Her parents really loved her and had no choice but to give her up. Looking at their actions and commitment to try to meet her later was touching. The parents showing up and waiting on the date they said on the bridge in the hopes of a chance to reunite with her.

They choose males over females because of cultural belief that male children will i think be the one responsible to take care of the rest of the family when parents grow old while the females will leave when they marry. To have another child in china i guess they will have to pay another $100k per extra child or they will be forced to give them up for adoption or in foster care in china and just visit them often.

Hazel Rachel she is an adult. She lives on her own in the US. She only knows English, is American, and stays in America for college last I saw. But she is in contact with both sets of parents and visits her Chinese parents. You have to relinquish your American citizenship to become a Chinese citizen, which I doubt she did as she will not be able to feed herself in China without knowing the language. It’s a really good story as both sets of parents get along, and she loves both sets. The birth parents were thanking her adoptive parents in the documentary. I actually think it was a good idea they told her about her birth parents after her teenage years. Teens can get rebellious and some run away from home. But as an independent adult she is able to handle the info better.

By appearance and demeanor, the China-grown sister looked much classier, several notches up the social-economical ladder. The American-raised one looked too "street" in comparison.

Literally the only difference is the Chinese raised sister has a lighter skin-tone - and likely because in China fair skin is valued and she's taken great measure to keep out of the sun, and in the west a lot of people want a tan and so the American raised sister didn't care to stay out of the sun. So basically you're saying that a tanned skintone makes her "street".

Your comment on the rating, which is more classier.n which is ' street' is not nice. no doubt that the adoptive parents did not tell her earlier, could have their own reasons, still this adoptive parents had loved and cared for her. Some credit should be given to them.
      I see
several comments that they are selfish. Why so one sided. How about the love n affection they had rendered in bringing her up.

You should look at the skin tones of the Chinese parents. Kati is adorable.

To her Chinese parents, please don't cry, you gave up your daughter. It was a stupid move. My parents were poor, but they had never give up any child.

HsingSun It was illegal to keep her, they had no choice. If they kept her, they would have been arrested and she would she ended up in an orphanage anyway. Research before you type.

Galaxy Cat you need to do some research. Her parents would have lost their jobs, their pensions, faced a huge fine, and perhaps their state provided housing but they would not have gone to jail. I have several Chinese friend who did just that rather than leave their children to be found. And before you argue with me about this I lived in China for seven years , adopted two, and volunteered at the Chinese orphanages when they were flooded with girls.

@@juliataylor8063 My son is Chinese, adopted. My step family are Asian. We all know about the one child policy and boys being more important in Chinese culture, although among the younger generation it is changing. There are many customs and traditions that are not nice and in many cases inhumane, thankfully, they will probably die out in the future. My step Asian family, still have the same thought process as they did when they left China and Burma with regards to skin color, and their ideal beauty, and are not at all hesitant to say it.
