Baekhyun is a main vocalist in EXO and since debut has had a history of using extreme dieting to control his weight. He is very determined and once he sets his mind to something, will sometimes to to unhealthy methods to achieve his goals.
it's sad to see that it took six years for him to realize that he doesn't need to diet that hard :(

a hard pill to swallow but it has to be said:
baekhyun has always had self esteem and confidence issues, to the point where he would constantly belittle himself against everyone else. he just wants to be perfect, which is understandable since the entertainment industry has extremely unrealistic standards when it comes to the way idols look. even though there hasn’t been any significant changes in his weight for over two years still doesn’t mean he fully recovered from this. he still scrutinises himself one way or another. don’t let his bright, carefree and outgoing personality and ethereal visuals fool you into thinking that he doesn’t go through hardships with the way he sees himself. he is such a lovely person with only good things to offer to everyone that surrounds him, and i only want the best for him at all times. hopefully he can see himself the same way we, as fans, see him.
i keep re-reading this and am yet to find a lie
baekhyun seems to be someone who hides their thoughts (if they arent happy thoughts) ane struggles. Just look at the exploration concert where chanyeol made a video for the exos, in the reactions of him you can see that he has tears in his eyes too yet he jokes around later on and comforts junmyeon and sehun who where crying or whenever the exos cried on stage, baekhyun tries not to cry because he feels bad but the staff said he would cry behind the stages. I believe that baekhyun has a lot of struggles that he likes to hide behind his cheerful personality. And i truly believe that all the hate he gets is part of the reason why he does that.
He always tries to make other people happy and fit their likings but he gets a lot of hate by knets which results him in struggling.
I hope he knows the exos and exols are with him, even his non celebrity friends are sticking along since high school and seem to support him a lot. I hope he knows that he's not alone, that he is allowed to struggle and most important also allowed to struggle.

I agree- he constantly downplays his achievements, talents and lifts the other members up. He holds his emotions back to comfort them and brings the mood up even when sad. My poor bby 😔
those videos of him stumbling and almost fainting on stage are truly heartbreaking. this is why i got so pissed at a comment i saw the other day that said "skinny baekhyun is a blessing"... no sweetie, it's not a blessing, it's the end result of mental suffering and self-inflicted physical abuse
actually on that particular day, there was a horrible heatwave that not only affected all the members and not just baekhyun. other than that, i agree with you.
@@kyooongie ah, I didn't know that! It certainly played a part, but to me it looks like the other members aren't as badly affected as baekhyun, maybe because he was already weaker from the start due to malnutrition. Can't be 100% sure though.

Baekhyun needs someone to boost his confidence. When someone says he's handsome he doesn't take them seriously, when suho told him he's at the 4th place in the visual ranking he was so shocked like he couldn't believe it and when they went to that show in wolf era I think they ranked the last in terms of visuals so little things affect him wihtout us noticing. I think this happened back in 2017 he asked some fans should he remove his makeup before the fansign and they told him no and they said they don't like it. It may seem like a joke but knowing baekhyun he takes everything we say about him seriously that's why we rarely see his face without makeup bc he's shy. Also saesang always spam his phone saying no one will like him if he doesn't dye his hair a specific colour etc...and a couple of days ago chanyeol said baekhyun is back exercising like crazy but I'm not sure if I should be worried, I think he knows what's wrong and what's right by now so I hope he's doing it in a healthy way. Being not confident is literally the worst thing ever, I feel the same way so I know how he feels. No matter what people tell him if he won't start loving himself he won't change his habits. Tho I've see that he's been better since 2018-2019 so I hope he's satisfied with himself.

B there was recently an article about him going to a fansign bare face. So much positive comments everyone said he looks so good and how he looks like young debut baekhyun. So true he never ages anyway i was so glad to see a korean article about him saying good stuff about his appearance. So happy to see himself being confident too after all these years
also not to mention how baekhyun went batshit crazy when monster era was ranked 1st place on bbhduce, when in reality that was mostly not the case. a lot of stans voted for his exordium dot look because his black hair and the overall styling back then was superior, but he just had to assume that we wanted him to lose weight :( like you said, he seems to be doing a lot better as opposed to 2014-2017, but obviously we don’t know the full story. he’s the sweetest, most beautiful and the most talented person i have ever laid eyes on, and i just want the best for him.

