  • Here we are in 2024 and many of us are looking forward to enjoying another year in retirement. But it’s not always easy to do it alone…and we don’t have to. There’s quite a lot of support available to us senior citizens in Canada. The problem for many folks is finding that information. So, In this video, I hope to shed some light on the benefits and services for seniors in Canada that can help provide us with a comfortable retirement and minimize retirement regrets.
We'll talk about the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement, Disability Pension Benefit and much more

CPP and OAS should not be taxable. This makes no sense to pay a benefit then be taxed on it. The goverment needs to greatly simplify this nonsense.

Great question, Kevin.I've always wondered about that as well. Perhaps because CPP is something we paid into it's treated like any other investment? OAS on the other hand is a straight benefit as you pointed out.

Not sure what you mean. What, or who, must be a "rich senior."

An excellent question to send off to your MP, Marilyn. I agree that seniors should be getting more breaks.

Not sure what you mean by "serious benefits" but each benefit from either federal or provincial governments has its own eligibility criteria so one has to do a bit of research for them.

I know a lady never worked in Canada was sponsored by her daughter and just lived for ten years and getting 1800$ per month pension. I wonder how pension is calculated, I know a person worked in Canada for 14 years getting 1200 around low income sometimes no income. What is formula to calculate pension old age/GIS and CPP Is there an easy method to calculate. Why they don't make a table starting from 10 years to 40 years serving and contribution. I could not understand sorry for that

It is a nonsense to make CPP and OAS a taxable income !!!!!! As a CPP benefit I am collecting 577 $ every month and have to pay tax on it !!!! Does it really make sense ????? As for OAS benefit, I have been living in Canada since the year 2000 and have started to collect a meagre 413 $ per month and have also to pay tax on it !!!!!!! WTF is wrong with Canada ??? Think about of surviving on a monthly taxable total income of $ 990 !!!!!! I really regret having worked so hard to earn this in my old age !!! At least those who have not worked hard get at least a GIS (guaranteed ) income supplement as a bonus, which I don't get !!!! OAS and CPP as well as GIS shouldn't be taxable income !!! It is like our GOVERNMENT want us (SENIORS) to horribly die of hunger and misery !!!! Hope Conservative PIERRE POILIEVRE ABOLISH TAXES ON THOSE BENEFITS FOR SENIORS !!!!

@@eugenemukama1794 It is indeed frustrating. I wouldn't hold my breath expecting a change of govt to do anything different. Have you asked your MP about this?
