love this scanner I brought one of line even where I live and work is dead it still pick off some channels easy to use
I have this one, it supplements my UBC3500XLT. It's great on the airband which it was bought for.
Going to buy following this recommendation 😍
Good review. Maybe a bit short because this can be a intimidating scanner as for the novices. But, the best method for getting to know the ins and outs of this product is to be thrown into the deep first and learn about the basics which you explained quite clearly. Oh, maybe a bit of a advice about the antenna. This short rubber antenna is only for real strong stations or nearby signals. A separate telescopic whip that can be adjusted as for the received frequency does do the radio much more justice as it will bring in many more signals. At least, this is my experience. Regards, Willem.
Thanks for the comment! I have created a playlist on setting up this scanner, the next video will be about upgrading the antenna.
Nice review mate :) Great little scanner
It's always in use. Wish I got it sooner!
Ringway Manchester good things come in small packages
Hi mate, I currently have the Uniden Bearcat 75XLT version. How different is the XLT125 in comparison and is it worth the upgrade? I only really use Air and Marine but have never tried Military. Not really sure that I will but live and let live ... Also I only have a basic Windows laptop or an Ipad so was also wondering about the downloads etc. Please let me know, Laurie
The 75XLT doesn't cover UK military band and has more gaps between the frequency bands. The 125XLT does. As to upgrading.. I depends where you are located, if there are no Military airbases or flight routes close to you then you wont pick anything up.
Regarding programming Ive made a simple video on how to do this. I programmed it manually and using ARC125.
Hi all....is this radio switchable and able to pickup AM and FM on the 225mhz to 512mhz band ie mil ATC...which far as I know is AM.
Thanks guys.
it should automatically revert to AM when scanning in the Civil and Mil air band range,
Great video, thanks for posting your review. Would you say this would a good beginner radio, I've been looking at the 72 and 92 but they don't have the usb connectivity, didn't realise there were so many models, thanks again
For what it covers, and what it costs. It is a good radio for a beginner. Programming it for the first time might seem difficult at first, but it gets easier the more time you do it.
Thanks for the advice and fast reply.
I really love this scanner, my only dislike is the keypad lettering rubbing out, you can start to see this on yours, power and hold buttons
I did see some replacement ones on ebay ages ago. The hold button on mine is pretty much gone now.
Hi great video and needed by me .Just started learning with a 125 lots to do . thanks. PC Manchester.
Thanks!
Bought a scanning about 30yr ago can't seem to receive anything any advice
Ditch the rubber duck antenna and get a Nagoya Na-771 whip, it depends on how far away you are from the transmission source and what you want to listen to. If you live within 30 Miles of a Major airport you can pick up Departure/Arrival control and within 10 miles you can pick up the Tower.
How do you find the battery life on this unit? I read mixed reviews on this subject. Thanks.
Never really tested how long the battery lasts. I'll try and test it this week
Love mine, use a diamond x30 high on a pole on the house ,,and charge 4 battery's in an external charger,, not so fund on the tecsun 680 that I recently bought for almost the same price thanks shane uk
Next year I hope to sort some antennas out for scanning and shortwave. Also need to sort one out for amature radio. Going to be busy next year!
shaneweightman I
I guess there is the option to operate it connected to the mains via Usb, - i have just ordered this for VHF listening and the Tecsun PL-365 for HF, greeting, Levi from Finland
Yes you can listen to it whilst plugged into a usb port.
@@driverfilmsshortwavechannel thanks!
I bought this scanner about 3 days ago. Seems nice although I am still getting to know it and how it works. Would you suggest an aftermarket antenna for better signal reception? Also this scanner can pick up any ctcss or dcs tones? It can pick up police frequency too? Thanks on advance
The Nagaya NA-771 antennas get good reviews, I use a Diamond RH770 whip antenna with mine, but it makes the scanner top heavy. The scanner can detect ctcss and dcs tones using the close call feature.
If you live in the UK you cannot pick up the Police frequencies anymore.
@@driverfilmsshortwavechannel Hi you caught me online. I ordered the Diamond RH795 telescopic antenna with BNC connector and covers frequencies from 70-1000Mhz. It extends also to a maximum of 119cm height. I live in Greece,as far as i know here they dont use the TETRA system anymore,i dont know if they use digital or not. But as far as i know, police here operates at VHF and UHF,and some utilities at 800Mhz.
I am into VHF Airband (118~137mhz), I am thinking of buying this reciever and I am also interested in the Icom IC-R30, wonder which performs best on VHF Airband, Someone says that radio world charges £10 to put on selective programs, what are selective programs.