I feel like you should have also mentioned his “scandals” in 2014. Dating snsd leader taeyeon (still to this day considered the biggest dating scandal in Korea) and his underage drinking picture that was discovered and blew up. SM Entertainment acknowledged that it was in fact Baekhyun in the pictures. The agency stated, "It was thoughtless behavior. He is reflecting on it with an apologetic heart." Even the old chat talk with comments insulting the appearances of girls generation members but this turned out to be fake and made by haters to further ruin his character but it was too late, he was attacked for it. Maybe even the not bowing to 2ne1 when they won on inkigayo, and instead walking off to follow Taeyeon, he got cursed out for that. It was ‘scandal’ after scandal literally.
Honestly 2014 was so hard for him, i remember him breaking down crying in his musical, i remember the petition to remove him from exo, the fans that yelled traitor at him while he was a MC at inkigayo and petitioning to remove him from there too, his musical tickets being refunded, the musical that he worked so hard for, the thousands of fans that left the fanclub exo claiming he lied and decieved them (because he said he wouldnt date until hes 30). he got cursed out when people found out the day Kris left, Baekhyun was on a date with taeyeon. The clues and hints on his and taeyeons instagram that they were dating was figured out and more hate. Honestly theres still much more that I’m missing out.
After a while he released an apology that he kept rewriting over and over because he didnt want it to sound like he was making excuses but he deleted it 6 hours later because the comment section was just filled with hate. People yelling at him to leave exo. If you was in kpop back then in 2014 yall would know it was such a hellish year for him and the hate comments he got was by the thousands.
Honestly still to this day he never opened up about 2014, the hardships he went through. Ofc he doesnt owe us or anyone anything. Just makes me wonder how awful it must have been for him, the emotional pain... honestly yall being an idol in Korea is so ridiculously restricting.

Some people are just sick in the head and can just be so disgusting to talk down to a person who has feelings like any other normal human. I just read about Sulli a k-pop Star from f(x) who died in 2019 due to hanging herself because of cyber bullying. Humans are just truly terrifying...

He has that type of body which naturally slim, but also hard to gain muscle. Thats why its hard to have abs for him
I have that type of body too. People always say that I am slim ( cause I am ), but I barely have muscles and I work out. Everyday I am getting closer and closer to a six pack.

He doesn't have a slim body type, in growl he gained weight and a fan took a picture of his stomach on a performance and since there he obsessed with loosing weight, he used to be a bit chubby and he said so in old interviews. He pushed himself beyond the limit to get skinny and I'm hope he can overcome that insecurity and stay healthy, cause those behaviors are difficult to stop.
Hmm I actually think he pushes his body to seem like 'naturally slim' but he actually does keep weight in his hips and thighs (my body is the same. I had to lose an extreme amount of weight to get the thin thighs/thigh gap I wanted and was extremely underweight for a while.) But Baekhyun was constantly surrounded by naturally very slim, athletic members. Sehun, Kai and Chanyeol in particular were naturally tall and slim, plus Chen and Suho are actually quite 'petite' framed before gaining muscle. It must have been hard for Baek and Xiumin to be constantly compared to those members (some of whom have the best bodies in Kpop...Sehun and Kai imo). Even in 2020 with SuperM and Kai promotions, Baekhyun still seems very aware and unhappy with his weight and I think he still believes his body during Monster era was the best (even tho he was much too skinny).
Baekhyun and Kihyun give me the same vibes and are almost each other’s counterparts when it comes to many aspects so I’m not surprised they both struggled with their weight and body image too.

