie
Not to mention how they can shield off an entire area but not their own ships.
Read someone say somewhere that these were mining or scout ships so those big dum ball things were drones and the ships werent really for fighting? It makes the whole thing make a little more sense
A film about aliens attacking Hawaii isnt realistic enough? Maybe the film Pearl Harbor is more for you?
@@KChow-nb1pz That's the headcanon I've come to accept since it makes a lot more sense and does frame the incident as a first contact gone wrong (and handled by idiots), the only part that doesn't quite fit the theory is them launching the ball things into the populated area but the rest fits the idea that the aliens were non-military and probably miners to a T imo.
@Daniel Hutahaean true lol
Dayum they got destroyed yo
An advanced alien invasion wouldn't be using jet propelled ordinance like our primitive human culture depicted in this movie. It comes across more like a hour + long high tech commercial for the U.S. Navy.
Cruise missiles are subsonic.
very2 like movies
I love this Film, but.. do you really think that an advanced extraterrestrial civilization that come to Earth from far in the space, can be beaten from a '40s warship ?
yes, yes I do... you know why? cuz Murica, that’s why. jk, but i mean actually the aliens in this movie don’t really understand what we have weapons wise. I mean they have tech that recognizes weapons and hostility, but they don’t fully understand what we actually got. That helps. Also, human ingenuity and creativity is astonishing. So I’m sure that helps make up for the tech gap
@@theowagnon7877 You think that an alien mind has inferior ingenuity and creativity when they can engineer complex shield tech, interstellar flight and more?
Also they clearly knew what we have got, they immediately shut down all military installations in the proximity.
The movie is simply stupid and not logical in that regard. Otherwise we would have no chance at all.
Still a great movie if you dont try to analyze it xD
Having better technology does not necessarily mean you will win a war. The U.S. did not prevail in the middle-east or in Vietnam and Germany did not prevail in WW2.
@@maxschulz6185 why do people always have to assume that aliens are smart? what if they're on the same level of intellect as us, or even worse? as long as people still keeping this mindset, it's gonna be a long way until any form of space colonization actually gonna happen.

My question is how the hell does earth tech beat alien tech
Its dumb enough that the aliens lost their communications array due to a satellite colliding with it.
So I guess they had a weakness to kinetic weapons? (without their almighty shield tech, which they strangely dont use for when they fly through space?)
But the more sensible answer would be plot armor and that its the kind of movie where you leave your brain at home, when watching it.
