I’ve been watching Buffy recently for the first time and SPIKE is an absolute meal
The main thing I remember from 9/11 was the giant divide amongst teachers about whether they allowed kids to watch the news, if they continued with lessons, or if they spoke about it without the visuals. I remember one teacher turning it off when they realized that news coverage was filming people jumping to their death. Another looked at us and said, "I know it's scary, but we live in a bunch of corn fields. They're not coming for you here." It was a heavy day for 6th grade me. I knew enough that life was going to be different; I had zero scope for how badly things would fall apart over the next 20 years.
I could have typed the same comment. Had a teacher make a similar comment about how we all live in the middle of no where, and I remember thinking to myself, plain as day:
"But what if they did..."
