Everything after 5:10 when Trey yells "Hey Mike...stay on F" is when the rocket "trip" you're on finally hits outer space after launching from earth and leaves looking back at earth (and all her beauty) from 100 miles up in the vastness of space wondering how in the hell am I ever going to get back there...and then, you suddenly realize... the question is not how am I going to get back...but, why in the hell would I ever want to go back!!! I'm not a die hard Phish fan, but I saw them a half a dozen times in 92-96 and I had a ton of respect for them (still do). I always felt like I was amongst family. God bless you all!!!
Beautiful vocals....my sweet dear greatest man, just sent me this as I sit with my mom in hospital. So lucky to have such a wonderful, caring friend ❤️
Wasn’t he one of the first, I guess “bigger” guitarists to use the boomerang live? Either way he makes magic with it and that digitech pitch shifter...makes it sound so organic and not like a digital looped effect..beautiful
One of the most magnificent jams Phish has ever done. Fucking glorious!!!! That whole weekend was so much fun. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
This is one of those jams where your friend, who has never seen Phish before, turns to you at about the 12 minute mark and asks, "What songs is this?" And the only right answer is "This song."
LOL at me for going to Hampton 95, 96, and then 98. I really blew it 97 and only saw one (at least it was winston salem!) I'd have traded BOTH nights of that 98 hampton run for just this one night of 97. Why didn't I go???? Probably had some stupid exam I was worried about at the time, and I certainly don't remember what it was now 17 years later. But i would have remembered this show had i been! Let that be a lesson to all you college kids now - if PHiSH is playing, just go. Just go cuz you need to for your soul. It's more important than that exam, trust me.
I had a calc 2 final the day of Trey's acoustic/electric tour. (What was that, 99?) I remembered my tickets, to leave from the exam straight to the venue, forgot my calculator. Got a D in the class, and had to take it over. Would do it again and again to be able to see Trey belt out PYITE acoustic from 10feet away. I still get the chills remembering the energy that room had.
The human sacrifice part of the show? Such an amazing night. I went to every show they've ever played at Hampton going back to 95' and this one was hands down the best.
I wish Chris had this lighting setup and did more mood-based scenes like this. I think it makes the music MUCH more fucking intense and impactful, rather than having all sorts of changing strobing scenes blinking and waving around during every fucking jam.
A fuckin delight indeed. Epic. This was the year of my first show. I remember being so blown away by the light rig...and now. Good lord it's the golden age of lighting.
Mike and Trey chase each other through some nice modulations while Trey has the octave effects on......fall 97 was so good. Hartford 11-26-97 was one of the best shows I ever saw.
this album is a must own. It has one of my favorite Mikehydrogepaug's, Bag's, and Punch's on it, and of course this comet soars like a chunk of cosmic phunk!
Reading the book Heads by Jesse Jarnow... tells the story of this song Look up this jam as it's been awhile since I listened. And its 11/22, which is today 😉
So funny watching Trey at around the 15:30 mark strumming his guitar, in a trance like state playing it like kid thinking look what I could do as he's making these big circles each time he strums it
Damn I miss the music when they got F#cked up, shit was on a entirely different level!! Say what you may just facts 💯 Hampton was insane, a glorious time indeed!!
I was lucky enough too see this band 3 times in 97 Ventura and 2 Denver shows. From 93 to 03 Trey was the baddest man on the planet along with Pat Metheny and Warren, Ed W from Ozric. Just 1 man oppion.
This song was not written by any member of phish. It is in fact a cover song written by a friend of the guy who does their art work. A person who went by the name of Nancy when the song was written.
I’ve played in jam bands that would stop jamming cause the music was “too dark” “not funky enough” “a soundscape, we are musicians” and even though most all of them were far better musicians than me, they never were able to do the things that happened when I got together with my friends who weren’t “musicians” and just played for fun at spaghetti night with our other friends....those jams went to places that brought things out of us which did not come from us and we had no business playing as they were just too far beyond our respective talents and skills...there were times when we would all change at the same time into something so cohesive you would think we had spent time rehearsing it and had some form of signal to let each other know we were gonna go into it...but no it just happened, and the less any of us cared about the direction of the music and just started following the music instead of each other or a song or a riff or a genre or whatever...well let’s just say these guys are right when they talk about music coming through them instead of from them. It’s magic and if everyone on earth would spend at least one evening every couple weeks jamming with there friends...whether they are a “musician” or care about music thee rest of the time...I doubt there would be so much division and hatred in our “modern” world
Amen. Can really relate to this as a musician- far too few are willing to truly 'surrender to the flow', and never let go of the reins and just see what happens. Trying to stuff creativity in a box almost always snuffs it out. Some of the most powerful moments of my life have come tired, worn out, without a single care for how the music sounded, and simply just let it be what it was gonna be. And often, in my experience, what it is is better than anything I could make with a specific intention.
I love meatballs, Cadillacs, and rainbows, not sure what I'd do if you ate my kazoo, never had that happen to me, but my dog thinking he was the central theme in the everlasting spoof ate my tennis shoe once and can say it wasn't a glorifying feeling