Baekhyun is too hard on himself, he has always put on a great dance and vocal performance for fans and his team, he never once let us down. 16:00 interview he looks so nervous talking about his diet bc he knows it's bad :(
He did almost every single one of his nervous ticks. Avoiding eye contact, fake smile, scratching his nose (I think that’s the biggest one). He knows what he’s doing to himself is wrong, but something like dieting isn’t easy to stop so quickly.
Exactly, he's always worked so hard, he was one on the last people to join exo, but is a really good dancer. He has a good vocal but still goes to vocal classes. He tries hard.
Baekhyun made a comment about his weight quite recently when he was in LA with SuperM. I'm glad that the audience reacted in a way that showed him that he didn't need to worry about that, and that they don't care about his weight. Even to this day he's still very skinny, but I'm glad that he seems to be maintaining himself in a fairly healthy way (as far as we know). I hope the best for him and hope that in 2020, he doesn't struggle with this so much. It's going to break my heart if he falls back into old habits again, but they are so hard to break, so let's keep showing him support and encouraging him to stay healthy. He is beautiful the way he is.

I'm sorry. I wasn't going to comment but I remember how he was during superm touring. He DID NOT look healthy at all. Maybe in his promo/professional pictures but definitely not in the normal ones like his own, fan pics and airport pics. He and Kai had lost A LOT of weight and looked so exhausted to the point of looking older and sickly.
His cheeks were hollow and the dark circles under his eyes were worrying. Both him and Kai were not doing okay during their tour with superm.
The way he looked during monster-lotto was the most worrying. I feel like fans also played a huge part of Baekhyun maintaining his healthy weight for the last two years. A lot of us always try to remind him that it's okay to eat, and to eat a lot, be it at fansign or concerts whenever he brings up diet issues. I remember that he mentioned wanting to go back to monster era last year, but a lot of the fans were against it as we all like nutella baekhyun more haha he did say it gets hard to dance when he gains weight, but I hope he won't be too hard on himself. the baekhyun now is the bestt

This is a cultural thing in Korea people diet all the time and somehow it is almost normalized, no infact praised when someone says they went on a "diet" that consisted on not eating anything. So when idols describe their starvation "diets" it is seen as self control and an achievement.
People also have to learn that these are *eating disorder behaviours* and that *MEN CAN HAVE EATING DISORDERS TOO*

i had such a hard time watching him then, it hurt me seeing him do this to himself
I remember when I was new to the fandom. I was watched all the Music videos and clips and I found one of the Lotto showcases. I didn’t even know his name yet, but seeing how tight the belt was around his waist made me worry.
And in 2020 his weight loss process returned. I believe that in the middle of the year he gained a little weight and now towards the end he went back to diet and lost weight. At that time, when he had livestreams, he always commented on his appearance and that he needed to lose weight, that he didn't feel well, that his face was round or his nose was big because he had gained weight.
It is noticeable how sad he is about it
. Whenever someone says how beautiful he is he always denies or does not accept
or think the person is lying,
even if he comments on his funny way, you can see that he suffers.
I am sad for him, he is an incredible person, he makes everyone laugh, he has a wonderful personality and he is beautiful, but he doesn't know that or he doesn't accept it.
And I, being a person diagnosed with persistent depression and anxiety, I know that many times the people who are most hurt on the inside are the ones who smile the most on the outside, precisely to hide their suffering from everyone and themselves.
I am constantly afraid of receiving bad news about Baek, mainly because of not accepting his appearance, or about the crazy "fans", sasaengs.
To try to control my anxiety attacks I always watch Baekhyun's videos because I know he will make me smile.
And yet I always think that even if he makes me better at my problems, he is facing his problems and I can't do anything about it.
If you notice in the livestreams in which he participates, someone always leaves a comment about his appearance or his weight and he will always pay attention and comment specifically on those comments.
I just hope that he has all the necessary support, from family, friends and fans, to face these insecurities.
He always keeps smiling, making jokes, and acts like everything is ok. I am sure behind all those smiles, there's a lot of pain going on. I notice he is very sensitive when it comes to his images. He even talked about how he is scared of his images to be ruined. Idol is a tough job. Watching idols go thru these kinds of stuff makes me feel glad that im not an idol.

