Modern Masters from Hong Kong

Following last autumn’s successful exhibition in London’s Cromwell Place during Asian Art In London, Alisan Fine Arts is delighted to announce its participation in this year's Asian Art In London’s summer event. On this occasion we would like to introduce the works of six modern masters who were at the forefront of Hong Kong’s art scene since the 1960’s and played a pivotal role in its development.
Hong Kong art is a unique product of the city's culture and natural ecology of East and West. Hong Kong artists are known for their ability to skilfully incorporate the rich tradition and culture of Chinese ink painting with Western artistic traditions and techniques, while incorporating modern themes and methods. Hong Kong art has been influenced by Western culture since the 1940s, while still remaining grounded in Chinese artistic practices. Since the 1960s, Hong Kong artists have gone one step further in their creative approach of combining the principles of Western modern art with Chinese media such as calligraphy and ink painting. This has resulted in a unique Hong Kong art style that has expanded into new realms, such as sculpture and other forms of contemporary media.
Alisan hopes to present six significant artists in the Hong Kong art scene and promote the understanding and appreciation of Hong Kong art to a broader international audience through this exhibition. A talk “Introduction to Hong Kong Modern Masters" will be held in conjunction with the exhibition. These Hong Kong artists are: Ink Master Lui Shou-Kwan and his students Irene Chou, Kan Tai-Keung, and Wucius Wong; Hon Chi-Fun, one of Hong Kong's most iconic artists; and Rosanna Li, a well-known female ceramicist.
