    Ironically, my Dad was a snow plow driver. What did he use to get to his snow plow? A 1974 Beetle! An orange one. True story!

    I own three, restored 1967 Volkswagen Beetles: Sedan, Sunroof and convertible. The convertible is valued at over $50k. Also, the Beetle in the 1974 "Worst storm ever" commercial at 23:40 is a 1967 Beetle, which sounds just terrific as it pulls away.

    My first car was a 1970 Beetle. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned. In 1976 my wife and I were looking at a brand new Beetle for $1795.00. I think hyperinflation is already here!

    Still regret selling my bug. Simple but great, reliable cars (the later versions like mine). Ok, tolerances aren't that tight, and you have to watch the body to not let it be eaten by rust, but it will get you from a to b and back with a smile on your face!

      But the cost of old VW parts is beyond obscene especially in countries where there isn't third party parts available but only those made by VW like a muffler for $2800 for a T2 Transporter.

    I'll be honest, if VW still made this old-style Beetle, I'd buy one. My neighbor had one when I was a kid, and she'd take me places in it. I thought it was a really cool car, and she never got stuck in the snow with it.

    Throughout the 1950s and 1960s the VW beetle was just about the only car available to Americans who wanted something small and with good gas mileage. It’s not very well-known today but all those years ago The beetle was detested by many American men who could not stomach the idea of a car being sold just because it’s gas mileage was good and because it was affordable and efficient and reliable.

    When I was a kid (1960's) I remember my dad saying that they were air-cooled engine junk and that he would see them regularly along the highways with the "trunks up." LOL! Sure enough as I got older it proved true. I rode in a bug once and it was loud inside, crazy small, hard ride and everything was plastic. I noticed that even the doors were cardboard thin and knew for sure then that I would never EVER buy one! Funny how so many people have been duped by buying one of them...all because they looked different and was good on gas (when they ran.)

    • @ericknoblauch9195
      @ericknoblauch9195 Před 17 dny

      When I was a kid, I remember in 1972 when the Volkswagen Beetle surpassed the Ford Model T by taking the title as the best selling car of all time. That is how many people who were duped into buying one. Beetles at the time were everywhere. I also knew a mechanic who drove a 1956 Beetle. The odometer on his bug turned over from 99,999 miles back to 00,000 ten times. He drove that bug over 1,000,000 miles. The body sagged, and it looked rather beat up but still ran when everyone else had a car that would not start, or was at a service facility being repaired. That bug was one of the most reliable cars in our neighborhood at the time because it ran when everyone else had car troubles.

    I have said this several times before the makers of original Volkswagens beetles had the best ideas if only all auto makers did the same with all automobiles made we would all be safer nicer on our roads less crowded safer driving tho one problem is those volks who donot do proper mantaince on schedule or if things happen not sure of to do quick donot always have it looked at until problems this is not all volks but some on my last automobile I watched it all weather god bad drove less only easy slow does it from past learnings some of this is not possible to do when distance to auto shop closed you sick or else wise doing your best to avoid stop go traffic helps too preventwear tear on some parts now cars who wears what so called sex fashions our past lives on things we did at home dating music was better or more I love these videos comedy history just too bad we have to work mucho to pay bills slaves to debt credit cards who enjoys life much anymore bye bye