I'm so proud of this fandom because we really have grown and learned that those people are human and not idols. He went trough a lot because exo ls liked thin Baekhyun and when he was daiting Taeyeon they got so much hate and that affected them(they both were so thin at that time)
Now we wish they live the kind of life they want, in the way they want and with who they want. This might not mean a big thing for us but for them knowing that we're here unconditionaly it's everything and makes them stand up for themselfes when they are being wronged

I'm pretty sure one of the reasons he dieted this much was because of the type of thyroid he has. You see, with that type, poeple again weight because it has a direct effect on their metabolism. So he probably wanted to avoid gaining weight caused by his thyroid but ended up going too extreme. I'm pretty sure he also developed an eating disorder because of it

I think Baekhyun is really hard on himself sometimes and isn't the type to complain so he won't talk about it often. Since last year he's looking pretty great/ happy. A lot could have to do with since 2017 EXO haven't been coming back every 3-4 months like before so he has more time to rest and take care of himself.

he is the sweetest boy whose talent alone makes him one of the greatest idols of all time. it makes me so sad to see him self conscious about his weight when he is literally perfect.
I really don't know how he does everything!!
During 2020 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I finally understood why I felt the why I did. The ache in my body, the hair loss, the tiredness, the mood swings. And on top of that, the problems to control the weight.
All my life I've been overweight and I always felt bad. Some years ago I decided to change it and I successfully lost 15 kg but, it took me YEARS!! Sometimes, I felt like the only way that I could lose weight was by not eating and well, I wasn't entirely wrong. Since my body is slow because of the condition I could only consume around a 1000 calories a day, if I ate more, all of that became fat.
I see him and now I understand everything that he is going through, I'm struggling with the same condition and it's hard. But at the same time I see him and it motivates me to keep on doing my best every single day, no matter how hard it is.
I was really sad during this video to see him suffering this much. But in the end I´m so proud about the fans. They show him so much love and I think it helps him so much. I like Baekhyun because of his wonderful voice. I always relax when I hear him, so I hope his hard dieting lies in the past and he can love himself again.
Baekhyun is so hardworking and dedicated to making others happy that he lets his self image suffer because of it, he's very hyper aware of his performances and likes to make his fans pleased to a fault. I think that his outward bright and bubbly appearance somewhat masks how self-depreciating and critical he can be. He's an angel and is honestly one of the most genuine and humble idols who has a great connection with his fans and I'm hoping he understands that he doesn't have to be so hard on himself from now on, he deserves the best.
As a fan, it truly was hard to get started on the video because Baekhyun has always been that Angel, fooling you with his bright smile. And, I knew that taking that veil off would be gut-wrenching because he's the type of person you want to protect always. And I also feel guilty for not taking notice because it's Baekyhun and he's always handsome and kind and loving, no matter what. To me, it didn't really matter if he had gained weight or not, but that's clearly not the case for everyone. So I feel really bad about him having to go through all these. But if he is getting on the right track and feeling more comfortable in his own skin, I can only be more hopeful, thankful, and delighted. He's really a precious person, not just an idol, so I do wish things get better for him and the members, always.
After knowing his condition I am looking at this very differently. His condition made “gaining weight” for no reason really easy (puffiness), he had to struggle 🥺😭.

