  • This song is, inspired by a famous Japanese ghost story "Hoichi the earless", about how a young Buddhist priest lost his ears. Hoichi had his body painted with the letters of the Heart Sutra for protection against bewitchery, and tried hard to remain silent and motionless while his ghostly audience visited him.

    Hoichi's Passion / Ningen-Isu
    Inside Amidadera temple,
during the scary hour after midnight
Weeds and trees are having a good night's sleep
    Lukewarm winds, strange voices
    Ghostly fires flitting around
I want you, the man skillfully playing music
I want you, the man making wonderful sound
    Come here
    Follow me
    Don't fear
    Don't hesitate
    Hoichi
Sound of the Biwa guitar resonating in the graveyard at night
With stupa boards all around sobbing
The blind man devoted all his might to
Hitting the strings toward the sky with the large plectrum
I want you, the man with a sweet face
I want you, the man with a beautiful voice
    Come here
    Follow me
    Don't fear
    Don't hesitate
    Hoichi
    "Heart Sutra"
A lot of ghosts, all bewitched
Fires of the dead were flickering in the wind
    Holy Budda's "Heart Sutra"
The texts are written on every part of his body
I want you, the man who can console the sorrows
I want you, the man who can beguile away the chagrin
    Come here
    Follow me
    Don't fear
    Don't hesitate
    Hoichi
    "Heart Sutra"
