According to protestors present, what started as a peaceful protest in Kayamandi Stellenbosch against the abysmal situation for black people - evictions, no services, health of ex miners and worsening conditions under lockdown, while a minority in Stellenbosch lives lavishly - ended with violence as police and Stellenbosch security descended on activists and community members.
Those arrested were held overnight and received bail thereafter.
