      Thanks Mike. I did 4 years Instructor duty in the AF. That probably helped. 😁

    Good video and great explanations.
    My speedo needs a little love and now I feel confident taking it apart.

    Perfect video. I have a ‘69 that was originally that same green color, and the speedometer is in the exact condition of that one. Looking forward to cracking it open!

    Excellent video. I need to replace the gels on my speedometer and give it a general cleaning. I'm sure your video will cut down on the amount of cussing and thrown tools. Thanks for making this.

    I'm fixing up an old 1969 beetle, for a clean daily driver. I'm really enjoying your videos. They're really well put together, and they help out a lot with taking a good approach to certain little components I've never worked on before.

    This was exactly what I needed. Thanks for the clear and thorough review. I was hoping to find out how to install the needle but the odometer reset, view of the fuel gauge, clarity for how I can remove snd clean the dusty face and replace the gels were super helpful. I’m doing an electric conversion so I’m thinking of replacing the fuel gauge with a state of charge screen.

    I was gonna ask, "what the heck you gonna use to replace the red and green gel?" Now I know you can buy any and all replacement parts.đŸ€Ș😁

    What about removing a 78 super beetle speedometer to replace a burned out generator light?

    • @JayDubCustoms
      @JayDubCustoms  Pƙed 12 dny

      I've never done a 78. And I know there's a lot more stuff behind the dash of a SB. Just jump right in and keep track of how things are removed. 👍

    Have you ever done one from a 74 beetle. The needles is completely different and has a little brass weight behind it that Im not sure how to put back together.

      No, haven't done a 74. Did you get yours back together?

    Looked at the website but nothing on the needles and cost.

    is this something I could have done by shipping my Speedo to you and having you go through it and ship it back? MIne only needs the lens replaced (plastic and scratched), but I figure better to have you go through the whole thing. Let me know if that is something you could do. Thank you. 1973 Type 1 Standard Beetle. (all stock)

      Sorry for the late reply... just got back from SEMA. Yes, I could do that for you. Where are you located? I'll see if I have any good lenses. Send me a few pics of it to my email: jaydubcustoms@gmail.com

    Is there a way to fix the return spring without replacing it from another speedometer?

    • @JayDubCustoms
      @JayDubCustoms  Pƙed rokem

      @lutherolaco2996 I'm not really sure. I've never done that and I guess it would depend on how bad it is. Would probably require some soldering. Sorry I couldn't help.

    He didn't set the last digit to zero. That means the mileage will be completely accurate.

    Very nice work and video Jay! I have a 1977 convertible that has an odometer that stopped. Also the needle wiggles just a bit. I’m looking forward to taking it apart as I now know what to expect. Please keep making these excellent video’s. I really enjoy seeing your precision working on things. I’d love to have you work on my beetle, but I live across the Atlantic

    I have a speedo my buggy build it is complete, I will need to replace the film for the turn signals and Oil, Gen. The other issue I have is I do not have the original wiring harness so I do not have the bulbs and sockets to mount them into the speedo. Have you got a source for them? This is very informative, I now feel I can remove the bezel and clean it out inside

      Thanks! There are several sources to get a wiring harness. JBugs, CIP1 and American Autowire are a few.

    Never seen your videos before, but very nice work.. Do you do full custom restorations? I'm looking for a shop to build me a top end Baja restomod.. I've been out of the Volkswagen scene for so long, I'm not sure who does that level of restoration anymore...Where are you guys located, I'm in Tennessee...