I hated when he had to diet, cuz I love thick baekhyun, his legs look so good when he has his healthy weight. also, he doesn’t need some “sexy abs” his charisma is everything we need. 💛
As of 2020 Baekhyun is maintaining a healthy weight and even though he does diet and exercise he doesn't starve himself and even has cheat days where he will order pizza and chicken. He also snacks on stuff and he has really stopped being so hard on himself I believe. He talks about himself more openly now and shows more confidence in himself. He shows off his mochi cheeks but pinching them and accepts compliments, even though sometime he does still contradict himself and says he knows he's cute while other times doesn't think he's cute at all. He's always battled with weight and there's even a picture online that shows that he said he gains weight super fast and don't quote me but I think within a week he had gained 5kg. He also wanted to grow taller when he was younger and thought he could do that by eating more so he ate lots. I'm one of those fans who always celebrates when his thighs become thick and his cheeks are cute and full, not only because is it adorable but he seems the most happiest at that point. He LOVES food and eating and when he tastes something delicious and can eat it he's happy. I think he's gotten to a point where he's found a really good balance for himself where he can still eat healthy and still eat well along with exercising and be happy with himself. I am so happy when he see's messages that say not to diet or try to lose weight, especially when Korean fans say that because that's huge. It's usually the opposite so it means something more when they can say it to him. He's been through a lot and for people like him (and me) weight is just going to be something we have to deal with the rest of our lives. He's healthy and happy as of now and that's all that matters. I'm forever his fan and his happiness is my happiness.
Baekhyun has even confessed to us through ig lives that he's only eating one meal a day. And you can see how insecure he is not just from his weight but from his looks. I hope he gains security and always stays healthy, I love him so much and he has given us so much that he only deserves good things :((

He has a very well- hidden, mysterious personality. It's really hard for me to understand and solve him through screen cuz i don't know him personally. Even his musical identity is so stealth. Im a three years old EXO-L so i still have much to cover. But as far as im concerned he looked so underweight during lotto era some ppl thought it was okay, like ideal. It's crazy how ppl, industry and society shape us without us knowing. We hurt ourselves, we don't eat, then we overeat, we put make up on, then we do nothing. Either way we are either so extreme or not trying at all. Hope he sees how beautiful, special, precious he is so soon. Hope he sees himself the way i see him. ❤
you forget to put baekhyun during the beginning of 2018 he was gained weight really much that he was even said that his pants size really changed and he ate a lot. plus during blooming day era he starts to losing weight again and maintain it until tempo.
Thank you for making this kind of series. It makes the fans more and more aware about how idols take extreme measures just to please the so-called 'fans' and also how they take our words very seriously.

I notice often people who’ve done it will try to stop others. I remember with BTS Jimin went on an extreme diet and I remember he told Jungkook to gain weight at one point and not diet

On this years vlive for the countdown jimin said he wanted to loose weight which made me worried but then recently he said he actually gain weight and sounded proud of it which made me happy...I hope they all can find a happy medium because these diets they do are so scary :(

It’s sad that even until now, he’s still insecure about his face and weight to the point that it makes me cry seeing him like that, I want to protect him, we all wanna protect him, I love him so much and I hate that some so called “fans” who only cares about his appearance made him feel like that, he doesn’t deserve all the hate at all :( I hope he knows that EXO-Ls are here to love him no matter what he is. Omg this video reminds me how I loved EXO in 2012 when they were all together. I started miss for Luhan and Kris. I feel sorry for Baekhyun he was and still is one of my fav members. When I see how he worked to be perfect and looks perfect just makes me cry.
It is really been a really long journey for the Exo members. I wasn't able to see every part of their change with my eyes but I can still see that their world view is changed a lot. Especially for Chanyeol and Baekhyun. Chanyeol literrally flipped from someone who would joke about stupid things like Nini's skin color to very sensible person who takes care of his members. Baekhyun started to give no fucks to sasaengs and stopped being so obsessed with his body. I am more worried about Sehun right now, he seems to have a drinking and smoking problem. He even said he thinks worries his future a lot and there are other things he must be really stressed about.
What happened with Sehun? I didn't hear anything about it.
Drinking and smoking? Lol don't spread fake rumors like that, he obviously drinks but not like an alcoholic, and there's literally 0 proof of him smoking, if you're talking about his insta pic, he's not that dumb to upload it and not deleting after weeks, he knows smoking could be a scandal, i'm sure it's not his.
@@tengpech2091 Sehun has a serious drinking problem. He drinks starting from 5 pm to morning even Exo hinted that he drinks too much. He even blackouts and complain because he can't drink everyday sounds pretty alcoholic to me. Also I guess you don't know Sehun he likes to hint things and not deleting it. It is his personality, the real problem is not that he drinks or smokes the real problem he is having problems to push him to this extent of trying to get rid of his stress in shitty ways.
You may or not know but Sehun is a pretty anxious person, also he said he thinks about his future a lot these days. He even say he is not feeling like a good person these days. Which is a red flag for me. As a fan you shouldn't swipe this problem under the table but support him and help as you can. At least that's my thinking process but I am open to the new strategies.