Well put
Your spaceship is about to blast off 🚀
How could 24 people not like this??
Best Haley’s ever without question. Top 10 jam and show all time.
Probably just assholes who like to diss Phish. F--k 'em. More for us!
I'm not sure which is better, this one or Greatwoods '99. They're unreal
Running Man419 So high level
12-7-99 would like a word
Beautiful vocals....my sweet dear greatest man, just sent me this as I sit with my mom in hospital. So lucky to have such a wonderful, caring friend ❤️
"Hey Mike.....Stay in 'F'". -The Bad Lieutenant One of the greatest musical decisions ever made.
That it is- after hearing this hundreds of times I really just caught that!
Amazing instincts by Jon to stay in F also
trey is god. love this comment
please timestamp when that goes down
@@1w45nth3r3 right around 5 mins
Is there anything better than hearing that trey siren loop and knowing he's about to go off?
+Brendan Murtagh
funk siren reooor reoor
YES TO THAT. The Ultimate Excitement
No sir, there isn't. Goose bumps just thinking about it.
Wasn’t he one of the first, I guess “bigger” guitarists to use the boomerang live? Either way he makes magic with it and that digitech pitch shifter...makes it sound so organic and not like a digital looped effect..beautiful
I freaking loved the siren loop during those years! I called them the hypno jams!
Nothing like a Phish crowd in the 90’s
We were good.
97 was such a great year! ❤ 🐠
Definitely in the top 10 of “best” phish jams.

Wow, can't believe this video's out there! One of my top 5 favorite Phish jams of all time.
5:06 WELCOME TO THE FUNK
god bless this band
This is one of those jams where your friend, who has never seen Phish before, turns to you at about the 12 minute mark and asks, "What songs is this?" And the only right answer is "This song."
why we love phish xxx
I love you.
The right answer is what is song is this not?
This is one of those jams at about the 12:00 min mark I jump outta my body turn to myself and ask what song is this again🫠

You can make up an exam, but you can’t make up an 11/22/97 Phish show!
that Winston show’s Divided Sky was straight 🔥
Luckily I went to all the 90’s Hampton shows. Haven’t seen them since!
Lol, this is supremely bad advice, but I can't say wouldn't make the same decision.
Who would've known....seeing Phish in the 90s....just magical ✨️ "But im never going back there, and i couldn't if i tried"
Treys tone in the winter of 97 is truly immaculate
21:56 Goosebumps. Every time.
The human sacrifice part of the show? Such an amazing night. I went to every show they've ever played at Hampton going back to 95' and this one was hands down the best.
The little riff at 19:29 brings a tear to my eye. So good.
97 was a freaking awesome year for Phish! I always loved Trey’s loop, I called them hypno jams!
Doesn't get much better than this from around the 5:10 mark. Thanks for posting.
literally man i cannot refrain from grooving. STAY IN "F"! :)
Man, the ending is nothing without Page. He makes it.
I totally agree with his last note is heartbreaking and beutiful
Was there. I forget if it was 97 or 98 when they had the most amazing crowd wave. I was trippin balls with this wave coming at me!!
Will Dansby I know 99' had a huge pre show wave that went on for a while. It was messing with me cause I was tripping balls as well. Lol
Will Dansby the wave was great! wrapped around a bunch of times
That was this show!! The wave went by like 20 times...
97 was the bestest yearz and this iz partz of it...thank you 😘🧠🐉🤔🧙🏼♂️🔮🛸
Thanks for posting.... These two nights were amongst the best of my life!
yes they were
Quarantine has me jonesing so hard for experiences like this in person.
19 years ago today ... I was there!
same!
Me too!
25 years ago today ... I'm still alive to tell the tale, LOL!
21:50 to 22:30 is the most powerful segment of music I’ve ever heard.
I was there. The week b4 my 21st bday. Crazy.
I listen to these shows for 25 years non stop and there is n0thing to say .... nothing except to think to hit replay!!!! It's always worth it!
Isn't it wild....time and all❤ Simultaneously yesterday and a million years ago.
Thanks, I'll be listening to this daily for the next few weeks
Favorite song and jam. Great way to start the day, thank you Phish. At least you make this tube fun
The mother ship is orbiting
I wish Chris had this lighting setup and did more mood-based scenes like this. I think it makes the music MUCH more fucking intense and impactful, rather than having all sorts of changing strobing scenes blinking and waving around during every fucking jam.
AGREED
I agree! I was recently thinking how it would be nice to have a show without any lighting effects at all
+Ramsay Gray Jazzfest 2014 was sick and in the middle of the day
+Ramsay Gray Jazzfest 2014 was sick and in the middle of the day
+Gumbo72203 absolutely. the lights were so completely symbiotic with the music back then and really made the entire experience that much deeper.
Thanks for the upload. Premium type II jamming right here.
im speechless. just a silent woah is all i can muster
I'm damn proud to be named after Trey.
Hey Mike...stay on F
::Nods approvingly::
This entire show is fire!!!
My gosh what a ride that was ....
A fuckin delight indeed. Epic. This was the year of my first show. I remember being so blown away by the light rig...and now. Good lord it's the golden age of lighting.

