  • Enjoy in Multi Shot PANDAVISION - next best thing to being there!
A feat of entertainment, engineering and aesthetics, The American Adventure took Disney Imagineers 5 years to complete. The beautiful building in which it is housed was intended as a "people's mansion," taking design cues from the classic Georgian style of the late 1700s, Colonial Williamsburg, Independence Hall, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and the Old State House in Boston.
The façade of the American Adventure Pavilion is made of 110,000 bricks handmade from Georgia red clay, aged for an authentic look and feel. Its central rotunda is approximately 35 feet high, with its dome adding another 10 feet. The pavilion itself encompasses an expansive 108,555 square feet!
The American Adventure's theater can accommodate up to 1,024 Guests, and there's not a bad seat in the house. All of the pivotal moments in American history you'll see appear and disappear seamlessly through the use of a computer-controlled movable device under the stage dubbed the "war wagon." Ten different sets are stored there and are moved forward or backward on cue by this technological marvel. Just another example of good old-fashioned American ingenuity!

Thanks for sharing this! I worked at WDW for 11 years, from 95-06. My last 7 were as an Artist Prep at Epcot, and I know this attraction very well, as I worked on all most all of those figures! Even today, some of those effects they achieved such as Twain's smoking cigar, Will Rogers twirling lasso, Franklin walking up the steps still are pretty amazing. You should see the attraction from back stage-it's quite an engineering marvel!

What an amazing engineering job Disney accomplished while developing this show, along with superb animatronic programming. The last scene with Ben and Mark in the Statue of Liberty torch is Disney's finest, most realistic animatronic programming ever done, hands down. Thank you, thank you, thank you for documenting this show in such richly deserved quality.

Watched this as part of my American national government course in college today. We had a briefing and a discussion after each segment explaining the history behind it and the other dark side of the story, if existed, that common Americans are unfamiliar with. It is indeed a rich history, not necessarily a source of pride though as I see it. But very well created show, very rich and informative.

Chris Weaver It was the higher end Sony Handycam out about 2 years ago - around $1600 at the time. They have similar ones now around $1400 - highest end Sony Consumer Camera.

Another great video. Too bad you could not show all of the Golden Dreams segment.

For the life of me I can't seem to find anything on the internet about 'the two brothers'. I'm sure Americans (we British didn't really study your civil war) can tell me who they are (or if they were just made up by Disney to illustrate a point)

The "two brothers" are no one in particular. It goes back to the idea that the American Civil War was a time when it was brother against brother. Americans had become so divided in their views about the issues leading up to the Civil War that it was not uncommon for a family with two sons to have one fighting for the Union and the other fighting for the Confederacy. And in some cases, it was believed that having one son on each side increased the chances of at least one surviving. The scene is meant to illustrate that and the tragedy of it.

They should add a sequence for 60's and 70's, particularly for the Civil Rights Movement.
