This is absolute madness! Baltic dragon is a a sadist!
Yep, they've gone out of their way to try and prove non-combat missions can be challenging, after feedback on Raven One, and he's done it with conviction haha!
Well.. this is how things can look in real life in carrier aviation. Simple training hop can go nasty very easily…
Baltic Dragon Missions are some of the most immersive I have ever played. I have tried to replicate many of the things he has done in the Raven One Campaign in my own missions, and the amount of work that goes into it is huge. I can't wait for this campaign.
You’re absolutely right there mate :) and thanks for the kind words!
@RedKite, this was really enjoyable to watch (more than it was to fly I'm sure ;)). From a former Fighter Controller, I agree with you; that was the most realistic comm I've seen in DCS yet.
This was one of the most enjoyable missions that I've had the pleasure of helping BD test. It is HARD to get right though, and you will need to have your Hornet skills finely polished for this campaign, but it's an absolute challenge to fly! I think I have 27 recorded fly throughs from start up to shut down, and lots more of partial tests of this one mission. This one is a beast :D
An absolute masterpiece. A joy. Absolutely immersive. You are watching a movie in which you are the protagonist. My heart was racing. The feeling really is that you are there and that you are a pilot. Thanks for this mission (creators of the campaign) and you for blowing it up and letting us enjoy it. I repeat: a masterpiece without doubt.
Haha another reason to wanna shoot the tanker ;) thanks for the preview Redkite I'm getting hyped! Tempted to buy a Hornet throttle grip for my Orion 2 just for this... Those ATC comms were so immersive.
Holy crap, I completed Raven One and the rise of the persian lion, but never felt like when playing this mission. The tension of that landing almost killed me. My hands were shaking, once in the shelter. I needed a drink myself. Cheers, Flip.
Very nice masterpiece. You had my heart going with that. My dad gets on DCS with me, I'm going to get this for him as well. Cheers!
LOL, that was great, from the mission build to the flying! I haven't enjoyed watching a mission so much for ages. At times I was right there with you, stomach muscles tight and testicles retracted, lol. Thank you so much for sharing this one, well done! 🥵😱
Very nicely flown there RK! You did a dang better job on that crosswind landing than I would have!
Thanks voice in my head! (Seriously though, thanks for voicing Flip, brought him to life!)
I can't imagine Flip with anyone else's voice! When I listen to the ACS podcast I imagine Flip is discussing flight sims with the Georgian GCI that BD (I think) voices sometimes :D
Nice mission! You wasn’t been “barricaded” as Sponge Bob in the same situation after mission 2 of original Raven One campaign, so good relaxing in a pub for you! Awesome work with the video, thank you! I hope it will be a best campaign walkthrough on CZcams, like the previous one!
My favorite serries returns with a sequel. What a time to be alive! :D And well done on making it alive, my hands were sweating, yet your the one that was flying.
been fun being apart of the developement and testing for the campaign for the past few months. If you like to challenge what you know in the hornet look no further than DF
Just for future note red ;), case 3 pattern after commence is 250 knots down to landing checks
Thanks! Yeah it's not a skill i have a great deal of need to practice generally. Should set myself up a quick reference kneeboard page sometime.
@@RedKiteRender haha, yeah we have one in CSG-3. Comes in handy for the nuggets
also helps that i've played this mission about 30 times testing it. If it's not ingrained in my head then i have a memory problem
Welcome bad RK! Glad to see more content lately, hope you're feeling better!
On one hand I'm super excited for another great campaign. On the other, I don't want to do any of those things...
The non-combat missions are a bit of a love/hate situation. The big combat ops (in Raven One) have been some of the best moments I've had in DCS singleplayer.
Thankfully you can skip missions with ease on campaigns these days if they're not to your taste. I think Baltic's done an excellent job, but i totally understand!
Absolutely awesome video and aweome flying RK, I feel ya on this one! This should be an epic campaign, I've had a small part to play in it myself 🙂
You nailed that push time! Very impressive! I'm loving this campaign so far!
well done Red Kite. Thanks for creating and sharing this
Glad to see Ravens came back ! Thanks for vid !
Great preview, Red! Without giving any spoilers for those who dutifully switched the video off, Baltic Dragon just loves to throw in a surprise here or there. :)
This looks like a perfect test for Case 3 skills. Can’t wait to play it. It will probably be absolutely terrifying in VR
That Case-3 reminds me so much of Jell-O recalling his terrifying experience landing on the deck during his 3rd attempt. Great video!
Great! Thanks red.
Really enjoyed watching that. Thanks 😊
I just played this mission and got a slightly different behavior. For some reason, 405 was stuck in the basket so I couldn't refuel. So I was low on fuel after the first trap attempt (pitching deck) and LSO diverted me.
I didn't have Viking script part. Not sure if I have the patience to try it again though 😅
Very nice edit from you, can't wait to see more🙏
Love it! 👍 Can't wait
Thx, this helped me a lot. Wind in this mission is no joke! I landed at -1200, surprised the gear survived.
To make it slightly easier (I guess) I removed all the pylons before takeoff.
Awesome. Just awesome!
As a student pilot, hearing "winds 40 gusts to 50" just make me think "What's another hour of flight time anyway"
I am so excited for this campaign...wow.
This looks so good! You flew so well i feel like i wouldn't be quite as successful haha
Hey RK, looking forward for the complete playlist! :)
Watched untill the spoiler alert. This was very interesting. I have only done Multiplayer in DCS and did the same in Lo-Mac days, but this really looks very immersive and believable of a RL ops (smooth tanking there btw). And really good to see things used that i haven't had to use before to any serious degree. i think i know what to buy this sale.