You had to be there… But eating tabs in front of my computer monitor is a close second
this album is a must own. It has one of my favorite Mikehydrogepaug's, Bag's, and Punch's on it, and of course this comet soars like a chunk of cosmic phunk!
Another favorite!
I used to lose my shit during this! Lost my molly at a new year's show, jumped right out of my pocket in 2000!
loooooooooove!!!
how does this only have 2,541 views?
I feel bad for people who don’t know/don’t enjoy Phish.

Today is the 20th anniversary of this very special show! Mark, Todd, Dan, Old School Jake, and myself! The best show ever.....

Brendan Murtagh Are you saying "boo" or "boo-urns"?
Jonathan Speakman I was saying “boo-urns”
I love page at the end of this jam with trey tone
the barbershop band of my youth!!
best JAM EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Christopher Cassata not even best Halleys
What’s the best then?
@@moheganson All Halley's jams come from this version! This is the uber version hands down!@
bojack CCCC Halley’s is a worthy contender
Nice....thanks.
A really unique jam. The band hits a minor chord after the last verse, and just hangs on it for like 20 mins.
Hey Mike, stay on F.
one of mans greatest decisions
So funny watching Trey at around the 15:30 mark strumming his guitar, in a trance like state playing it like kid thinking look what I could do as he's making these big circles each time he strums it
I still like the 99 Portland Maine Halleys
Me to is that the 12-7-99 version
at the show...great memories
slow, patient phish is best phish
FIRE!!
I was there.
A+
I would argue that this is actually a Type III
joemikehunt What would that imply? I dont think Ive ever heard that term before
I would say so too, they go from F major to F minor so it’s a completely different feel
Ba Ba Ba jingo
I love mikes vocals in the beginning. It adds so much flavor to song. I wonder if that was his idea
It’s a cover song a friend of there’s wrote
Fish's right foot was so tight & groovy in Fall 97
yowza, gem indeed!
Damn I miss the music when they got F#cked up, shit was on a entirely different level!! Say what you may just facts 💯 Hampton was insane, a glorious time indeed!!
Page is a hero of this jam to me also
What is there NOT to love about this ❤️🤟🌹✌️

So funny so see what the rocketship looks like before it lifts off - you'd never think that thing could fly but holy hell it does
The Halley's
Fishman towards the very end of this jam is God
Master groove.
A++++
the guitar fir at 20:30 is the best I've ever heard. What amazing improv.... it blows my fucking mind.
Does the whole show exist? Would love to get my hands on it. Thanks for sharing this.
It's on spotify
Phish.in. its there along with all the other shows.
why arent there a million views here?
cuz most of society doesnt have patience for a jam this long
L O V E This
Mmmmmm....90’s Trey. Fucking delicious!
Halley's Comet, I-said-a Halley's Comet
How could you know that I lived in a desperate world?
How could you dream that we were all made out of stone?
What is the truth, what is the faithful lasting proof?
What is the central theme to this everlasting spoof?
Knock on my windows, link up the chains
It's gotta be easy, no splinters no pain
It's Cadillac rainbows and lots of spaghetti
And I love meatballs so you better be ready
I'm going down to the central part of town
I'm going down to the central part of town
Central part of town, I'm going down
I'm going down to the central part of town
Halley's Comet, I-said-a Halley's Comet
What did I do?
And don't be blamin' eat my cashew
For everything I do to get the story
And everything I do to pull me in
And everything I say to get the title
But when they use it on me I reject it
What would you do if you ate my daddy's shoes?
What would you say if it was naturally for you?
How would you feel if it rained on ???
How would you like to have your thick strawberry goo?
I'm sinking down, it's a glorious feeling
To make a big difference, my body is reeling
Even Carl Sagan can't shine my shoes
'Cause I know deep inside it's got to ???
(mighty fine something)
I'm going down to the central part of town
I'm going down to the central part of town
I'm going down to the central part of town
I'm going down to the central part of town