University students drink even worse than that here in the UK and you wouldn't call them alcoholics. As long as he is healthy, functions normally without it and is able to do all the things he needs to, I don't think his drinking can be considered a major issue (and I'm a psychology graduate). I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of idols smoke since they're pressured to stay skinny and cigarettes reduce your appetite. Not great but also a life choice.

I’ve been becoming a fan of Baekhyun since I fell for his voice and music. It makes me sad to see him struggling with his weight and appearance. It’s really sad that he does all this to please fans, and recently finding out that he has hypothyroidism makes it even sadder. I hate how the kpop industry puts so much pressure on idols and their looks. Although he is better now, he still belittles himself and isn’t confident. I can’t wait to see him after he completes his military service, I hope that during this break he takes time for himself and come back stronger to us.

yeah baekhyun is very demanding in sm bcos of his amazing vocal ability. so he always have schedule here and there. even now he's back to back with exploration and super m. but since exploration has ended, he has less schedule...

For some reason, I've always remained blind to EXO members' weights. I've never notice a change in their appearance when it comes to weight. Their all naturally skinny/ have worked well to maintain a similar weight since debut. Its amazing honestly.
I know it is weird but as who have clinical chronic social anxiety and depression I find the most depressed people in Exo is Chanyeol and Baekhyun because they hide a lot to make others happy. They have difficulty to share bad things with other people and care too much about irrelevant people's opinions. Think about it they have a difficult time maintaining their weight when they are stressed, they don't go out too much when they have spare time. They always smile on the tv or make people smile generally. Baekhyun doesn't like serious dampen moods or environments which means he feels awkward in those situations so he doesn't know how to deal with it properly. Chanyeol cries quite often, has obvious sleeping problems and depression wrinkles on his face(I am not kidding it is a real sign). Too many warning signs in my opinion.
They really need support and love also they need to know that antis or people who see them only as an object to make themselves happy are irrelevant in their life.

thank you for sharing this. new to kpop bec of exo especially baekhyun and i did notice changes in his facial features like on some his cheeks were plump then on others his cheeks were hollow. that's just how it is in the entertainment industry. he just needs to enjoy his youth, diet and workout for forthcoming concerts, after them he can eat his fave food as much as he wants but he really needs to stick to regular gym workouts. what he needs to really care for is his voice. it is so unique and powerful.
This clip truly broke my heart TT^TT. He is such an amazing person. The korean entertainment industry really puts a lot of pressure on artists, and makes them feel insecure for not a valid reason and damages mentally and phisically. Also, regarding the weight, they dont promote at all a healthy way that implies workout and good food with long term results. They literally make the artists starve themselves in a short period of time. He already has a slim figure, why would you try to push him to lose weight?! It blows my mind.
Can you do one for Kai? He recently said he is the skinniest he has ever been in his life, weight only 61kg for a 183cm male...(during Tempo, Love Shot, SuperM, Obsession era, you can also notice it in Gucci commercial etc, his legs are too skinny )

Some of the insecurities and his weight gain could also be a result of his hypothyroidism, i have the same condition and i know that even when I eat normal i gain weight very easy very fast, i also have go take medicine regularly for it and it has made me very insecure about my body and appearence

As someone who didn’t get into kpop until 2017, with EXO as the first group that caught my attention, this was really eye opening. I was never really aware of the fact that Baekhyun went through so much. It seems to me that he is in a good state of mind now and that makes me very happy. I do think that he might be a bit overworked but it seems like he is enjoying what he’s doing. I hope for nothing but good things in his future 💕

He had been updating us if he wants to lose weight and asking us if we're okay with it. He knows that we hate it when he is skinny and likes if he have mochi cheeks and his signature hips. He would let us understand that his cheecks get so chubby and he feels like he can't move much if he gain weight
