The Spectacular Moment Volcano Erupts on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula

- After a month of increased seismic activity, this volcano on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula has finally erupted. A huge 3.5km long crack is spewing out lava, and is growing rapidly. A video captured the exact moment the volcano erupted.
Most residents of the local town of Grindavik have been evacuated. These huge cracks started appearing in their town a month ago.
The eruption has even turned the sky red 50km away in Iceland’s capital Reykjavik.
Scientists say this eruption is unlikely to cause similar air travel disruption as when a different volcano, Eyjafjallajokull, erupted in 2010.

Sad for the residents of Grindavik. I dont suppose they can ever return. Good job they were evacuated- it was well handled by the local authority, no panic.

@@bryaneberly3588 well to be fair, the chance of an eruption happening in ohio is astronomically close to 0. Not impossible, but exceedingly unlikely. So, if one did happen in Ohio, more than just you and your town would be terrified.

Depends on how much source material has accumulated and the resulting pressure to have it released. This event has been building for several months.
