  • Simple demonstration to help people learn physics in a short amount of time. This was presented by the brilliant Dr. Tatiana Erukhimova from the Texas A&M University Physics & Astronomy department. If you want more content, follow our social media channels and be on the lookout for our TAMU Physics & Engineering Festival #TAMUPhysicsFest in the spring of every year where we have tons of demos like this to get young minds excited about science.

The difference between intelligence and wisdom is illustrated perfectly by a physics professor who demonstrates the complex concept of inertia, but also knows that she needs to remind her students not to grab knives by the blade. 😄

So like every object with a mass has something called inertia. This prevents something to move, as you can see in accalerating cars. You get pushed in the seats. Thats your inertia. So the potatoes inertia is so big that in this short period of time it wont move it just stays where it is but the knife however will get deeper and deeper. Hope this is kind of understandable

That’s why you fall over in a bus when you stand and the bus turns. The bus turns but your body wants to keep moving in the same direction. Thats also why spacecraft keep going.
