  • Just as I thought that I had only heard Ministry for the first time in 1988, it turns out I had actually heard them the first time in 1983, without With Sympathy or any of the early singles, but instead as a hugely popular commercial for Shasta soft drinks who when they used to run television ads

I am now determined to see Ministry again, get right up front and center, and keep shouting “PLAY THE SHASTA SINGLE” in between songs.

Al Jourgensen allowed what was fashionable in both the 80s AND the 90s to shape him. For some reason he doesn't seem to be as embarrassed about his 90s faux pas' as he is of his 80's ones.

More proof that despite what Al says now, he totally had control over what he did in "With Sympathy" and that's OK.

@@audiogus2651 Exactly, not like he this typos jingle was what he got his rocks off to. He also produced this awesome Iggy Pop song and played guitar on it in 1983:
      czcams.com/video/1135wTjZ_Ec/video.html
And even back in 1980 played on this hard post punk jam. He definitely liked hard music back then:

When I was a kid in the 80s I visited LA with my fam and we went to some Chuck Woolery game show... I won the "door prize" which included a year's supply of Shasta. So, this hits close to home. A NEW WORLD COLA

How can it be that I've never heard of this until now? Of course, the first time I ever heard Everyday Is Halloween, it was in a commercial for Budweiser Dry. "You dance, you sweat, you dry yourself off... Bud Dry"

He never denied his past work, he's openly talked about how doing stuff like this because he needed money, he had a daughter right around this time and this was before ministry went more mainstream in the early 90's

When I was growing up in the '70s and '80s, my folks primarily shopped at Safeway. I remember how much I loved "The Skipper" cola, never knowing that it was a knockoff of Dr Pepper, and was always turned off by the thought of the latter, thanks to my late father always describing it as fizzy prune juice, or words to that effect 🙄😆. I also loved Cragmont Cream Soda, too.
Hmmm. Although I definitely remember this commercial, appreciated its quirkiness (without knowing who was behind it at the time) - and come Junior High a couple years or so later, was happy every time one of the "With Sympathy" era tracks came over the airwaves in the Seattle-Tacoma suburbs, I guess we really didn't help out Shasta much though, after all... sorry, Uncle Al. 😕