Glad you found the Spoiler warning useful! The Raven One campaigns are so immersive! Multiple real world US navy aviators have been involved in the project giving it some serious authenticity.
I played the mission today and runned out of fuel 300 feet from the runway and crashed..... anyway, one of the best mission I ever flew
I call this one Dominant Craven one since Baltic Dragon clearly must be craven to create such a sadistic campaign lol
Great job RK, and the BD team, love these campaigns, and just sweated through the first mission myself. Question - I only acheived an 80 score, I saw the grading system in the readme, but it wasn't clear to me where I went wrong. Mine pretty much went exactly as RKs video, but I think I was a little bit later to hit the tanker (it was already pretty dark for me then), but I did seem to hit my push time with the carrier, so unsure where I went wrong.
Yep ok, this is so far outside my skill level I can’t even relate. I can’t even get her on the deck with a visual approach and I’ve never even attempted a case iii or flown at night. Time to get a lot more practice in, but I will learn and complete this mission. If anything it gives me the incentive to do so. Just love Baltic dragons campaigns.
Will you be putting together a new playlist for this new Campaign like you had done with their previous release? Love your work, can't say enough how helpful it is.
At least you didn't need to do the barricade as they did in the book.
I am looking forward to that campaign.
Yeah Sponge had a bad day. (Too bad DCS doesn't simulate the barricade yet..) This campaign is set during events before the 'Raven One' Book however!
Great video. I watched it up to the "Spoiler Alert" and then flew the mission myself. A challenging mission (well done Baltic Dragon). I noticed you use voice commands (Voice Attack), do you have any tips on setting this up as I seem to have intermittent results with it but would like to use it more often...
Do the Voice training sessions to help the computer learn your voice! and try to keep commands to at least two syllables with clear distinction from others (avoid similar sounding words in other commands)
We get to do Spongebobs landing from the book. Mostly.
EXCELLENT mission! Don't ask for it to be easy always... you'll just grow old as a noob then ;-)(
Just flew this for the first time and on the second approach after the first Bolger I must of joined the stack too early cause I ended up flying straight into the ass of another plane haha
Almost finished with the Raven One and can't wait to start this new adventure... but is this based on Declared Hostile or else which of Kevin's books?
Kevin wrote it as a prequel to raven one just for this campaign. It's new material
You are sweating us hard
If it is for experienced players, what would you recommend we play to train up for what this requires? Thank you :)
There are two ways, either play some other great campaigns there (like Persian Freedom, Serpent’s Head) - or try these campaigns (starting with original Raven One) and just sometimes play each mission 2-3 times, watching videos and learning as you go.
@@balticdragon3611 Thanks. I was so stoked for "Raven Zero" thinking it was a training campaign LOL :)
Each mission brief is also a great source of what's needed, including diagrams (like the case 3 pattern) Personally i'm a little rusty on the hornet, so i take some time to practice what's mentioned in the brief beforehand! You'll also want to familiarise yourself with the idea of 9 lines and doing CAS as i expect it'll come up in this, just like it did Raven One. A pen and paper on hand helps too!.
"I could have a stiff drink after this one"
Haha - i bet you can consider yourself lucky, if you get away with only one drink after visiting a RAF base. But its ok after landing SIDEWAYS. :-)
He'll be leaving the Officer's club sideways if he can't keep up with the Brits :)
I ignored LSO and landed safely, and didn't understand what's wrong.
14:20 where does the light on tanker comes from? It can only be taxi light with gear down
There is a light on the Hornet's AAR probe, at the bottom, which is visible when i disconnect.
May I ask what means '150 through 5' at 26:43? I never heard of that before....
@@kevinmiller5780 Thanks for your reply! But why should I maintain 150 knots through 5 miles instead of directly slow to on-speed while going dirty?
@@ivatana2429 Because like any airport, Approach is sequencing a number of airplanes. They can see on their scopes the distance between aircraft and give speed changes to ensure they show up in 60 second intervals at the ramp. Maintaining 150 through 5 is a constant they can use to manage the pattern. At five miles, even without a call (like "405, take best speed") the pilots slow to on-speed and get set up for the approach. They may also have you go dirty earlier or "take best speed" earlier to sequence. All part of the great game.
This is routine, and part of the custom Dominant Fury immersion.
@@kevinmiller5780 May I ask whant 'Tomahawk' in M01 M03 and 'Spider Web' in M03 refer to?And how real pilots manage their speed to get to Marshal Fix at 250 knots just on time(I really don't understand how to keep a 180-degree level turn and the legs in 1 minutes, the winds is disturbing...)?Besides, is Marshal bearing usually the same as final bearing(I once found a picture says Marshal bearing is final bearing plus 30 degrees...)?
As a campaign only player this made me pee a little !! 😂
what would have happened if you had nailed the carrier landing first time?
You were told to wave off by the LSO. In real
life if you landed after being waved off you’d be in huge trouble. Here you will only fail the mission.
Why didn't you do a proper Case 3 departure?
I did, i just cut it out, you don't really want to watch me fly straight and level for 10nm do you?
Give us more missions plz
You'll be happy to hear i've flown M02 and M03, but i've not had time to edit them. Couple things need to come first, but i will be doing a full play through once personal time allows.
Hope everyone enjoys the use of external views in this! I've been putting together a new technique to get around just how awful the DCS replay system is.
It's rather immersive.
Digging the views from the bubble and the island!
Looked good to me, and added a nice opportunity for you to clip between segments nicely without jarring changes in the two states.
What do you do to get around the replay system?
Actually amazing!
