There are very few females ever who have her overall talent.personly I think she is the best female singer ever..she does an amazing version of ave Maria in latin that will amaze you..just type in "carpenters Ave Maria video" on you tube. She sounds like an opera singer..

outside in a field, no autotune, live and with 70's level sound equipment. "close to you" was a Carpenters song, written by burt bacharach.. If you notice, all of the songs in the medley are "speeded up" and jazzy almost as the carpenters started out with more "jazz" in their repertoire along with their soft mellow pop sound songs...

They began as an instrumental jazz trio, winning the jazz division of the 1966 Hollywood Bowl Battle of the Bands. The Dick Carpenter Trio. Karen, still a highschooler then, was the drummer and not usually singing...

Check out live “Goodbye To Love” next. That is quintessential Carpenters music! Halfway thru and then again at the very end is a fuzz guitar solo by Tony Peluso that created the genre of power ballad. Richsrd and John Bettis wrote it, Karen is amazing as always, the backup band is right, the harmonies are up front, and Tony’s solo is the icing on the cake. I never want that guitar solo to end!!!!

Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote as a team Burt wrote the music, and Hal David wrote the lyrics. Some of the biggest songs in history.

Better video quality than the other CZcams post of this I've seen, but this one's unfortunately had sections hacked out of it. Still gives a very good idea of how terrific Carpenters were live.
There were two Carpenters Christmas albums, the second one released after Karen's passing. Both have since been released together as a single set.
    Karen played bass also...
Richard was the one behind the overall Carpenters sound, whether the jazz and classical influences or the stunning multitrack harmonies (inspired by Les Paul and Mary Ford circa 1950). For a stunning example of all three aspects, listen to Another Song or Mr Guder, both of them from the 1970 Close To You album...

Wonderful reaction guys to maybe the best female drummer who can sing. Thank you for doing my request. This is one of my top favorite Carpenters performances ever and it was basically in their first year or so of performing out there. There were mikes everywhere so for 1970 they got the sound down and I’m so grateful for that. That Karen was drumming as hard as she was but perfect for the songs and just nailing the vocal still gives me chills 53 years later. There’s a lot more in their rabbit hole to discover. Just, Pure Magic! To borrow a phrase.
    Merry Christmas guys!
    Joe

This is probably, the best Burt Bacharach medley done by the Carpenters. Video quality and sound is very good. Other versions indoors is not as good. Karen's voice is very clear and smooth. You do not tire of hearing her voice. This is Karen Carpenter's legacy for decades down the road.

I agree! I orginally owned it on cassette. A few years ago I bought their double Chrisrmas Collection CD. It has the original "Christmas Portraits" and their other Christmas album "An Old-Fashioned Christmas". I think Richard released it after Karens death. It's songs they didn't have room for on the first album.

Many times, because of the quality of their live performances, they were accused of miming to a recording. Not so, they were that good, and Karen was so pitch perfect, and perfect on her timing, that she did sound like her studio recordings.

@@jazzmaan707 oh yeah! I love Fil’s channel. His analysis is awesome. He’s done numerous Carpenters/Karen shows. I asked him but he doesn’t do unknowns. I’ve been following and going nuts over a new artist. I think she’s amazing and wanted him to prove my ear right.
      Example:
      czcams.com/users/shortslzGAhBT-zTg?si=4IhYIl-RKKUUh4uG
It’s not just this, it’s everything she does. But the above is just nuts. Her breath control is off the hook.

They were indeed that good live, as Fil Henley conclusively showed. But many of the specifically made-for-TV videos are mimed performances--as was completely standard at the time. For a fan it's very easy to tell the difference. But it may take several seconds before someone, usually Karen, does something the tiniest bit different from the studio version you've heard maybe a hundred times, and you realize, "oh...this one's pure live..." they were indeed that good.

    • @jbs256
      @jbs256 Před 2 měsíci +2

@@stevetournay6103 and sometimes, BBC Close To You, where Karen had the hot microphone and the rest was mimed. It was certainly a mix. Have you seen Mr. Guder on The Tonight Show 1973, restored by Harvey Stig? That is simply amazing. Actually he did that whole performance. The full version is on the Johnny Carson channel. The two music only segments and a bunch more of his restorations are on his channel, his name. A treasure trove of Carpenters videos.
