  • Ride with us through the spectacular, rock walled Shell Canyon in Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains. Starting in Shell we follow Highway 14 as it twists and turns through Shell Canyon, we make a quick stop at Shell Falls and then we continue our ascent of the Burgess Mountains. After crossing 9,033' high Granite Pass we arrive at Burgess Junction in the heart of the Bighorn Mountains. 32 spectacularly beautiful miles along Wyoming's Bighorn Scenic Byway.
    Pour yourself a drink, crank up the volume, sit back, and enjoy the ride.
    Featuring Sean Ashby's songs "Somewhere To Go" and "Gone"

    I took that route while out west from Ontario Canada several years ago. I was riding east to west so opposite from this video. I managed to ride the entire journey on 2 laners only. 200 across from Minnesota then 14 and Alt 14 and beyond. Awesome scenery with a great road across it.

    Remember this road from back in 2012, a very hot August day. From the lush forest on the east side to Meadows at the top of the mountain and down into the bare rock canyons and then desert like prairie. Got into Greybull and only place to cool off was the local bar. A very nice lady brought us lots of ice water. Had lunch and then headed to Cody.

      It is a great road! And after a great ride it is always fun to find a local, out of the way place for a rest and maybe a bite, seems like they are always such nice people at those kind of places. Cody has a lot of great places to visit as well, although it is beginning to lose its "local" charm as it has become more and more popular, and busy. But the Prime Rib buffet at the Irma and The Dan Miller Cowboy Music Revue are so worth the visit to Cody.

      Hi Gene, Thanks for watching.
      I have ridden the route you describe but in reverse order. We started in Durango, then up to Silverton, Million Dollar Highway, Ouray, and eventually finishing up in Cortez. I do have CZcamss of that ride!
      Stay tuned, there is more to come!

      It is the season.....to edit videos if you are so inclined, we just got another 6 inches here too. A video is a great way to save and share the memories.

      I don't think so Wade. I have done all three routes, 14, 14A, and 16, and I think each route is pretty spectacular in their own way. I guess that is just one more reason for you to travel out west again, check each out for yourself.
      You know it doesn't matter whether you ride or drive, as long as you are having fun. Get out there and do it!

      Thank you.
      I do try to give enough information to make it easy for the viewer to look into the ride a little more if they are interested. I have been hotelling it, but with the prices getting higher in many places I may have to reconsider that.

      Shell Canyon is pretty spectacular. We spent a night in a motel in Cody and then on to Gillette. Riding two up we really have no room for camping gear.

    Hi again, enjoyed your video, did you stay at Bear Lodge

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  Před 6 lety

      I think you are referring to Bear Lodge in Dayton, and then the answer would be no. We arrived in Gillette the day we filmed this ride. Dayton did look like a really nice little town to check out, generally the kind of little town we enjoy staying in.

      @easyglide301 Před 6 lety +1

      There is a Hotel/Motel also called Bear Lodge at Burgess Junction stayed there a few times, used a lot by bikers, The ride over Bald Mountain on rout 14 A to Lovell is also great as long as not foggy. Ride Safe.
