- In this study vlog, I bring you along a hectic week in my life where I prepare for a quiz (but it's actually a short midterm lol), study at the library, finish many assignments, and go to school for labs. Hi Eve, I want a little suggestion from you. I want to solve examples for mathematics, physics and programming courses. Can you tell us about the methods you use for this? Also, the season has just begun for me. How do you think I should proceed? Your video was very nice. It motivates me🤍
I'm assuming you mean the methods I use to solve problems for these types of classes, but let me know if your question was something else. Also, this isn't an efficient method by any means - it's a lengthy process BUT the payoff is fantastic. I personally never have to review a concept once I go through this because it makes the knowledge "mine", if that makes sense. The whole thing is based on "encoding" the theory rather than learning by heart.
For physics, maths, elec, and any other courses of the like, you really need to understand your formulas and their variables. These subjects all have similar methodology. If you read a physics problem, for example, you should be able to determine which formula to use based on the quantities given and what we want to measure. You shouldn't need to think too hard about it. It's similar for maths - for a given equation, you should be able to quickly determine which theorem to use. You should write down a list of steps to follow and use them to solve each problem. Also, draw. Drawing the problems out is super underrated.
I usually start by solving the problems assigned by my profs, and I usually verify my answer after finishing each question. If I got it wrong, I look for a solution online and read it thoroughly and compare it to what I wrote. My goal is to understand exactly what I messed up, and why I did so. Once I'm done comparing, I close that online solution and redo the problem. Usually, I'll get it right on the second try but if not, it means I'm missing a crucial piece of information and must read up on it a bit more. For this, I'll start by browsing to the correct textbook's subsection and read through it. If it's still confusing, I'll look up the topic and read up on it, or watch a video. Then, I'll try solving the problem once more. If I still can't get it right, I'll look up the problem on CZcams so I can listen to someone explaining what they're thinking as they approach it. In other words, I loop around the same problem until I can solve it correctly by myself. It honestly takes me way too long to do this, but I find it worth my time since the theory is engraved into my brain after I'm done with this whole process. Also, I don't usually need to repeat each problem more than once, so it's not as bad as it looks 😅
