Brought back memories of times past when my husband used to boom the hay onto the truck....years ago

@WIWinterman They usually have an old cars differential and some engine to power it.
When right axle slows down with a brake on it left starts pulling and the hook rope is lifting the bale up. Pulling speed and strength is variable of the brake slipping, when the brake is fully released the rope drum runs freely so the hook can be returned and same thing again brake the other axle and rope drum will pull the bale up.
Sorry if the explanation is confusing

Hey, great...thanks. Dad spend 40 years hauling hay first from Bakersfield, and then Imperial Valley. That's real work.

I ran a boom for many years in the Chino Valley, and loaded some in Imperial and Blythe. The guys in the video are in no hurry, but we used to put on 400 bales weighing 140 pounds each in about 50 minutes.

Boom guy I think is Bill Fernandez? I used him several years ago in imp valley.
He was the last guy with a boom. He had a 75 watt light bulb at the top swayin away.
    Bulbs are gone too!

Now that is a hell of a lot easier than throwing bales by hand.

I used to boom on Everytime I went to Blythe and Parker haven't been back in years but back then squeezes weren't allowed or that's what I was told anyway.

Someone commented that they werent loading for money they wanted to do it old way, for fun and for maintenance of machines.
I believe that they have plenty of machines, but are wealthy enough that some times they can take little more time to do a job

Nice! How does that cable/hook thing work? Is it on a spring, tensioned? Do you have a winch on it for lift control?

    What you mean?
How there is posibility to get more hay on? I don´t see any free space on truck bed and I bet there is no opening in the pile.
