      Can you turn the driving aids off so that they stay off? I mean I drive my own car thank you, do not want that pesky lane assist turning on every time I exit the car. And my other problem with EVs in general is range in the cold. I live in Finland where it gets under -20c every winter, if the range is halved from standard then it makes no sense to me. I just rather take the train lol :D

    A shame they don’t complete the range with a Trophy standard range, despite losing some range the LFP battery is safer and the ability to charge to 100% daily ( without any premature battery life problems ) is a great option , this model currently available in Thailand.

    Great review, I’ve had this same model for 4 weeks now. The voice assistant is ok at managing the climate control. The steering wheel shortcut buttons are great. My only grip with it is the driving mode and preferences aren’t persistent. It defaults to normal driving and normal regeneration every time you get in. The traffic sign recognition is turned back on and all the sensitivities are rested to medium too. Fix this with a software update and it would be near perfect. A minor annoyance is the wireless charging pad isn’t very powerful and often doesn’t work so my phone screen constantly turns on and off. Again, much like the traffic sign recognition it’s very distracting. The second minor annoyance is the brightness, it doesn’t have 2 levels for day and night so you’re blinded getting back in at night after driving it during the day. And the light sensor is pretty weak, the headlights come on as soon as there’s a hint of a cloudy sky. The range is bang on, as is the charging speeds. Great size and loads of extras as standard. The interior is very nice. Overall an amazing car just let down a bit by its software.
    Notes: I gave up a Kia EV6 for this car. It’s half the price of my old GT-Line S Heat Pump but, it’s got better range in my opinion, I think Kia lied a little on their range claims. It’s just as big, except the boot and frunk/froot. The inside is only slightly less luxurious and the driving aids only slightly less finessed. I’m really happy with it.

    The SR has LFP battery chemistry, that's the reason I bought one. The climate controls can be programmed on the RH star button ,so can be readily to hand. The 70mph speed thing comes on when using Apple Maps satnav (sometimes). Range is affected by 'intelligent' battery heating - it is easy to turn off permanently for better efficiency. Build quality is iffy, but as it's the only car with VTL and LFP some shortcomings are forgivable.

No cars are cheap these days but I am so happy with my car. Half of the public charging I have used has worked so far. The car is not going to be the challenge in terms of ownership. I have a MG4 and about the SatNav, you just need to touch the screen and it will recenter. Apparently it keeps working, but shows you the last position you were looking at before doing other stuff, like it wants to show you where you were going before "interrupting". Hopefully it's gonna be fixed, but e.g. if you control temperature with the right star button (I'd recommend to do it that way, easier and safer in my opinion) satnav will keep working, while adjusting with the screen will make the satnav look like it has frozen.

    Had the MG4 come along a year ago, it would almost be a no-brainer to pick it, but honestly there are better picks out there now. You can, for the same money, buy a slightly used Cupra Born, Hyundai Kona or Kia E-Niro from 2022.
    Personally, i find the seats in the MG4 feeling way too cheap, almost like a cheap gaming chair, and the driver assists are bad, like Tesla bad. The other ones i mentioned above, have very good driver assists.

As a company car that must be brand new or a mobility car also must be brand new the MG4 is impossible to match for value for money except possibly the MG5 facelift.

    Picking up my Trophy Long Range shortly. Amazing test drive which exceeded all driving expectations! Two programmable switches will take away some of the pain of lack of physical climate control buttons - climate control can also be voice controlled too. Since your video has come out, there is the Extended range 320-odd mile range which is quite a bit more money. An extra 3.5 - 4k for around 40 extra miles seemed a little bit unnecessary. Price is hugely competitive - can't imagine why folk wouldn't want to look at this vehicle if tempted by an EV in the first place. Enjoyed your video - excellent prep pre test drive and post ordering!

      @Brian-om2hh Před rokem +1

      Viability of petrol stations may come about sooner than we think. It's difficult to be exact because we've never been here before. But as sales volumes of petrol and diesel fall due to rising EV uptake, oil companies will reduce production to match. Shell have already stated in their latest business report, that they plan to cut the production of petrol and diesel by 40% on the lead up to 2030. You won't need to "brew" your own petrol. Aspen synthetic petrol has been on sale in Britain for decades. The downside is the cost, at around £30 a gallon.... The places who sell chainsaws and other powered garden machinery tend to stock Aspen. There is talk and speculation regarding various bio-fuels etc, but again none of these are likely to be cheap. I've seen $5 plus per litre mentioned.

My VW tiguan keeps telling me my 30mph road near me is 70mph. and often on the m4 it will try and slow me down to 40mph (with Adaptive cruise it limits the speed to the speed limits) almost got a ticket several times when it's done it on random roads near cameras too.

    I don't know if there are differences between different trim levels in different markets. In my neck of the woods Trophy is the only trim level that comes with a heat pump, as well as heated seats and heated steering wheel. While I can live without any of those, I am wondering if a heat pump is big enough reason to go with trophy in my rather cold climate area. Since I don't give a toss about other bells and whistles that comes with trophy, 4k€ price jump from SE to trophy makes quite an expensive heat pump. Not really sure if it's really worth quite that much.

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  Před 11 měsíci

      How cold are we talking? Heat pumps definitely do give a range advantage in cold climates but also consider how often you’re likely to need the maximum amount of range, if the answer is “not very often” you still might not get your money’s worth.

      Southern Finland, so we still have real winters. Although those are getting shorter and milder. MG came to our market only last month, so we don't have real world data of cold performance here yet. I probably can manage with SE, but there is a mental block somewhere between my ears that I have to overcome. The one thing though that is really pushing me towards SE instead of Trophy is battery chemistry.
