There might be some confusion amongst some drummers, & musicians, about Ghost Notes & Grace Notes...are they different?...the same? This video explains a little bit of that. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe!
So ghost notes were a new term I recently heard a few months ago and couldn't figure out what they were until this video. I had always seen them in my sheet music and knew what to do with them but never heard a name till now. This video made it all click because you showed us the notes written out. Thanks a ton man!!
Wow, someone actually covered most of this grace, ghost note thing. You do have a couple of errors though. Ghost notes can follow the primary note also. Grace notes can also be used with the primary note played on a different instrument that doesn't have to be from percussion. Common in classical music. Also look at Portraits in Rhythm, Etude number 9. 2/8 time with 2, 3, 4 and 6 grace notes before an eighth note. There is also the Anacrusis or incomplete measure that precedes the first measure of a composition or score. It can be as simple as a single grace note that begins before the start of the music and the primary note or notes of the music is whatever the comes on the one of the music. Additionally it should be noted that it is commonly said that it has no rhytmic value. Nonsense.
Wow, that was an incredibly succinct explanation. I really do enjoy your teaching battle and ability to bring clarity to often ambiguous or contentious musical concepts. Happy belated Thanksgiving, I'm thankful that I can learn from and have access to a wonderful musician and teacher such an yourself 🤌