I dont know anything about the Icom. Radioworld will programme the bearcat to frequencies that are local to you, but its easy enough to do it yourself. I have made a video on how to do this.
@@driverfilmsshortwavechannel are those exact radio frequencies they program for your area free online for the public, where do they get the frequencies from.
Frequencies can be found online, Ive used this website www.newfrequency.co.uk/
Can u pick u up CB, Ssb, ham etc on this..
What about the old bill?
This looks interesting hobbie.
I just brought a CB but it's dead out there..
You can pick up CB and the 10 Meter (28Mhz) Ham band. It will only do FM and AM and no you can't pick up the police anymore as they use a digital system called TETRA airwave.
Thanks
Can this model be used in North America?
Hi Thanks for this, just got myself a Uniden xlt 3500 and this is just what i have been
looking for to get programming, i know yours is a xlt 125, but are the operations just the
same for both scanners,, just subscribed. and i will certainly keep watching,, cheers
Im not sure on that one. There is a good facebook group that is dedicated to Airband scanners. Im sure there is a few members who will be able to help you
facebook.com/groups/UKAirbandScannersandVR/
hello thank you for your very helpful video. do you know how i might record the transmissions i recieve from my 125xlt, perhaps with my a phone app when out and about.
I'm unsure of any app that can record any transmissions, the only alternative that I can think of would be a dictaphone that has a vox option.
Ok thanks for your help. If I discover a method I'll let you know.
Thanks, I'll also keep an eye out and see if anything comes up.
Thanks your video made me decide on the uniden . I've wanted a scanner for years. Should arrive by next wk. Can't wait.
HI ufm10 xxl, using Scan125 Control Program software version 2.7.0.0. (free) allows you so record audio from the scanner. You will need to connect the USB lead to the PC and also an audio cable from the headphone socket to the mic input on the PC.
You can set the software to record sound only whilst the squelch is open, it will also list the date, time, channel number and any names you have stored in the radio against the audio.
when i press fnc sound will not turn off? what should i do?
Func button followed by the 7 button will get rid of the beeping
Hi can you power it without batteries ie mains only
Will this pick up UK CB FM frequencies, a review said it would only pick up AM around 26mhz.
Yes it will pick up 25 - 27.9950 which includes the UK CB frequencies. Modulation between AM and FM can be selected in the menus.
subscriber +1, hi there i just got this scanner, when im on close call nothing seems to happen, should the band numbers be flashing? maybe you could make a video showing how to use it correctly? thanks
Close call feature will only work when there is a strong signal close to the frequency, it also depends on the antenna being used. The one that it comes with is not brilliant, but an upgrade will bring better results. Regarding the band numbers, they do flash when they are being scanned.
1) this can be used for military aircraft? Not to sure2) how'd I review saved frquncy 3) does aircraft also mean uhf military
Yes it can be used for Military aircraft listening. To review saved frequencies - press the hold button and rotate the knob at the top till you find the frequency you want to review.
UHF band starts at 300 Mhz and goes upto 1Ghz this covers Military, 70cm amature radio, PMR and sometimes wirless headphones.
VHF covers commercial Aircraft and 2m amature band.
I know I've got some saved on bank 1 but I cant find a way to access themb
Have you got bank one selected?
Quick question. When you plug in earphones, does the sound come out of both earpieces?
and secondly, can you turn off the beeping when you pres the keys?
Cheers.
Sound comes out on both earpieces when using earphones. To stop the beeping when you press the keys: Press Func then 7
You're a star. Cheers. I had a small scanner years back, can't remember the make, but I had to get a mono to stereo adapter because the sound only came from one earpiece. Thanks for the info.
Func. 7. Will not turn off beep
yes it will
is there much left to receive now? is it worth buying one?
There is still Airband and military coms that can be picked up, and sometimes Amature 2 meter/70cms bands. It all depends on your location and whats around you.
driverfilmsshortwave
thanks. I've just ordered a SDR for now see what it's all about.
Nice, I got a cheap dongle off ebay, but Ive not got around to using it yet. maybe in the next few months!
Yes plenty to receive. I listen in on all the local businesses.
This is probably a stupid question, but can you transmit with this radio?
Its receive only
no
if u want a radio that can trasmit with scanner features get the Baofeng UV-5R
I have a Fairmate 2000 that is real retro but mint condition, straight though from 25 to 1300mhz
I am looking for a new scanner and easier to read & use, this looks like the ticket u less you have any other suggestions,
Thank you for a great informative buddy
Ive only had experience with the Bearcat and the tti TSC100RA, for the money and the frequencies it covers the Bearcat wins! The manual isnt brilliant but if you stick with it you'll have a good handheld scanner.
