      They may ask to see your employment contract stating that you can work remotely. They may also request an official letter from your employer stating you are allowed to work remotely.

    Does the two years start when you arrive in Colombia or is it retrospective? I.e. If I apply and get the visa in November, but I go in January of next year - will they deduct 2 months?

    • @nomadsembassy
      @nomadsembassy  Před 10 měsíci

      This ultimately depends on the immigration agent handling the application. The initial visa is for one year, which could start when it is approved or earlier when the agent receives the application. Unfortunately, the situation is at the discretion of the agents.

      Colombia does tax worldwide income, so if you stay in the country for more than 183 days out of the year, you will be considered a tax resident.

      Thank you for the info. What is the purpose of the visa if you have to leave within the 180 day period? What is the incentive to admit you’re earning income remotely? If applying for this visa would mean paying 24% tax, or whatever percentage it is, what’s the incentive for the workers who apply? Paying tax in two different countries doesn’t sound logical to me and the 180 day period makes it somewhat useless in my opinion. What am I missing? Thank you

    • @nomadsembassy
      @nomadsembassy  Před rokem

      @@MeatEatingVegan2024 Most countries have a double-taxation agreements so that you only pay taxes in one country (the one you reside in) Your questions would be best discussed with an immigration lawyer or tax professional since taxes are so personal and you may have a different tax rate based on certain categories or information about your lifestyle.
      Most people apply for this visa to live full time in Colombia and take advantage of the low cost of living or they want to create a startup in the country.