Hi I have just bought a baofeng gt-3tp mark 3 but can’t seem to listen to police fire aeroplane anything please advise
If you are in the UK you cant listen to police as they are on tetra airwave, same as the Fire brigade.. As with the aircraft, the radio doesn't cover the frequency that they operate on
Will it work on bc75xlt
Is this the European version of the Uniden Bearcat BC125AT?
yes, I would say identical...
is this good for a beginner?
Ive left a reply on your channel as I couldnt do it here. Once you get it programmed in and set up its fine, but It's dependant on where you live and what you want to listen too. One thing that will make it even better is to upgrade the antenna as the rubber duck one is not brilliant.
yea i was guna order the www.amazon.com/Diamond-Original-Dual-Band-Handheld-Antenna/dp/B00M1X73EA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488276365&sr=8-1&keywords=BC125AT+ANTENNA
Looks ok, I used a cheap one, can't remember the name of it but it did the job for a while. I use a telescopic one that I bought for a project, but it only works on 144/440mhz.
Hi why is mines not clear on the channel and a fuzzy sound
Can you be a bot more descriptive?
What channel,
What is your location,
What are you trying to listen to?
Is there anything to listen to over 806 MHz ?
Probably radio microphones or wireless speakers. Not really listened to that frequency.
👍👍
Shame it takes such a long , long time to charge up 12 hrs Maybe using DURACELL ULTRA or ULTIMA batteries might be a far better idea to use on holiday or if you can be bothered waiting this boring length of time fine charge it up from about 6 pm night before till after breakfast (9 am) next day. But, length of running time on batteries average is not known. But, be great to know a estimate running time or someone to a running test one on the original rechargeable & another on the DURACELLS & let us all know which is best. ( i say personally Duracells ) but, that's just my own personal opinion. I am sure someone can do these two test. As i really think this is my next added radio kit but, i need to be more certain.
Original batteries will last roughly 5 hours. Not done a test on other batteries. Probably would be better to have back up batteries and charge them on a battery charger.
Hi looking to get one of these scanners are they still up there for the price, can get one from Radioworld for £119 but for and extra £10 they can add selective programs. is this worth it or can you do it yourself via the pc thanks in advance cheers ray
You can programme it yourself via PC software or manually. I do have a video on how to do this. I used ARC125 to programme mine and it now costs £25. Manually programing the radio takes a while until you get used to it.
@@driverfilmsshortwavechannel Hi thanks for the quick reply, looks like I will be getting one then lol will look at your other vids on this subscribed!!
Are these going to work with the new 8.33 aviation radios?
From what Ive read on UK Scanning forum 8.33Khz steps is supported for frequencies between 108 - 137. This can be selected by going to the 108-137 range, pressing function, then 3 and using the knob to select it.
Hope this helps!
driverfilmsshortwave ..... thanks for that.
what about lack off narrow fm modulation ?
Not something I considered, there is nothing that uses narrow band that I listen to anyway
Vice versa in Poland , BUT ther is not difrent ver to buy then UBC125XLT :( I have mine form USA BC125AT with NFM
is this an analog radio?
I ask because I see it goes to 920 MHz
Yes it analogue only radio
@@driverfilmsshortwavechannel good to know I got confused with all those models, and besides I know that digital works on the 800 MHz and 400 MHz range so it was more confusing.
thank you :D
This scanner was made around when pretty much everything was analog. Uniden do have a digital rx radio as well as Whistler. These are expensive and Im not buying one as I only listen to Airband stuff anyway!
@@driverfilmsshortwavechannel I understand thanks for explaining.
just ordered the BCD325P2 because of its simplistic design, digital/analog radio + conventional radio 88 to 107 MHz.
I do have the Whistler TRX 1 which is a beast of a machine but the scanning unfortunately is slow for my taste, and it is very bulky. I think I will Sell it for a good price, for it is still a fantastic scanner no doubt about that :D.
I had also the SR30C until I understood there are Digital capable scanners. I really like the Uniden scanners for its fast scanning and not missing conversations between two people and its "Close Call" feature.
Any way have fun scanning keep safe
AceDriver53 :D
What is the range of this.
Depends how far you are from the transmission and what frequency you are listening to.
Trouble is iv come here to find out how to use it and just like the guys in the geek squad at work you've just done all that fiddling around without giving any knowledge 😤
How to use it is in another video, this is just a review
read the manual and learn its simple enough for us geeks
No autostore feature is the only con.
Can you hear boats and planes
Yes it covers Marine, Civil and Military Airband frequencies
Brilliant video review from this xtl bud please next time check your autofocus. ..........,
Thought It was set, its an old camera anyway
YewwwwwwwwBC lol
try and get it into focus....................poor video because of this.
